I like the lockdown timer. It means that the game doesn't go on for 30 minutes even though the attackers aren't going to get past the second set of objectives. I think it could work a little better though, it should be harsh on the first objective but get more relaxed as the attackers progress. <Snip>

I also like the idea of the lockdown timer as I'm often on teams that refuse to attack and the lockdown forces them to get their act together and advance.

No it doesn't, and I suspect you've haven't actually played the game yet.

The lockdown timer does nothing at all to help herd the cats into the cap zone. If they can't figure out how to cap or that they should cap, having a clock counting down won't fix that. It, at best, just forces them to suicide charge.

Game has been out less than a week. Maybe we should give people more time to learn before we just say "screw it, gut half the mechanics some people who have been paying more attention/playing since beta get."

Some of the people saying "get rid of the lockdown timer" don't even get map or game types.

It needs to go, along with auto-balance and class-thieving. All three of these features are felt more as game-trashing bugs than 'features'. I am simply unable to fathom how any dedicated FPS player could ever have dreamed up such gimmicks. Yes, I can see the intent, and the intent was good, but the inability to see how they would actually play out in-game? Truly baffling.

Lockdown thing should be switchable in the server

+1.

I think Tripwire will give us this ability soon once they sort everything else out. I am also hoping they let us change the length of time the Lockout timer should be, that what it will make servers more 'unique' other than the custom maps etc. Some maps could have an extended Lockdown timer, like Apartments, whereas others like Fallen Fighters could have a slightly reduced timer or less reinforcements as per the server admins wishes.

I was playing a fantastic round as a Russian in Red October yesterday with a really good team, but lockdown destroyed it again. If the Germans have at least half a brain they can't lose in that map.

I dont mind lockdown, but I definitely think the players need to be aware of how much time they have left before the round ends. I know we have the timer up top, but gamers are SO lazy these days that they dont take the time to properly familiarize themselves with the UI.

That said, I think we need the equivalent of the mario bros hurry up song:

Super Mario Bros. Soundtrack: Hurry Up Overworld - YouTube

accompanied by some sort of VERY visible indicator to display for each minute that passes, similar to the one that displays when the commander forces respawn, artillery is called, etc.

Honestly this should be the work of a commander, but there is just no urgency to cap the objectives right now because it seems everyone thinks they have all the time in the world to try and shoot stuff.

The problem with lockdown, and winning / losing in general is that you never see it coming. Most of the times a round ends because of lockdown or the timer. A better system might be to award an attacking team with some extra time for each cap. And as said, give a warning when the timer is a few minutes from running out.

Also, yesterday we lost the last cap and the round (on october factory) because the enemy had 3 guys, against our 2, in the capzone  The game ended in the middle of a tense firefight, just like always in RO2. With just one more guy in the zone you shouldn't be able to capture at all IMO, or at least slow as hell.
