This thread is full of fail and tears.

From what I've read, people assume that without the timer everyone will just sit in the spawn, or the game will become a 30 minute pointless torture fest until the normal timer ends.

Which is crap, since nobody sits in the spawn long enough to group up as it is. It's all the-other-side-of-the-map-has-cake on most maps with Rambo's everywhere. And I'd agree with the game being too long while unbalanced if there were 1500 reinforcements per side. There's not, and the losing side will blow through theirs quick enough without a out of place timer involved.

To me Lockdown kills the old RO experience I had when playing RO1. I'd rather deal with campers and go out hunting for them than just rushing a map. I'd even be happy if Tripwire made it server side option to disable it and hopefully they will.

Why would "realistic" game like this force people to rush anywhere? War takes time, so give us time to plan and move carefully. Who cares if people camp and don't attack, they will get killed eventually and run out of reinforcement. There is absolutely nothing wrong with around that takes a while to win/lose.

That's the reason for lockdown, if for nothing else. No one should have to sit through that many deaths that they can do nothing about except leave the server.

what do you mean?

is that a bug?

There are new lockdowns for each set of objectives. So I think the "without lockdown people will stay in spawn"-argument is silly because even halfway into a map you will get another lockdown timer... and another...

Attacking side can advance objective by objective but as soon as the defenders holds their line for a few minutes the timer will start usually. This means there are just one option for the attackers - RUSH!

If lockdown only concerned the first (and maybe second) objective I think we would not have half as many complaints. But when you lose because of lockdown on the "E" objective its just stupid imho.

To be honest.

Lockdown for me is like a demo of full version.
There were some games back in the day, where demos offered you a limited time of gameplay of some games, usually limited by a timer.

This worked almost exactly like this one, it was fun killer as it mostly cut the game in the most interesting moments.

Lockdown HAS to go away!
It's as gamebreaking as MKb avaible for anyone.

True, but when there's two minutes left on the countdown, and we're being shot at by spawn-campers, it feels like we have to charge into almost certain death and hope, instead of trying something clever, because will be slower.

Have lockdown for the first 2 objectives or have it as an option for the attacking commander to motivate his team.

Or as suggested, the lockdown timer freezes when your team or theirs is actually capturing a point. That could EASILY add a minute or more to the lockdown timer based on people's seriousness about taking the objective.

As far as I am concerned this has to go as it more than anything (even the mk42b!) except perhaps the ability to choose attachments for your gun is ruining the game for me and most other people I speak to in game.

It tries to solve a problem that wasn't as far as I was concerned a major detraction in RO1 and I think it does it in a very poor and ham fisted way.

DO NOT WANT. Essentially. :IS2:

Pick any pub server now and watch them all camp as the lockdown timer ticks away to nothing. Campers will camp no matter what you put in the game.

Lockdown only gets in the way imho!

Think I agree with the poster on page one..It can stay BUT only for the first CAP so attackers at least start an attack then it has to dissapear..

Lockdown is a good mechanic. It needs to be fine-tuned, the cap times should be made longer (I'd be taking baby steps fine-tuning here, starting with 5 minutes in place of the current 4). It should be valid for the first 2 sets of caps (it doesn't - obviously - work for the last cap currently, we just need to apply the same logic for earlier caps, apart from the first 2 sets) OR the timer freezes when a zone is being contested.

That right there would make me happy.

I agree.. most people on our server camp even though the damn lockdown timer is up!

Campers will always be campers..... just let us play the way we did in RO1. So what if it takes forever, maybe that's what it takes for the campers to realize they need to move their butts!

I wanna here things like "when is this map gonna end?" and "why are we still on this map?" So we can tell them exactly why... because they need to get their butts moving that's why :D

Another facet of lockdown, discussed by Ramm in his presentations, I believe, is that capturing an objective rewarded the attackers - but there was a disparity, as the defenders were never rewarded for putting up a steadfast defence.

Thus, it is now possible to reward good defenders (or punish bad attackers, as the case may be). Either way, it is a sound idea, which only needs to be carefully calibrated.

yeah, it's well intended, but not a good feature. Sometimes you need to just take it slow and methodically pick off defenders, rather than an all out bum rush because you only have 2:00 left. It really makes it too easy for a bad defense to hold up because you need to rush your attacks due to time.

Edit: Good defenders are always rewarded. Even if you are pushed back to your final point; if you did things right the other team will be just about out of time and reenforcments. a bad defense, for example would be having 9:00 whole min. to defend langer with 75% left on the russian side.

How about we compromise and leave lockdown in place, but make it last 15 minutes.

Okay, 99, but you're talking about the details - the essence is spot-on, in my opinion. 5 minutes, or 15 - these are the things that we'll be in a position to say something more about once people settle into the maps more and we're able to gauge it accurately.
