I have seen the word "zombie" thrown around by the TWI staff even though the game description refers to them as lab experiments.

What are the ZEDs? Lab experiments or zombies? I don't see how they can be both, much less even zombies due to them not being reanimated corpses.

Well they are lab experiments but when one shambles towards you and tries to bite your face off, who's gonna argue? :IS2:

That was even officially stated at one point ^

They're technically specimens, but zombie sounds much cooler.

Sacrilage! Zombie is just easier to type :p

Aye Slappy nailed it first, I did write up the origin of all the specimens in my recount of the Killing Floor Story. Although in fairness I did take some poetic license in some of the less explained areas of the original story, but the general opinion is it is pretty damned accurate :)

Here it is if your interested.

It's not like everyone within the KF story itself has to refer to them as specimens. Maybe Dr. Glover calls them specimens but Lewis calls them zombies because he watches zombie movies. Not like every character is the same, even if the voice actor is.

Do not see how that answers my question. I do not see how a Scrake or a Fleshpound would fit under type "O".

First quote.
There's no clear definition of "zombies". It's a general behavior.
If there's many of them, they want to murder you and they do no care for being hurt at all... chances are that's a "zombie".

That's also why the infected in 28 days later and also the borg in star trek are "zombies".
It doesn't have to be rotting, re-animated, undead corpses.

Searching for survivors.

This. Just add the word apocalypse. Specimen apocalypse sounds silly, zombie apocalypse sounds amazing, and like something that would benefit the entire world in general if it ever happened... well it would benefit me.

It's like the phrase "I could care less." Technically it should be "I couldn't care less," but the former sounds cooler and is more widely used, even if it is technically incorrect.

Makes you sound like an idiot though, versus the use of zombie which isn't strictly incorrect but unspecific.

They are basically failed genetic experiments. These failed experiments are pretty brain damaged though, so they have a heightened sense of aggression, no fear, they want to kill and eat you, and some are pretty decrepit. So some like the clot are quite zombie-like, while others like the fleshpound aren't remotely zombie-like. So they are Zeds or specimens officially, but sometimes we call them zombies when we are speaking to the general public just so they get what we are talking about!

You hate it when people call them zombies... you call them zeds/specimens?

tell ye whut, you can call em any of the following:

zombies,mutants,clones,specimens,zeds,muties,Z's,walkers,geeks,shamblers,the horde,the in-crowd,droolers,creepers,crawlers,ghouls, -etc

the list goes on and on, the important thing is you find one that is right for you and your group.

Myself I call em zeds 'cause they are zombies, f:IS2: the so called "zombie purists" those fascist bastards dont know cr:IS2:p.
