The historical accuracy is debatable on many levels.

I think your idea is good but why not having the rare weapons? Just because they were not standard issue?

The idea about this mode is to get battles a bit closer to what the average soldier would have seen. So more regular weapons and amounts.

Yeah, we seriously need more riflemen. Using a bolt action at the moment is nothing but a handicap when you have such easy access to semi autos. A big part of the RO1 feel was the whole rifleman grunt thing.


I totally agree - right now is just every f'ing class gets the MKB or AVT - its just silly and kills the fun for me
I mean come on - Assault, Squad leader, Elite Riflemen and Commander get the MKB/AVT???

Only elite Riflemen should be able to get those Assault rifles...

What about you have a limited amount of 1 or 2 rare weapon per game? The commander chooses to issue it to a player anytime he finds suitable and if this player dies thats it.

I have no issues with the rare weaponry as long as its limited but I think for the suggested realism setting they wouldn't fit in.

I would love this. Chances are im not gonna be playing this game much until such a mod ( yes a mod, I doubt twi will implement this).

I find it quite sad how we have to work to add authenticity to a ro game. Its like if the community was left to add the realism in arma 2...

It was kind of the reason I bought this game...

Sanger, we're already going to be making this as this is what we had for Ostfront during trainings and matches.

You shouldn't have to be in a realism unit to play a realism mode. Public matches will never have the same level of teamwork as clan matches, but that doesn't mean everyone should run around with superweapons.

This is my idea from my thread about a more realistic dispersal of weapons

"I know there has been a couple of these threads already. But I also wanted to put forward my proposal into the crowded market. So apologies to the others. It's a lot to read but please do.

I have also included Alternative Native Class names. For when/if? we ever get 'native voices' like said. Current class names in order and their proposed changes: Commander, Squad Leader, Elite Rifleman, Elite Rifleman, Marksman, Machine Gunner, Assault, Anti-Tank, Engineer. With the addition of a new Class for access to the rare weaponry. Veteran unlocks are italicized

These changes may be unpopular with some people who are not concerned about Historical accuracy in these details, which is fine, in 'Relaxed Realism' mode the game can stay as it is.

It's sad that we even have to have a poll on such a subject when ROOST took so many steps in the right direction. Hopefully the mods get it right if TWI doesn't.

I do hope that something like this becomes a reality, or at least something close to a mode where you don't have unlocks. And people use somewhat historic weapon loadouts and amounts. I wouldn't mind if there was still one Mkb42.

I think the poll speaks that there is a lot of desire for such a realism setting on these forums.

I wonder who are the 3 who voted against it but it shouldnt matter they didnt even bother posting their lame opinion. I just hope this whole class mess is a slip up in RO2's history.

I too would love such a mod.

But the pace has to be slower to make it work. Stalingrad was not fought in hours, it took a lot more than that.

Make NCOs/Officers a precious, tide changing asset, so the snipers on both sides can actually do what they do best.

Probably moveable static MGs would be a nice touch, that way there could be the MG42, without an unlock. Or make an MG team, one alone can not use it (MG42 gunner, ammo bearer, tripod bearer, same with the Maxim MG, no tripod needed because many Maxims had wheels).

Get rid of the scoped G41, there was no such thing. The 1.5x scope was replaced by snipers because of its insufficient maginification. It should either be the first scope for a sniper being replaced by the Zielvier and later Zielsechs, or scrap the 1.5x completely.

Add more weapon related stuff, like barrel mirage (like the MG, without the smoke but blurred vision above the barrel), add jams to the guns to reflect cold weather jamming with the well used K98k/MP40 (jam chance reduces with better condition of the rifle)

add the knife as a weapon, it was well used in WW2 by both sides (if you don't want e-tools to make an appearance), either mounted as a bayonet or as a seperate weapon.

get rid of the squad leader spawn, there should be some kind of resupply point he has to move to to make his squad rejoin

get rid of all death messages, distance- and friendly indicators...the map has to go aswell, only NCOs and Officers had proper maps.

Make the map an item, if you look on the map, you hold it in your hands


Well, that's all I can come up with at the moment.

About the sway I'm not sure... frankly I haven't run a full sprint with a WW2 bolt action rifle and fired it and I have zero military training so I can't comment on that. I don't see how anyone can comment on it really without having gone through military training. Anything else is just speculation.

The rest sounds good though... I'd make the class selection like this for a 64 player server (just cut in half for 32):

1 commander (choice of SMG or semi)
2 SLs with SMG
2 SLs with semi
4 SMGs
4 LMGs
1 Marksman
18 Bolts

And perhaps they could have some maps where there were more bolts on the field to represent a typical rifle company in which case it could look more like this:

1 commander (choice of SMG or semi)
2 SLs with SMG
2 SLs with semi
4 LMGs
1 Marksman
22 Bolts


Don't need a special class for semi-autos they were so rare... allowing max of 3 is really already pushing it, but fine for gameplay purposes IMO.

If you've got things like pioneers or what not just take out a couple bolts to make room.

Frankly I think the number of SMGs currently is pretty realistic I mean they gave more of these weapons to assault units and you can bet that guys were picking them off the dead left and right.

It's the number of semis that bothers me more tbh.

Also of course no MKB42 or AVT-40 whatsoever.

I'd also like to see tanks having a longer respawn. It's kinda lame to to go a lot of work to kill a tank and instantly have it coming back on the field within 20 seconds.

And yes no kill messages at all would be lovely. Though I think that's already a server side option. Still would nice to have it included in this mode by default.

Can server admins disable certain unlocks? If so someone should make a CFG asap.

It would be so easy.

Remove semi-auto rifles (including the elite rifleman class)

PPSh drum mag and bayonet default on bolts, remove all other "attachment" upgrades

Remove C96 from axis, remove nagant revolver for allies

Restrict assault to 2 slots.

That should do it IMO. Then you got 6 SMGs at the most (commander, 3x SL and 2 assault), and then EVERYTHING else is either bolt rifles or machine guns.

I have an idea like maybe when you spawn you can choose what equipment you want to carry maybe i want stick mags for ppsh in this map but in an other map i want drums and stuff like that
