I've encountered many players that take the Machine Gunner class and only use it to charge up to the enemy and hip-fire, and I was wondering if this is a common occurrence. I personally think it should be like is was in RO1, when you had to deploy to fire from the hip and moved slower.

In RO:OST you can shoot the mg34 from the hip. Really useful for cleaning the tower in Odessa xD

impossible for that kind of play (the old Ro1 style) to be effective in RO2. everyones got enough firepower that the machine gunner is a very easy target when they set up.

that and the maps have no choke points and all the objs are in buildings.

I would have liked to have seen gun weight implemented into the game. (along with real weapon hit detection...as in your pole vault...I mean mosin nagant w/ bayo hitting a wall would slow you down)

The gun weight would make you slightly slower at rotating and bringing up sights. I haven't noticed anything in game to suggest this is a current feature.

Last night I took a shot at a machine gunner exiting a building. Lucky for him I am terrible with bolt action rifles, and when he swung around to aim at me and squeezed the trigger while strafing to the left I was AWESTRUCK by how awesome he looked. Straight up Terminator style. I just stood there watching with my jaw at the floor, didn't even work the bolt, I just stood there and got mowed down (pressumably only knee-shots to further cement the T2 imagery).

I don't think there is anything seriously wrong with MG hip firing as it is, but it should be complemented with raised sights without using the bipods. Overall I would like to see weapons getting readied a little bit slower after moving, it would eliminate much of the superhuman run & gun. I'm not just talking MGs though, I'd like to see it applied to all weapons, so it is outside the scope of this thread.

It was written in the book for use of the MG34 that hip firing it is something you're trained to do in certain situations, there is an HCTerrorist video and at about 2 minutes an MG34 is hip fired next to a StuG but I cant find the video. If I find it I will post it.

Well I've noticed that turning with and MG-34 (or DP for thet matter) is slower and you do have less stamina, and you can't even bring up the ironsights without being deployed. With the incredibly reduced accuracy I don't think MG hip firing is a problem.

I uploaded this one months ago when peolpe argued about it

The main things I took away from that is that

a) It should be horribly inaccurate - that thing was jumping all over the place as he fired it.

b) Friendly suppression - for those who say that a friendly shooting by your head shouldn't suppress you just look at those 2 guys in front of the MG-34 as he started shooting. They nearly shat themselves.

I think a good compromise would be that you need to stop moving, and be still for maybe half a second before you can fire without insane recoil. This would simulate getting into that funky "sturm" stance or whatever.

If you fire right away or while moving, I would like to see recoil go crazy.

Actually, I didn't see any inaccuracy there. He was spraying it, likely trying to suppress upper levels of the building, locking the enemies in position. When he wasn't moving the gun purposefully, it was pretty darn straight. Barely moved.

Simply make it like in RO:OST but make getting in stance more fluid and faster.

from 2 mins

Never watched the second vid but the first one proves nothing. That guy's a beefcake and obviously eats lots of beef. Could the average soldier in Stalingrad, who's had 2 hours sleep in the last 48 (if he's lucky) and is getting 100 grams of bread per day (if he's lucky) run around and fight in combat, and still fire form the hip or even from the iron sight, standing up?

I don't think you should have to deploy, but definitely move slower with less stamina. An mg 34 weighed over 40lbs, so you didn't whip it around.

It's slow enough already mate, you can run like 5m and then your out of breath. Makes me wonder don't you guys have bigger problems in game than few MG gunners firing from hip, I could name few...

I had basic field training with the MG42 in the Norwegian army.
The MG we used was identical to the WW2 version except it used 7,62 rounds instead of the original 7,98

Our Sgt did exactly the same as in the Youtube clip, firing from the hip and shoulder.
It was awesome to watch him cut down a small forest
So we should be able to move around and hip fire with the MG42 too.
However when its on full auto you probably wouldn't be able to swing it around in full circles that easily.
But this is already coded into the game so it would just need some adjustments.

RO2 is great as it is.. Mods will take care of wishes like this and i'm looking forward to it.
Not forgetting a much more effective suppresion effect witch is THE most important thing I miss from DH.
