KF Latency problems

Hey all,

Recently, an issue developed on my PC where every single server I tried to join had a ridiculous latency (200++). Every single one, even the ones I've been playing on for ages. Every other multiplayer game I threw at it handled it fine, and I had a normal latency (40). The issue only exists in KF.

So, I decided to take my PC to my mate's house (note that his internet is slightly slower than mine, and he's using a different ISP to me), and voila, my ping was back to a normal amount!

So far, I've tried the following to fix the issue:
-Verify cache
-Delete all those files that are advised to be deleted (blob, system etc)
-Reinstalled KF
-Reinstalled Steam

Now, I wanted to try maybe forward the ports, but isn't that only if you want to actually set up a server?

Any help on the issue would be appreciated.

The problem doesn't occur with other games and it doesn't occur with another internet connection ?

First thing that comes to mind is a wonky antivirus that was accidentally set with a firewall/qos rule that only applies to your home connection.

Other than that, before you reinstalled the game, just make sure C:\Program files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\killingfloor\System is gone, usually you can just delete that folder and validate the game files in Killingfloor properties in your steam library.

If that was done right and doesn't work, try resetting every of your antivirus parameters. Also while in-game, in settings you can set your client's netspeed, if it's not already at Dynamic netspeed try that, if it is then try something more representative of your actual connection speed.

Hey mmnicolas, cheers for the speedy reply.

No, the issue does not persist in any other game, and as far as I know, any other connection other than mine.

I disabled both my firewall and antivirus, with no effect on KF latency.

Deleting System and verifying the integrity cache also has no effect.

Setting my internet speed to dynamic has no effect, as well as manually modifying the speed settings.

Maybe your router has a say in things happening on a specific port, there can't be a dozen causes for this, there is something between your router and software managing your connection.

If every software that manages your connection was reset and resetting your router doesn't fix it, I can't see what will. As far as your PC is concerned, this will be like when you hooked up to your neighbors ISP.

Try different servers.

Pretty much all Servers are having bad latency. I live in South-East Asia and I've only got a handful of servers to choose from, and there are a few where the ping is ~120, and the rest are 250+

Have you tried any other computers or OS with that internet?

Haven't tried that one yet, I'll do that and get back to you

Write down all the IPs of those servers and do a tracert to them individually. Post the results.

EDIT: I figured out how to do a tracert, however I don't know what exactly you want me to post here. Instead I'll just link you to the website through which I did it.

Server 1

That's the only server I really ever went to, as it's literally the only one in SEA.

You need to do the tracert from your computer. Post all of the results it shows you. Should be multiple hops.

Code:
  1 2 ms 1 ms 1 ms 254.1.168.192.in-addr.arpa [192.168.1.254]
  2 44 ms 37 ms 38 ms 1.subnet125-162-128.speedy.telkom.net.id [125.16
2.128.1]
  3 41 ms 49 ms 38 ms 49.15.160.125.in-addr.arpa [125.160.15.49]
  4 37 ms 38 ms 38 ms 61.94.115.221
  5 71 ms 71 ms 71 ms 98.191.240.180.in-addr.arpa [180.240.191.98]
  6 82 ms 67 ms 67 ms 97.191.240.180.in-addr.arpa [180.240.191.97]
