There was a hand to hand thread a while ago and I think we agreed it would be completely ridiculous to have bare handed fighting
I've practiced Karate myself for a few years but i'd be grabbing the nearest gun if an outbreak did actually happen, **** hitting them in the face
Katana is fine though, so I wonder what TW will actually do with the perk
Also side note, shurikens were used to wound and distract, not to kill. They'd be equally useless

Throwing knife, whatever.

9mm bullets don't explode heads, btw.

Let me jump to multiple conclusions on game-design that we don't quite know enough about first before you dash my morbid dreams, please.
huh? ._.

also hand-to-hand doesn't need to be just with your bloody flesh mittens you call 'hands'. It can be about using brass knuckles/claws/boxing gloves/power fists/tazer knuckles, etc.

First of all, Martial Arts has weapons in it.
Second, there is a weapons category that I thought was the bow and crossbow section but its actually named projectiles.

The zerk being about tanking while exploding heads snf the weeaboo class being about creating tornados of gibs while parrying the crap out of everything is perfectly fine.

melee bad

No, your opinion is bad. Which is really hard to do, considering they're all subjective constructs. Two and half (demo) close range death classes, one tanky and one blobby/zoney are pretty much exactly what this game needs.

On later maps and later difficulties, you'll need someone to clear transition areas without destroying every light and door around you, which we already can surmise by the amount of absurd explosions that demo will do.

I also find the cries of "abloobloohoo no melee" in a game where the enemies bludgeon you to splattery gibs with alarming regularity rather ironic.

This sounds much like once upon a time when a certain forum called for a certain chainsaw class to be removed because it was @!^*#@*^$*@ing terrible and yet, here today, chainsaw class guy not only stayed in the game, but became the instrument by which HoE was first conquered and the pattern of winning learned.

I for one await our anime weapon wielding overlords and their completely over the top and broken parrying skills will be welcomed in our servers, as long as I don't have to hear about which giant eyed female is your digital waifu with strange rubbing noises in the background over chat.

How could you possibly want this or even think that is a possibility?

Yes, half of it Bruce Lee, the other have a little philosophy I developed myself.

Okay now, about the martial arts thing. I know martial arts include weapons. Jeet Kune Do revolves around everything that is possible and practical but doesn't emphasize weapons specifically.

All in all, yes, punching a Fleshpound is stupid and should be avoided (obviously) but I just wish I could use my fist in anyway to combat the Zeds. Maybe some apocalypse type fist weapons and why call the class "Martial Artist" if they're just using swords and other melee weapons? Not something else more fitted for the weapons used?

Because for what ever reason the programmer wanted to type martial artist as the class instead of Dragon... that's why.

I'm expecting a fast, jumpy melee-focused character with a soft ranged edge, like throwing weapons that come out as fast as grenades do before switching back to melee.

I could also see the option for alternative melee styles, rather than pure and fast damage dealing, you could have stuff that focuses on tripping and stunning, like chain weapons, or some variety of spear or staff.

It's also possible that the true form of the combo system is being withheld for the Martial Artist.

That said, I don't believe we'll be seeing hand to hand fighting, unless it's the expression of some sort of purchaseable weapon like a fist dagger. The thing is, every form of actual offense the Martial Artist can bring should be technically purchaseable off class by someone else, unless they are designing him to break the traditional patterns of Killing Floor. If we do see Movie Kung Fu, then it has to be because someone bought a weapon that let them do Movie Kung Fu, like a mental implant, but I don't think that's the type of theme they want to go with.

So, yea, I expect traditional, low tech weaponry with a character built to go over, under, and around enemies instead of through them, like a Berzerker.

TWI seems to be making new classes by splitting the old ones up. I think this was brought upon by the increasing amount of difficult to classify weapons in KF1. This is evident in the splitting up of the sharpshooter into the gunslinger and the sniper/marksman. The logical result will be that berserker will use bladed or niche weapons like the VLAD and the bowsaw, and weapons like that which are weird and deadly, but the martial artist will use pure melee weapons like the katana, greatswords, or his fists. I think this makes more sense because I'm sure people who are into martial arts will agree that a martial art isn't just a way of fighting with your fists. Its any kind of organized method of individual combat, and I wouldn't really describe the berserker as "organized".

Yeah I think this perk is more of a dedicated melee class then specifically a hand-to-hand combat kinda thing.

Exactly, theres just no way they would do a hand-to-hand combat perk because that would seem way too silly for this game. While humour has always been part of Killing Floor, there are some things that just go way too far and this would be one of them.

I don't understand, how is using katanas and Krovel different from using claws and such? They're both extremely silly ideas, especially in a setting like this where melee should NEVER EVER BE AN OPTION WHATSOEVER. We're talking about human-like-freaks that have no issue with biting your limbs off (considering how strong the human mouth can be, easily biting the fingers off like carrots). Not only that, but these freaks were supposed to be bred to be like 'super soldiers', so it just makes the whole melee class even sillier. Again, hand-to-hand doesn't mean using completely unarmed attacks, it just means the melee distance is slightly closer than usual.
