Searching for survivors.
There a lots of bigger industries in terms of tax income. The relevance of the vg industry in Germany is basically zero.

If the video game industry in Germany had zero relevance then why does every video game developer that makes violent games jump through hoops and pussify their games so they can sell them in Germany? Obviously Germany has a pretty strong video game market.

I think what he meant is in term of revenue to the government not to the developers

Indeed. And don't forget that these restrictive laws are somewhat self-imposed by the industry.

Get informed, its our country and we should know whats going on. IF you don't like the things that are happening its your duty to understand why so you can be a part of the solution.

They shot themselves in the foot, to use an old metaphor. By placing a sign on Steam saying "Low Violence Version", not a warning btw but an all out "This is a low violence version", they've effectively killed their chances at getting past censors. The censor people, assuming they make an effort, will have a look at the game, at the advertising, etc. If they see that up there, they'll go "Huh.. Even the developer thinks this is a horribly violent game that has no place in this country.". At which point it gets censored, vicious cycle and all that.

People holding the crusades cited religion. People cut other peoples head off on live tv and cite religion. Which if you read the books they're referring to, are generally quite specific about what they do and do not cover.
Just because they say religion, doesn't mean they're telling the truth. Think of it like me going on another website and say TWI told me that the game is going to be censored because they don't like Aussies.
I'd be lying, would you agree? Would you say it's TWI's fault?

Of course the shooters party would object, they're finally making headway into getting guns taken down from the "OMG GUNS WILL KILL US ALL!!" stance taken by every other party in Aus, and then we start arguing that we really need to play these super violent video games. In the USA just recently, as in the past few days, there was a big shooting, dude killed a family. Think there's nine people dead? That doesn't help the Aus shooters party given that most people are easily swayed by emotional arguments.
An R18+ rating could technically allow Japanese loli games in. Child porn is legal for art, it's legal for cultural purposes. The next step to games isn't a great leap so other parties will object for that reasoning.

lol. Informed.. I know that the current political power in parliament is composed of a party and a few indeps who weren't voted in, because the majority government didn't get an all out majority so we should have had a reelection. We didn't, and thus our parliament is illegal. There, I'm informed, now what? Knowing something is stupid and being able to do something about it can be very different things.

So Tripwire... any news on whether us "Okkers" will get an uncensored RO2? (I'll be completely honest, were it not for this low violence thing I wouldn't have heard of the game period, so it can't be so bad XD)

Also, sucks to be German, but hey appparently you got Mortal Kombat and we didn't

The only thing that really bothers me about the Low violence version is if it is compatible to the Rest of World version in Multiplayer!

I really don

i'm pretty sure it's only a graphical tweak on your local PC.
meaning, if you have the normal version, it will play an animation of your body blowing up when hit by a tank shell.
if you have LV, it'll probably go
if{
hitbytankshell
then body_drops
}

i didn't know RO1 even had a low violence version till i read in the forums a week ago. i bought mine out of the country and i now live in australia.

bodies still splat and limbs tear apart in my game.

thats because RO1 wasnt classified to require any LV version, its only because Ro2 is a retail release, that the have to have it classified at all.
It will pass Ma15+ anyway, so this thread is pointless.

sheesh all that drama about some libs...either way get into voteing age and start vote for a sane party..or just move somehwere else...
You CANT influence them what makes you think that you can vote different people and something changes?
Or that they will abolish their censorship institutions and kick the people working there out on the street were they belong?

If voting had any effect I would be smoking legal weed and nobody would be in afghanistan right now.

The low violence didnt bother me that much in Ro1 the bad thing was that I first had uncut and then it became cut, so I knew exactly what was missing.

Also with this gifting thing I have the feeling Im getting on peoples nerves and maybe I will only ask them for help when the censorships is game breaking (like in left 4 dead) but not in a case like Ro2.

radix,
if you need someone to gift you the RoW version just contact me (or maybe rattus could gift it to you since he is from Austria too) and we can surely work something out. :)

Wish the AU rating board would get its act together. I wants to pre-order from Steams and if the game is cut I'll source a hard copy from the UK and get it shipped over I will.

Thanks mate,

I'm living just 1km away from the border to Austria and I think I'll go to buy it there at the MediaMarkt if they release it in shops at the same time with the online version.... I'll loose the beta and the other goodies .. but that's life :p

If they delay the shop release too much I'll take your offer.

Cheers,
radix

P.S. I've sent to Steam the request to cancel the pre-order... let see how it is developing

That's a dangerous route there, radu!

Most of the games on sale here are the cut german versions, happened to me when buying Saints Row 2, which I couldn't get a refund for.

But, with us being old chums of the same clan, gifting is no problem, I think :p

Sounds like a good business idea, you wouldn't mind sending some boxed copies around in germany, after you bought them uncut in austria? :p

Tax-evading by buying it from the USA = more money to TWI & cheaper for you ;P
