I have a 8600 GTS which has been OC'd substantially (it was built to be OC'd, so it is not an overheating issue) and an AMD 64 X2 2.4 Ghz processor. I can run CoH on high settings with out any problems with a drop in frame rate or lag. Red Orchestra, a much less graphically intensive game on the otherhand, has a very low frame rate. Before I upgraded, the game was fine, but now, it is like I am watching a slide show of myself playing the game. Obviously, this makes it rather hard to function. I was asking in game, and some guy said it had something to do with the dual core AMD, but I couldnt find any information about that online, so I though I would as in here.

thanks, but...

thanks, but...

thanks for the help, but you'll have to forgive me as I dont know how to set the affinity to 1 core, or what exactly that even means (I have an idea, but not sure). I am not compleatly ignorant when it comes to computers as I build them from the ground up, but as far as programing and software goes, well, I am pretty ignorant. If you would be so kind as to give me a bit more information about what all that your advice involves I would be very appretiative. For instance, would setting my processor's affinity to singe core adversely effect my performance in other applications?

You just do it through the task manager - ctrl - alt - del, find Red Orchestra (load it up first ofc), then right click, set affinity then unselect CPU1. Also worth checking no other programs are using CPU..I remember a bug with steam that meant it used up 50% CPU on dual core systems. Set steam to 1 core too to fix that problem.

Theres also a Dual Core Optimizer for amd systems you can try:

Thank you. That stuff helped alot, but the frame rate still isnt great. The game is easily playable now, just not as pretty as it once was.
