Hey, I've looked through your known errors thread and I've tried that Direct 3D instead of 9.0 and that still has no effect.
I get around 15fps-25fps and it's just unplayable, I've tried putting every advanced setting on Lowest etc, and it only has a minor effect (eg. 1fps increase or so)

It's really irritating as I can run most modern day games fairly well, for example CoD2.

Specs:

GeForce 6600 LE
Intel Celeron 2.5GHZ (Yeah, I know it sucks)
AI7 Motherboard
768MB RAM
Windows XP w/ SP2

Cheers to anyone who can help.

Same here actually, I've tryed putting everything on lowest with 800x600 resolution but that's only about 2-3 fps improvement from having everything on low. I mean, even in CoD2, it's a game with better graphics yet it ran better on my pc than RO does. Then again my PC does suck major time, it's just CoD2 ran better than this, doesn't make sense. Less polygons maybe?

Sorry Guys, I am also getting 20 frames or less in big firefights or when looking through the scope of a sniper rifle..normaly fps running between 25-50, and my system is: 3000+,800xl,1.5GB Ram..

Unfortunaly the unreal 2.5 Engine used more CPU then GPU Power; your CPU

its your cpu easy to check put all your graphics settings on high check your fps then set your graphics at low then if there is no change in your fps its your cpu not your graphix card. but if you really want to see how bad your cpu is when playing a game try running ro then in game press ctrl,alt,del at same time and when the window comes up press the preformance tab it will show you your page file and your cpu activity if your cpu is f.... it will be at 100% plus :( ps your frames in game doesnt matter a flying f... you can have x amount of frames wandering about a map what matters is when the map gets busy ie people running about or when everyone is fireing at something(usually you) thats when your fps drops ie if you are in a fire fight if your fps drops to the teens or less you get beaten to the drop (your dead) no question no matter how many tweaks you. so it all comes down to what your fps are when the map is busy not when you are looking at the sky and getting 1oo fps its when you are in a fire fight .pps your page file should be set to 1 and a half times your ram but that is another story lol

I have a very similar set up, a Pentium 4, 2.8 GHz (NO Hyperthreading though), ATI X800 XT 256mb, 2GB DDR 400MHz (running at 333MHz because no HT...), display at 1280 x 960, all my settings MAXED out except trilinear filtering and I average 50 to 90 fps most of the time.

It is probably not your cpu....

Now, I must say, I routinely defrag my hard drive once a month, eliminate nearly every (extra) startup program except Norton Antivirus and those that run my sound/graphics cards and mouse (I only have Norton and ATI Catalyst in my system tray), and I am constantly getting rid of temporary files with my utilities, I even degrag my registry every few weeks.

I am getting 20 or more fps on RO than on COD 2 where my settings average only medium/high.

I get 15-20 fps, and i'm happy with it. I just noticed that i had that low today. I was playing, and i checked, the games COMPLETELY playable for me, just sometimes a lil-not-too-smooth. But i can't argue, i have 512 ram. I'm still completely enjoying the game.

Try this tip, it really works.

Go into your steam file, then choose apps, go to your player name file and open it and go to Red Orchestra, open it and then open the RO config file. Scroll down till you find this

[Engine.GameEngine]
CacheSizeMegs=32
UseSound=True

If you have at least a gig or more of ram, change the CacheSizeMegs= to 256 and save the file.

The improvement you will see will be great, I can now run RO on 1280X1040 with all the bells and whistles cranked up to max, and she runs a smooth as greased owl ****.

I doubt any tweaking tip will really help people who have these kind of FPS problems. Theres plenty of little things that can be changed, that have apparently made huge changes on peoples games and frame rates, but I personally have tried absolutely everything and nothing pushes me above 18-19 FPS. I'd like to think its some sort of bug, as the mod played very smoothly with 32 people on pretty much any map (even in practice mod).

Just to let everyone know, i experience low fps. Culprit was drawing too much power off of a line going to video card. Try and limit the amount running to video card. This may help those who have problems accross the board game wise.
