[Error] Lag

The game is still horribly laggy. Please fix it! And no, ***'ing out the word "lag" in the in-game chat is not a solution. :)

Example:
I've sneaked up on a few enemies in the house at spartanovka, went room-to-room, killed two in the first room, 1 shot each. Second room, guy in the window as usual, aimed shot - nothing. Ok, a short aimed burst - nothing. At this point I've let the mp40 all-out, being rather frustrated and spayed the guy. I've heard one hit connecting, otherwise nothing. He just turned around - and since at that point I run out of bullets - , took aim and shot me with a single shot. Even though I was running around trying to avoid it.

I can also see people "jumping" around quite a bit, which makes hitting moving targets practically impossible. This was on a 32 [edit: 32 only, not even 40!] player server, I dare not to join anything more usually, as with more players it's a complete utter lagfest.

And for the record, my pings (playing on local servers) aren't bad, other games I can play at 30-40ms, this one at 80-120ms only, sometimes it shows 250ms. That'd be enough time to connect to a server 10,000kms away.

I'm sorry but this is just not acceptable!

I say let the high-pingers suffer, if that's necessary to let the rest have a decent play. Maybe they'll learn not to play on servers across the globe eventually. Just fix the damn thing. Pretty please, with sugar on top.

What do you mean? You can't run the game at a decent fps? It's a problem alright, but it's something different. You can "fix" it with stronger hardware i.e. it fixes itself with time. The game has a certain hw requirement, you can't help that (well they could optimise the code better...)

This network lag is probably due to a badly written server code.

Ok ping (Actually latency) is an issue with this game and is across the board higher than in most other games, the fuller a server gets the worse the ping will be, for example if I join my clans server when it is empty the ping will be around 36, this is constant when it is empty, but it will raise as more players join, once it is full (we keep it to 36 players because of the ping)it will raise to 80 or 90

Now we run 3 servers off one box, each server can be full with 36 players, but this does not affect the ping, i.e my ping stays between 80 - 90 on teh game I am playing whether the other two servers are full or not, that leads me to believe there is an issue with the net code and it is bottle necking on the CPU and not the network infrastructure.

This is probably what is causing the hit detection issues, and can make players balloon around, I have for example hid in a corners watching a door, sights up ready to kill whoever enters, and then they just appear beside me instantly, the issue is worse if people are sprinting, my ping is usually around 90 when this happens so it is not excessive (still to damn high though)

Net code needs some serious optimisation

Yep, that's exactly what we're talking about.

Even tho it's just one of the gazillion bugs still around - some fairly serious - it's probably the most annoying one.

Well, I should say getting a promotion as a squad leader and not being able to dislodge the Commander is bad. In the same game - being top scoring - getting demoted by someone else, now THAT's some ****.

This game is just a mountain of bugs, untested, un-optimised, badly planned & built heap of crap. There's no nice way to put it.

The main issue is that the game browser is displaying a ping of 30 and once ingame its actually 130 if not 150.

I believe the main cause is punkbuster but the browser should accuratly display it in the first place. As for why PB is causing lag well devloppers need to find a workaround because this is affecting most populated servers with more than decent spec.

I'm having lag problems now too. Ever since the last two patches the game is basically unplayable. When the game first was released I did not have any problems(serious lag wise). A few glitches, bugs here and there. I was getting like 90 - 120ms ping. Now its like 150 - 250 with all kinds of skipping and studdering around the map and getting the infamous "speed hack detected" msg. I tried everything from reinstalling the game, changing gfx settings, opening ports in firewall settings. No luck. This is utter crap! Just when I was starting to get the hang of the game, now I can't even play it. Any ideas? :(

btw, my system specs:

Phenom II X4 955BE, Radeon XFX HD5770 1gb, Corsair 8GB DDR3 1333, Asus M4785TD-V Evo mobo. Win 7 Pro X64.

Just thought I would update...

I updated my ATI drivers Sunday. Since then, game is playable. How the hell that effects the ping is beyond me. My theory is the performance factor here. Since I did some tweaking to the config file and changed gfx settings in the game, I average 40 to 65fps... Not great but decent. Maybe after the first of the year, with enough updates it will be a better game. :)
