too everyone who has posted in this thread:

1. if you don't have at LEAST 1 gig of ram, you will run into problemssssssss.

2. update direct x to directx 9 if you're on XP and directx 10 if you're on vista

3. update your graphics card drivers. this is the biggest culprit when it comes to games not working and coming up with graphics errors.

4. when all else fails. reinstall killing floor and check your hard drive for bad sectors.

It looks like their was an issue with the latest patch download content and not everything came through first time. Server hosts have been reporting issues as well.

I was able to get around this issue by right clicking on KF in the Steam games list > Going to Properties > Local Files > Verify integrity of game cache (as zYnthetic suggested). This initiated further downloading upon after I could join the game without issue.

fixing the crash

fixing the crash

try deleting the ini file or deleting the system folder in your killing floor folder then right click on your killingfloor under steam and go under properties and verify integrity of game cache if the problem persists let me know and i'll try to figure something else out.

I have already fixed this problem with anothers system so try it out.

Anyone getting anything with "UD3D9RenderDevice" (Problem with the Direct 3D 9 Renderer) do the following:

Locate "KillingFloor.ini" in ..\Steam\steamapps\common\killingfloor\System (non Steam version just cut the Steam stuff and locate directly in your ..\Killingfloor\System directory)

Open it with standard text editor.

Search for "[Engine.Engine]" (without the ""s)

Below this line, it'll read:

RenderDevice=D3D9Drv.D3D9RenderDevice
;RenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice
;RenderDevice=Engine.NullRenderDevice
;RenderDevice=PixoDrv.PixoRenderDevice

remove the semicolon in the second line at D3DDrv and put it in the first line (D3D9Drv), so it looks like this:

;RenderDevice=D3D9Drv.D3D9RenderDevice
RenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice
;RenderDevice=Engine.NullRenderDevice
;RenderDevice=PixoDrv.PixoRenderDevice

(the semicolon makes the line a commentary which leads to the system not reading it, so what you're doing is basically just changing the "RenderDevice=" command over to the "normal" D3D Driver)

This should do the trick.

Well, it will probably still crash ingame *sometimes*, but not so often and you'll be able to play the game until there's a fix for that.

If it doesn't work, delete the .ini, then start the game (the game creates a new .ini) and after it crashes, do the steps above.

Hope that helps!

(Sorry for copy and pasting my own words from this other thread :p)

In the Steam 'My games' window, you right-click Killing Floor, click Properties, click Local files, click Verify integrity of game cache, and go do something else not involving Steam while it checks your game.

First make sure that you have nothing in the launch options: Right click on Killing Floor in Steam -> properties -> set launch options - if there is anything in there, then get rid of it, click OK, and then try again.

If that doesn't work then browse to the Killing Floor system folder (by default in c:\program files\steam\steamapps\common\killingfloor\system) and delete killingfloor.ini (has a cog on the icon) and user.ini (has a cog on it) and try running the game again. This should reset your game to defaults. If that doesn't work, try deleting the whole system folder.

Did all that and it did not correct the problem. This is the error I get...

Failed to enter Entry: Can't find file 'Entry'

History: UGameEngine::Init <- InitEngine <- FMallocWindows::Free

I have been using this game for a long time, never any problems. I installed Dogfighter through Steam yesterday and I am sure that caused this problem because I have not been able to run KF since then. Really, really PO'd about it too!

Any more suggestions to correct this problem? I also tried the trick above about verifying game cache under steam but that said all game files verified successfully and it still don't work.

I guess my only choice is to uninstall the game and re-install it from disk and then get all the updates again.... grrrrr

Ok, I got it. Just had to read the message. I replaced the entry.rom in my maps folder because it was missing (as the error messaged told me). Then I got a message that said kf-intro was missing so I replaced that one as well and bingo, the thing runs.

In retrospect, I suspect it was not dogfighter that caused this. I installed a map pack that included a file to delete older versions and that file had deleted those two files in the map folder.

Hope this may help others at some point.

Thanks.
