I dont know why, but if you read some books about tanks there is valuable point. Its low profile of tank - whitch means that tank is harder to hit. 
In red orchestra - ost front, its a myth. For example you can destroy german Stug by any russian tank in single AP shot easy from all directions.
Maybe maps are too small for tank combat ... who knows? Is low profile of tank myth or true point?
