I would like to suggest that there be a few things to stop beginners being kicked from games and veterans getting annoyed.

When I host a dedi server or a listen server a small variable to control the entry level. For example, if I am hosting on Hell on Earth I would set the variable to 5+ meaning only level 5 and 6 could join.

That's all it would take to enable everyone to have a much better time during peak new player times.

An option to kick in the lobby would also be nice for the same reason.

This has probably been brought up before but I play a lot more of the game with randoms than I used to so it's become more obvious to me.

This would be a worthy addition to the game. I often find lower level peeps join a hardened suicidal game, get killed, leave the game - therefore upsetting the wave balance for everyone playing. It would be nice to set a level of our desire for games. :)

Agreed.

@Centy
It introduces a barrier to entry for new players. Granted it is annoying when a low level player joins and dies, but I've seen poor players that are level 6 and great players who are level 2. There are tons of other decent ways to deal with the problem of new players joining hard difficulties, a few of which already exist

I'm agreeing with the idea Colt put forward in this thread, and i have agreed with it all the times it was posted.

Such a simple-seeming change that makes a world of diffference; in the right direction.

Centy,

I have found no matter what correct idea is put out on the web there are always those that do not get it. Attempting to pull them from their delusions is a waste of time. There are always some that have to assert their resistence to change or be devil's advocate or have to oppose no matter what.

This is why I thought a whitelisted server side mod with the option to define minimum perk level and the option to limit what wave is the cutoff to join, solves problems. If an admin wants low level perks joining on their server they can. If an admin wants people joining in wave 10 they can.

Those of us that want the choice to limit low perks from joining and limit late wave joiners would have the choice to make the game more pleasant for everyone.

I agree at a minimum new games could be sold with the default server browser set to normal difficulty to solve a lot of the problem.

as much as I dislike carrying newbs, I am against servers being able to set level restrictions.

I tried to join a server in brink and it spat back that I was too high in level ( after playing for some 4 hours...). WTFH?! There arent that many people playing that game, so you've got a pick of a handfull of servers with people and good pings, and it gets limited further?

Guaranteed thought that PVP and Co-op are different animals, and its for that reason that I'm not completely against it. ( Yes I just contradicted myself, deal with it ). In all honesty so many server admins already boot for low level usage that it would save people time if the server notified them of a level cap and that they had no perks at or above, or that they could only use perks xyz. Otherwise that new player comes in part of the way through a wave, patiently waits 20 mins, then gets kicked for a low level perk. Great way to say welcome here to a new player ....:rolleyes:

I think it should be a server option, tbh. I mean, when I play with a mix of friends that have high-levels and low-levels, we all go on a hard server. It creates a balanced kind of challenge for us all to enjoy. It'd be a shame to have that locked out forever, because both level 6 and level 0 players aren't recommended for hard mode.

Isn't that what the honor system is for? You can supposedly set the honor required for the server higher and that should filter out the newer players a bit.

If it is working, I don't think any servers are using it.

There are some issues with that idea that should be answered first:

* What if somebody is LVL6 SS and has the rest of perks at 2 -3? (very common actually) - he could switch to SS, connect and then switch again to low level perk. Or perhaps should filter read player's average level in all perks? Then somebody who has everything but the firebug (let's say he hates this class) on LVL6 couldn't play on HoE etc.

* There are people who reset their stats (like for example me) and can handle themselves on suicidal with LVL2 berserker or medic just fine.

* Should be there an option to set max level joining as well? there are lots of LVL6's who ruin the game for newbies, just fragwhoring on normal or hard difficultly.

I get what a lot of people are saying and I can see there may be downsides and certainly it might effect some but I still think overall having the option, not turned on by default, in the listen server options would be good.

I am also totally for having the server browser being set to normal as standard for new players.

This is for Killing Floor not RO2 :)

grrrr.

My last 30 minutes in pseudo code.

double rage =0;

KillingFloor.start();

while( rage <= 9000 )
{
rage += slow server load while searching for hard/sui/hoe server;
server.connect();
if(all other players.level() < 1 )
{
rage = rage*2;
server.disconnect();
}

if(rage >= 9000)
{
Forums.rage.Ragepost fuuu = new RagePost();
fuu.configure(SPECIAL_PSEUDO_CODE);
fuu.writeRagePost();
}

}

KillingFloor.exit(0);

You need to add a forth option to the Poll, it should be "We need this".

Seriously, I've lost more than I could possibly remember on Suicidal/HoE servers without the kick function because of random idiots that joined with a low leveled perk for the difficulty.
We infact need this so newer players and trolls don't ruin peoples enjoyment.

This has been suggested a ton of times and TWI has not implemented it. I also think it is a terrible idea.
^ This. Nearly every event and free weekend this crops up. As I mentioned else where it's better to educate then exclude.

that and the game should start with the difficulty dropdown set to normal or beginner NOT all difficulties. That would do the most to stop random people joining a harder game, the fact is they dont know...
This this this this. Or the pop up option. I am completely against out right baring of perk levels. What comes next? You've not played x amount of hours so you can't play? You haven't reached the pseudo 7th level on all perks so you can't play?

Pass wording a server is different before anyone mentions that. The same difference between a private clubhouse and a you have to be this tall to ride signs.

Like Ive said in MANY other threads, something like this is greatly needed and would benefit both sides.

I really hope TW will give us a comment regarding this because its stopping all so called veterans from enjoying the game during these events, and I doubt the newcomers like being kicked for reasons they might not understand.

The problem I see with this is that some people have inconsistent levels. For example, I am level 5 Shapshooter and Medic, level 4 Commando and Support, and then level 2 Firebug and Zerker. Would the filter look at your highest level perk? Or would they all have to be a minimum level? I would like the option, but I'm not sure how it would work exactly.
