what's the longest distance you killed a guy with an smg? i don't mean spray and pray kill. i mean you aimed, fired a burst and the guy fell dead. not three mags later, they got hit. people say they are too accurate, but i'm not getting kills at all that great a distance. i don't go out of my way to engage guys at long distance with the smg, though. never know when you're gonna run into a bolt gun and get owned!

I'm not saying I don't believe you, it just seems odd that the game allows for this kind of behaviour. It's way, way beyond the effective range.
On the other hand I'm no firearms expert so...

"Effective range" isn't a distance after which bullets plunge to the ground. It's the distance you can get kills reliably and effectively: beyond effective range luck is becoming a factor. The effective range of PPSh-41 is 150m, according to wikipedia.

230m on Ogledow with sustained fire. I was actually suppressing and it killed him. He must have caught a few rounds all over his body and just keeled over.

Yes, but doesn't the stopping power decrease significantly beyond the effective range? I've heard people saying the effective range is stretched already for every real world weapon.

Even at 200m with an SMG, the bullet's still a hunk of metal flying at a reasonable speed. It's probably going to hurt- especially if it breaks the skin and hits a blood vessel or organ or something. It might not kill you, but it will hurt.

But could it pierce one's chest and heart? That's helluva flesh to go through.

191m with a Papasha on Fallen Fighters. Aimed for headshot on a stationary target; one shot, one hit. Usually score headshots in similar circustances with the Papasha about 1-in-3 shots @ ~100m+. IME spray'n'pray at similar ranges weighs in at roughly 1-in-100 kill shots.

No. Still lethal at 1 mile.

9mm Parabellum, aka 9mm Luger in the States? Forgive me, but while it can certainly reach a mile firing at a 45-degree angle into the air, it's not going to be anywhere close to lethal at that range...
