Known RO:O Errors/problems + Fixes - READ ME FIRST BEFORE POSTING

    The following is a list of known errors and their fixes/work arounds at this time. If you know of an error/fix not on this list, please pm a moderator (or me). Keep in mind that if you have troubles getting RO to even launch after trying these go to this thread and follow the instructions listed there ( http://redorchestragame.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6649 ). If you have a problem that is not listed in this thread or you have tried the fix in this thread and it persists, please create a new thread.

    Error: I can't connect to the servers online - I get the message ""Can't Connect - The version you are running is different from the servers"
    Fix:
    1. Exit Red Orchestra
    2. Go to Steam -> Files -> Change User
    3. Steam will warn you, ignore and just hit 'Log out...'
    4. Log back in when steam offers you a Log in screen
    5. Launch Red Orchestra


    Error: When I Start RO:O nothing happens
    Fix:
    1. Use this link to verify your cache steam://validate/1200
    2. When Steam finished downloading the rest of the game, Start Red Orchestra normally

    Error: When clicking multiplayer from within the game, it locks up
    A firewall or smiliar software program is blocking the game from accessing the internet.
    Fix: Run the game in windows mode by hitting the keys "alt" and "enter" once you are within the game. Then when you click multiplayer you will be able to see what program is asking to allow RO access and give it permission.


    Error: No maps/servers show up on my map/browser list
    Fix:
    1. Open your RedOrchestra/System Folder
    2. Delete all .ucl files
    3. Restart Steam and RO

    After people die their bodies don't fall to death but stand up and maybe start walking
    Fix: in your C:\program files\steam\steamapps\<username>\red orchestra\system\ folder delete all files with .upl and .ucl (try out engine.ucl first)

    Error: When I launch RO, my computer crashes/reboots (Zone Alarm Users)
    Fix1:
    Run the latest Zone Alarm
    Fix2: - Should no longer be an issue
    1) Within the Steam UI, browse to File->Settings->Run Steam When Windows Starts and deselect this check box.
    2) Close Steam
    3) Find the shortcut to launching Steam on your desktop and add the following to the command line:
    -clientbeta fs
    Here is an example:
    "C:\Program Files\Steam\steam.exe" -clientbeta fs


    Error: When I launch RO, my computer crashes/reboots
    What to do:
    1) Browse to C:\Windows\Prefetch\ and delete all files there ( .pf suffix) that start with RedOrchestra
    2) Lockfolder users this program might cause problems with Red Orchestra on certain versions.


    Error: C++ Library Runtime Error
    Fix1:
    1. Verify your cache
    steam://validate/1200 <-- Use this link

    Fix2: For SDK users
    1. Remove SDK from your system, including the .gfc's related to it
    2. Verify cache
    3. Reinstall SDK



    Error: I have set the rendering device to 'Software' and now my game crashed and every time I try to start it up again it keeps crashing

    Fix:
    1. Find the directory where Steam is installed (default it should be something like C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\
    2. Go into \SteamApps\"your Steam account name"\red orchestra\System\
    3. Find the file called 'redOrchestra.ini' and delete it
    4. Find the file called 'user.ini' and delete it
    5. Start up Red Orchestra normally, you will have to reconfigure all your settings after this fix, since you basically reset Red Orchestra to its default settings (iow player name, video and other settings)

    Error: Game crashes on Resolution changes (This fix should also be tried for other graphical related problems)
    Fix:
    1. Find the directory where Steam is installed (default it should be something like C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\)
    2. Go into '\SteamApps\common\red orchestra\System'
    3. Find the file called 'redOrchestra.ini' and delete it
    4. Find the file called 'user.ini' and delete it
    5. Start up Red Orchestra normally, you will have to reconfigure all your settings after this fix, since you basically reset Red Orchestra to its default settings (iow player name, video and other settings)
    6. If you need to change the Rendering device again, only use Direct 3D or Direct 3d 9.0


    Error: My game looks very blurry, textures look unsharp
    Fix (turn off bloom):
    1. While in game, hit 'Esc' to go to the ingame menu (If you are already in the Main menu, simply click on 'Configuration' and proceed with step 4)
    2. Click on 'Game Controls'
    3. Click on 'Configuration'
    4. Click on the second tab labelled 'Display'
    5. Make sure the check box of 'Show advanced options' is checked, this will make all the options on the roght tirn white instead of greyed out.
    6. On the right in the 'Options', uncheck 'HDR Bloom'
    7. Return to the game

    You can also turn off bloom ingame by:
    1. Opening up the console (hit ~ <-- tilde)
    2. In the console type 'bloom' without the "
    3. Close console by hitting ~ again

    If you still think it doesnt look good and your system can have AA and AF turned up, try setting AA and AF on high settings in your system, it will make the game look much better (high end systems only)

    Error: My game is running abnormally slow (ie: low fps)
    (We beleive some grafics cards have problems with DirectX 9.0)1. While in game, hit 'Esc' to go to the ingame menu (If you are already in the Main menu, simply click on 'Configuration' and proceed with step 4)
    2. Click on 'Game Controls'
    3. Click on 'Configuration'
    4. Click on the second tab labelled 'Display'
    5. In the drop down menu 'Render Device' select 'Direct 3D' instead of 'Direct 3D 9.0'
    6. Return to the game

    Error: When I load most maps i kinda freeze and its like Im the only one on the server and I cant move I can only shoot.
    Fix: You have timed out on your connection to the server, reconnect or find a server with a better ping for you. Or browse to Error: Maps take a long time to load and follow the instructions there.


