I have tested this when RO2 just coming out. It has version 1 or 2. Server is Debian based. I but WinXP with KVM. After days i figured best what i got is limited players to 50. Then (local area players) have ~70 ping. After this player limit it run up to ~150 at 64 players and there start lagging. Don't know if this is fixed in this days, but i figured that when server is setup to 64 players it still allowed to join and after player is joined server kick it out and say "server is full". Best what i seen my server has 77/64 players and i think that make lag for player inside the game.

Now we roll out server and but Windows 7 on it.
Server rolling smootly now.

One ro2 server take that one core of our server and ~1g of ram
You can but that four ro2 servers in one quad core prosessor.

Our server is i7 2600k Sandybridge with 16Gb of ram

Yea could we have an update from Tripwire please. I just want to know if it's still being considered or not. I'm not specifically asking for an ETA.

As if it's not being considered a group of us might rent a windows box... otherwise I'll wait to run a server on my linux box :)

Same as everyone else. A group of us have a linux box which we run games on, we would really like to use our current box instead of having to get another windows one.

Linux Binaries for Australia too

Linux Binaries for Australia too

+1

Yep, I'm hanging out for Linux Binaries too!

Linux is the most stable platform for any form of server.

Efforts must be made to make linux binaries for this game.

:D I am happy to say that if UT3 linux server binaries exist, it isn't
isn't an impossibility for RO2 to have them too.

It is a matter of how quickly TWI can get around to it, and how quickly they can package and distribute it via Steam.

My worry is if they do decide to develop the linux binaries that it will be too late thus making it hard for the new servers to gain regular visitors!

I would be interested in knowing how many of the smaller slot servers are linux running a windows VPS.

I have a server that is not public and used for clan scrims that is a windows VSP on a linux box and it runs up to 26 people before crapping out.

My main server is on a windows server but I know I could provide my people with a better service if I could run linux bins.

Maybe its a case of TWI wanting to iron out all the game bugs before making linux bins. I suppose if they had both Windows and Linux then every time they made a fix it would need to be applied to both. So having just Windows would make that job easier. It would be good just to get a confirmation on that from TWI if that was the case.

Still nothing... I'm amazed that TWI are being so lazy as to not take the 15 minutes it would take to get us a rough idea of what may or may not happen. Really impressive attitude, TWI :/
