I dont know why, but if you read some books about tanks there is valuable point. Its low profile of tank - whitch means that tank is harder to hit.
In red orchestra - ost front, its a myth. For example you can destroy german Stug by any russian tank in single AP shot easy from all directions.

Maybe maps are too small for tank combat ... who knows? Is low profile of tank myth or true point?

Its very true, and i use it alot when crewing a StuG with my unit mate. Shoot and scoot and thanks to our low profile at our engagement ranges of 1200 it generally is quite hard to see us. Also helps on cover, say if you want to hide behind a wall, we dont have a massive turret going "HAI SHOOT ME".

Yep, Mist is right.

But how about monstrous profile? What about a nice Easter Egg, the German Ratte-Tank. I scanned the web for it and I found out that there existed the idea or even a prototype(?) of a so called "monster" which was armed with a "Dora Gesch

I think not guns are too sharp. You can hit hiden stug very easy, no matter, distance or not.

The stug can pop up, take a shot, and scoot back down fairly easily. On longer range maps I've also been able to keep the stug mostly concealed behind a hill and fire. It's not going to be able to go head to head with any medium or heavy tank though. You have to use defilade in order to really be successful with it. Stugs were really useful in Kirovi Rog, where you could hide behind rubble, a bush, or hillside and nail enemies at 1200 meters or so. Even though that's horribly unrealistic at those distances :p

I think one of the other problems is also the way RO calculated the angle of impact. I think a glancing hit to the top did as much damage as a direct hit to the front of the hull. Hopefully we'll see that change, and get a more detailed penetration model, in HOS. Then the Stug's low profile will really matter.
