Now here is a conundrum I have encountered.

If your squad has died, and you are a firebug, how do you survive properly, despite large hordes of zeds? Especially when husks get involved and your low on ammo. I have seen other perks survive teamless on hard and even suicidal, but never a firebug.

With larger zeds and husks chasing you down, how can you survive?

Alot of firebugs use a katana as a second weapon or dual handcannons. Just kite around like you would as any other perk with a katana. Kills small guys with katana and shoot short bursts of fire to conserve ammo depending on the amount of specimen your up against.

Depends on the level. Wave 6 or lower, I'd keep the flamer. Husks aren't a problem. Lvl 6 flamer can't be hurt by husk unless physically attacked. So just keep hosing the other specimens down and don't let the husk get close. If you have a clear shot at the husk, use the pistol. Never use the flamer on husk.

Wave 7, I'd keep kiting until an FP showed up. Drop multiple grenades and hose the hell out of him till he drops. If another FP is due later in the wave, I'd kite with the pistol and look for weapons. Once the next FP shows, hose him until he drops.

No matter the wave, if the flamer is low on ammo and a tier 3 or 4 weapon is right there, run the flamer out and swap weapons.

Off-topic nonsense, but the exact moment I opened this thread, my iTunes queued up "Through the Fire and Flames" by Dragonforce.

This thread is now sacred.

The FP is the biggest issue. I have a hard time dealing with the flamethrower. I would suggest dropping whatever you have for a T3 weapon after setting it on fire and then killing it before using grenades to reclaim your flamethrower.

Its possible, provided u have the room to kite and dont get surrounded, it should be pretty easy. The only threat i see would be FPs, cuz even if u don't attack it, it WILL rage, over a certain period of time.

I have survived situations like these with flamers, everything below scrake and fps re pretty standard, tap and let em burn, if ya get in a "oh-sh*t" situation, obviously, hose it down and reposition yourself. (scrakes are take-able, but if there's a ****load of zeds left, like over a 100, its probably wise to leave them for last, don't wana risk raging them then hosing them down when they rage/aggro ya and be left empty when there's still a crap load of zeds left)

For fps, for obvious reasons, drop the flamer.
By that round, your teammates should have some decent weps, at the very least an xbow . If there are no xbow users or EBRs, then your best bet is flamenade + hosedown combo OR a combination of both+any other weap u can pick up
For eg. a hunting shotgun right beside ya, throw ya nades + hose it down, when it comes close, drop the flamer, pick the shotty and pray that the shotty blasts it away. Just like Compass said above me.

How are husks a problem? they do no damage at all at lvl6, unless of course you're close enough to it, to actually get melee'd. They're jus annoying with those fireballs, shakes ya screen too much.

Suicide is rough because of the increased zed run speed.

Hard isn't much of an issue though. Carry a katana as a secondary. It will dispatch scrakes and husks easily.

FPs are a problem for anyone except SS and Demo (with pipes). I'll sometimes have pipes with me late game as Firebug but not usually as it kinda overloads your 4 key and I switch a lot between katana/thrower.

So assuming just a thrower vs FP the best you can do is:
Set him on fire, try to get as much burst in as you can without raging.
Then **break line of sight**
I've not seen them rage from being on fire alone. They'll rage if you squirt them while they are on fire, but not from burning alone.
They will rage after a set time **if they can see you**.

So kite them on fire with broken line of sight. When things go bad (they will...kiting on fire is very difficult) then try to have a full canister when it happens. Dump the canister on him then switch to katana. He's in your face at this point and you'll be dead before you can reload the thrower.

Summary: firebugs are quite survivable solo. Their only weakness is the same weakness that pretty much everyone has.

A note I would make, as someone who is only level 3 Firebug (Don't much enjoy it for some reason), I find that ammo is not an issue if you buy extra flamethrowers and throw them around the trader areas. Once you come to a trader you've already thrown a couple down at, you bring them to the camping area (or leave them if you're kiting). Basically, you can go crazy with the flamethrower and ditch it for another as soon as you run out. I can't comment on soloing itself though, and a fleshpound is a problem even with a full tank.

Well, technically, you can buy a lot, but a lot of teammates will try to sell them back for money, so you have to place them so they're not out too far that you'll never be able to use them and sufficiently far enough to dissuade your teammates from doing so.

Throwing extra weapons is NOT cheating. Care to explain?

If it's something to do that works within the game's balance (having to pay for the extra weapons) and the game is actually designed to allow weapon dropping, it can't be a cheat.

How is stocking extra weapons cheating? You still have to buy the weapon it belongs to...

The firebug perk is great for survival on solo. I obtained most of my "hard" achievements by using the firebug when all else failed. Pipe bombs help out a lot during the later waves too. I usually just lay one down in front when I see a fleshpound walking towards me.

My strategy for taking down fleshpounds is to light them and run. If you're far enough away from the fleshpound when it rages you can out run its little hissy fit and light it up again. It won't work all the time, but I think that's the best way of doing it when you're the last one around and want to show off your flamethrower skills.

I know that and you know that. My psychological self preservation would rather HE explain the opposite opinion to me rather than me to him.

Some arguments are so stupid and obvious that debating them will just leave you dumber than before. I think this is one of those.

Let's say you go to a store. You buy a shotgun, buy all the ammo you can (62 shells), load the shotgun and throw it on the deck. Pick it up there is 8 shells in it.

In KF, there is magically have 48 shells with that shotgun.

Add in the fact that the game has a finite amount of specimens and it is a cheat.

I don't care if the game "is actually designed to allow weapon dropping". The game wasn't designed to allow some to have effectively infinite ammo. And since a wave only lasts a few minutes, having several dropped weapons available means that a person can spam or even lay down well aimed rounds the entire wave.

Unlimited ammo is a cheat.

Oh, and smilin, before you start throwing insults around, you may want to hear the other person's opinion first.

It's not effectively infinite. You can ONLY BUY AS MANY as physically possible based on the CASH AWARDED TO YOU BUY THE KILLING OF THOSE FINITE ZOMBIES.
