I'm not a troll or something, but the lighting in the map looks dull as hell. The sky looks like from Stalingrad. Everything looks like +2 celsius. The map is superb but everything looks so moody just like in Russia... If you want it to look cloudy, than it could be that, but it needs tweaking so it feels like and Island not Siberia.
And NO... I don't play on low, I play on the max setting. I live in a could climate and have of the days in my country feel like your map ;/
Does any body feel the same about the lighting?

I understand what you mean.
Compared to the other RS maps the lightning is not that shiny.

Nethertheless, I really prefer this kind of lightning as for me many maps of RS are way too shiny for me and gives me eyes acke....

The lighting and sky are both from Rising Storm so I have no idea what you mean. It seems like you want the colour changed to orange or something.

The problem is that the grass is way to green, the palm trees are to black.
The lighting makes if feel very shallow, the shadows don't have the depth and atmosphere it should. Its like comparing Crysis Low shaders vs High.
Compare the lighting in maps RS:

And this

Crysis shader comparison:

Can you see what i'm talking about? I love the map!!!But the visuals just kills it for me. Maybe try to play around with the sky and the lighting?

The shadow on the tree on picture 2 looks the same as picture 1.

Also with picture 2 you're not even looking in the direction of the sun then comparing it to crysis while the camera is facing the sun.

So far you've told me nothing of substance that I can use. Terms like "depth and atmosphere" don't tell me anything.

Okay another thing is that you put the grass on textures that are not your grass color green.

Compare to other RS maps.

It can be placed on the places like swampy river bellow the bridge but in the whole map it just looks out of place. The grass texture fools the eye when you play and blends everything in. While the bad color textures make the grass pop out and look out of place.

Okay against the sun.

But look how the grass is popping out. The shadows are shallow and the color of the green is so striking like it's very very sunny, while the whole map is gritty and dark.

It is very sunny, there is sun, the beach and open areas are sunny, the whole map isn't gritty and dark. I can understand your point about the mud layer not matching the grass. Things like bushes that you see in that picture don't have shadows to help low end PCs which make them appear lighter.

I somewhere understand what you try to tell, but no use to compare it with Crysis or Stockmaps at this point. I think you also want more contrast in the scene. At some points its kind of flat and the grass is bright green. My guess it custom grass and you can make it a tad darker.

The fact the bushes don't give shadow takes a way contrast and that makes it look flat.

Every feedback is welcome but I want to tell you custom mappers already have a hard time balancing a map gameplay wise. Its of the last two months we see them more often on servers. And still feedback on gameplay often need to be seeked by the mapper.

Feedback on visual aspects is welcome as well, but often depends on a personal taste. One player says "Love the lightning" next players says. "The lightning is weird" 3rd player comes in and say "I don't mind the lightning."

I never noticed the green color on Coldsteel when I started the map. I just did not noticed. Way to busy with other crap on that map. Then people started to tell me and I checked it out. And when I compare old screens I see it. :)

For lightning and lightmass I can advice these tutorials

The green texture is better, but you can mix it a bit still with dead leaves and stuff. No need to make it all green. But still it (green texture) adds to atmosphere of the jungle. So a mix would be great.
PsychoPigeon I don't want to be a pain in the *** so you don't need to listen to me if you think that I am wrong. Just I see the map very visually bad ;/ But the gameplay part is superb :)
BTW - Drecks Cold Steel is one of my favorite custom maps for RO2. And the visuals look good and feel like a hot dusty summers day.
Maybe yeah the the fact the bushes don't give shadow take a way contrast and that makes it look flat.
Sorry my native language is not English so I construct my thoughts in Lithuanian. So maybe it's hard to understand me.

We played this on the aus/nz server yesterday with a full server and it was fun as ****. A and B took ages to fall, but the rest seemed to fall quickly so perhaps A and B taking ages is a necessary evil. My fps struggled quite a bit but that is just the nature of the beast.

what version? Version 7 there shouldn't be any trouble taking B and C unless allies are making an organized effort.

The latest version plays great, the staggered caps at the end change the pace for the better. The bridge is always a significant fight now.

Also, I've been playing it on RGN with dibblers mod (sweet!) and when there's only a handfull on each side, it's a really cool experience. Everyone is sneaking around in the jungle, birds are squawking, the vegetation is blowing in the breeze. It's very tense and completely different than when it's a full server. More balanced as well.

I don't know if it's possible, but any way to lower the number of caps with small numbers of players? That would focus the fighting while still allowing flanking.

The only way to do that is create a 16 player version then the server admin turns something on in their settings I believe, I don't know if more than 16 players could join at that point

Couldn't tell you what version tbh, perhaps you could ask cat_in_da_hat. Japs put up a good defense so that caused a few problems. Anyway, I don't think it's a major issue.

Ah, ok.

It's one of the few maps that is fun with just a handful of players, I feel like I'm in a movie.:)

I played this yesterday, i didnt get to play the first 2 objectives because i was downloading the map so i came in when C was going.

Grass i like alot!

I played Japs, D was pretty good to defend, but there was a bit of confusion as to what you should defend.

Loved the bridge at the end, Bridge over the river Kwai was mentioned.. and i agree.

I really cant comment on how it played out... the last caps except D seemed to fall quite quickly. (but it was not 64players at the time )

My biggest problem was using the Jap LMG. It was very hard to get it to rest anywhere. I would go prone, go to set up, would say i cant set up.
This happened alot... maybe to do with all the small undulations? it was kind of irritating, especially when you spot someone and cant go iron sights.

defend whatever you like, I want to give the player a choice and not hold their hand throughout the map like a theme park ride.

if you're on a slope the MG will have trouble deploying, it should be fine on a flat surface