    Error: Master Server can not be found
    Fix1: In the Server browser menu: Hit the refresh button
    Fix2: Hit Alt + Enter to go to windows mode. Your firewall should be asking for permission to allow an updated Redorchestra.exe access the web. Allow it to


    This Game is currently unavailable. Please try again another time.
    Fix 1 - process already run and needs to be "killed" first:
    1. Quit Steam
    2. Ctrl+Alt+Del -> Go to Processes (second tab) -> Find RedOrchestra.exe -> End process
    3. Open Steam
    4. Launch Red Orchestra
    Fix 2 - Kerio Personal Firewall users:
    1. Configuration > Network security > Find steam.exe and redorchestra.exe entries in the list and erase; choose ok
    2. Manually create new entries for them or if you are using interactive mode wait for popup when restarting steam / roo


    Error: PreCondition Assertion Failed – This should no longer be an issue

    This problem is caused by Norton System works.
    Fix:
    1. Load the ZoneAlarm fix listed above (-clientbeta fs), and delete your RedOrchestra folder from the steam folder.


    Error: "Can't find file 'xyz'"
    Fix: Check your launch options in Steam - right-click on RO in Steam ---> "Properties" ---> "Set launch options" and ensure the box is EMPTY - no text at all. If you launch from a desktop icon, check there are no extraneous parameters - should look like this (roughly):

    "c:\program files\steam\steam.exe" -applaunch 1200 127.0.0.1:7757
    or this line can look like
    c:\program files\steam\steam.exe" -rointro.rom


    Error: Red Orchestra takes a long time loading maps
    We are looking into the over all cause of this however you may do the following to attempt to improve your load times.
    Fix1:
    1) Find your Redorchestra.ini file located in the steam/steamapps/yournamehere/redorchestra/system folder (hint it looks like a notpad icon with a cog)
    2) Change the cache size to better match your ram size
    Listed under [Engine.GameEngine].

    256 Megabytes of RAM or less
    CacheSizeMegs=32

    512 Megabytes of RAM
    CacheSizeMegs=64

    768 Megabytes of RAM
    CacheSizeMegs=128

    1 Gigabyte of RAM or more
    CacheSizeMegs=256

    Fix2: Turn of PreCaching
    Also in your redorchestra.ini under [ALAudio.ALAudioSubsystem]
    Change UsePrecache=True to UsePrecache=False
    and under [Engine.LevelInfo]
    Change bNeverPrecache=false to bNeverPrecache=true
    and under [Engine.NullRenderDevice]
    Change UsePrecaching=True to UsePrecaching=False
    and under [D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice]
    Change UsePrecaching=True to UsePrecaching=False
    and under [D3D9Drv.D3D9RenderDevice]
    Change UsePrecaching=True to UsePrecaching=False
    and under [OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice]
    Change UsePrecaching=True to UsePrecaching=False
    and under [PixoDrv.PixoRenderDevice]
    Change UsePrecaching=True to UsePrecaching=False



    Error: message "Your system is low on virtual memory"

    Fix:
    Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
    Click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System.
    On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings.
    On the Advanced tab, under Virtual memory, click Change.
    Under Drive [Volume Label], click the drive that contains the paging file that you want to change.
    Under Paging file size for selected drive, click to select the System managed size check box, and then click Set.
    Click OK three times.
    When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.



    Error: "The game won't let me install on an other drive then the C drive"
    Fix1: (or contact the local publisher)
    Make sure steam is the only boxed checked when you install.
    install steam FIRST on the partition or hard drive you want RO installed.
    You will need to setup a steam account...blah blah.
    Restart setup, make sure the only box checked is the RO box
    Go through the setup, click install.
    It will find the directory/hard drive that steam is installed and will install RO in the same place.

    Fix2:
    Take the CDkey found in the box
    Go to steam, register product
    Enter CD Key
    Download Red Orchestra: Ostfront


    Error: Downloaded Custom Map but I don't know how to install
    1) Navigate to Steam/Steamapps/Common/RedOrchestra
    2) Drop the .rom file in the Maps folder
    3) Drop other files in the texture and StaticMesh folders as needed

    Error: Gore is not showing up even after turning it on
    Fix: Find this line in the redorchestra.ini/user.ini MinDesiredFrameRate and set it to MinDesiredFrameRate=0

    Error: RO Will freeze on connect - For Firewall/Router users
    Fix: Make sure the following ports are open on your firewall/router
    7757 UDP/IP (Game Port)
    7758 UDP/IP (Query Port)
    7767 UDP/IP (GameSpy Query Port)
    28902 TCP/IP (Allows your Server to Connect to the Master Server Browser)
    8075 TCP/IP (Port set via ListenPort that your WebAdmin will run on)
    20610 UDP/IP (Steam Port)


    Error: RO hangs on connect to server
    Fix:
    1) In your steam directory find the steam.dll file
    2) Make a copy of it
    3) Navigate to common/redorchestra/system folder
    4) Replace the steam.dll file there with the one you have copied.

    Error: Unknown steam error Message displayed
    Red Orchestra is having trouble using a steam service
    Fix1:
    1) Stop Redorchestra
    2) Stop Steam
    3) Find the clientregistry.blob file
    4) Delete it
    5) Restart Steam

    Fix2:
    1) Go to steam
    2) Go to file
    3) Select Change User (this will log you out)
    4) Log back in

    Error: Connection Failed on every server
    Fix1) Make sure your firewall is set to allow RO access
    Fix2) Close steam, delete your clientregistry.blob and restart

    Error: (D3DERR_INVALIDCALL) or D3d9 dll error

    Fix:
    Open your Redorchestra.ini

    It should look like this:

    Protocol=RedOrchestra ProtocolDesc...am.dll from the Redorchestra/System directory
