Hiding from Drop Bears; Aus
Actually, there is a story, from the mod days. Look it up and you will find them. Plus, there are references to the experiments done to the zeds throughout different maps. A key example is Wyre, with the stalkers on the benches, and the diagrams and xrays of them.

Never meant the opposite.

I said that you do not play a story.
You play in maps, trying to survive. Nothing is revealed during the game play, except if you but together the evidence from the maps. Like that Stalker where developed in the Wyre Forest laboratory.

If KF 2 uses the back-stories and biographies and it is made into a story game, with proper script and everything, then it would technically be a spin-off, not a sequel or prequel.

Other than better looks, i cannot actually see any other reason for a "sequel", and any better graphics can be added as a Steam Update, and instead of a new game, i would prefer some new weapons and maybe classes/levels (don't hit! i mean balanced classes and levels!), even as DLCs.

But to enjoy better graphics, many people need to upgrade their systems or build new systems, because for some people an "upgraded KF" or KF 2 will be unplayable.
Furthermore, a KF 2 will cost something like 30$? Add at least 200-300 for upgrades or 1000-2000 to be afford the system that will max out the new game.

sequels can fix long standing technical issues with the original title as well as update the visuals

the accuracy bug with dual wielding would be fixed
the server browser could be built for steam integration and not just be the UT2 browser, it could also report waves etc
the physics system and ragdolls could be brought inline with more modern setups.
the animations can be more intricate, the number of bones could increase
the lighting system gets overhauled and dynamic lighting becomes an actual possibility and not a faked effect.

the AI gets a massive overhaul effectively renewing the game for veterans who've "worked it all out" more complex behaviours like avoidance, cover, flanking could make an appearance. imagine how much more terrifying the fleshpound would be if he can sidestep laws, and swat grenades back at you. imagine stalkers that avoid engaging from the front in order to grab from behind, making the commando's ability to see them actually valuable.

on top of this better smoke and flame effects, refractive cloaking instead of a transparent red texture

and none of that even touches on the core gameplay redesigns that could improve or ruin the game, just the technological improvements

All this issues will be fixed more efficiently with an update.

Creating a new game takes time, usually years, and new games have truckloads of bugs and other issues, so with a new game we will actually have more problems.

Better graphics and effects can also added as an update. Unless they drop KF1 in favor of KF2, having both games running will require support and it is not cost-effective in my opinion.

What i would like, is a KF movie (why not?) along with a story KF game as suggested above (based on the movie), and new retail version of KF with characters, weapons, maps and why not, new ZEDs added.
And why the hell not, the story game can be incorporated to the KF as it is now, and KF will receive better graphics in the new version.

no matter how many times you guys claim this, it'll never happen

most of those changes require a new engine backend so it'll still introduce new bugs, on top of which there's the million odd dollars to license unreal per game. so a free update like that is commercial suicide. a paid update like that will still divide the community

end result, its sequel or stagnate

Interesting.

I had read before a couple of years that Unreal can give you License if you make a contract and give them a share of the profits, but i am not a Corporate Lawyer and years have passed, so i cannot say for sure.

I never spoken of using a new engine.
I think that some better textures can be added in the current engine as well as some effects and generic eye-candy.

Making a new game that will be the same as KF 1, does not sound much efficient to me, when KF1 still looks good and can be updates.

Note that i am interested in gameplay, not fancy graphics.

last time i looked UDK has a 25% cut after the first $5K. so at 1 million sales it would cost tripwire at least $2.5m assuming an average price of $10. DLC packs would also incur the same cut. UDK is only a real option if your an indie and even then you'd be trying to win "make something unreal" to get a free license

Epic Games takes 25% after $50k*.

UDK Commercial License Terms said:
If you create a games or commercial applications using UDK for sale or distribution to an end-user or client, or if you are providing services in connection with a UDK based game or application, the per-seat option does not apply. Instead the license terms for this arrangement are US$99 up-front, and a 0% royalty on you or your company’s first US$50,000 in UDK related revenue from all your UDK based games or commercial applications, and a 25% royalty on UDK related revenue from all your UDK based games or commercial applications above US$50,000. UDK related revenue includes, but is not limited to, monies earned from: sales, services, training, advertisements, sponsorships, endorsements, memberships, subscription fees, in-game transactions, rentals and pay-to-play. You or your company will only need one commercial license to cover all the UDK based games or commercial applications you develop.

Not saying I think KF2 is a good idea. I'd much rather see some more Objective Maps.

RAM? I have 16GB of DDR3 and when i run KF maxed out it takes only 2-3GB.
Same thing happened in my older PC with a total of 4GB DDR2 RAM.

Any video game should not require more than 4GBs. In theory you are fine even with as low as 4GB of total memory.

And there is a large amount of people with 1gb or even as low as 512mb of RAM in their system.

Not everyone has the money to update, and when you update you should "invest" in a medium low-high end system.

Low end systems get outdated very soon.

In my country, such systems cost around 1550-2000

The place between places
Xbox 360 has 512MB RAM and PS3 have 512MB divided: 256 MB system and 256 MB video.

Even if the RAM in the consoles are newer than what is in old PC's and that the two consoles are more dedicated systems, consider what games the two consoles are able to play.

The only problem is that Steamworks has decided not to get off their lazy asses and get a working 64-bit binary and is dragging every game behind that could potentially be better, much more efficient, and have more content in the game. It's the same thing with Killing Floor (and even RO2:HOS). Tripwire Interactive is holding back with adding much more guns because of the issue where you cannot exceed the 2GB memory limit as it is a 32-bit game (and can be upgraded to 64-bit easily) and relies heavily on Steam for a lot of things, such as, achievements and linking other games together for access to certain skins and such. Until Steamworks get off their lazy bums and get a working 64-bit binary, don't expect a sequel or something any time soon, or if you are one of those people who play on modded servers, don't expect your issues with crashes to be over any time soon.

Yes, but they play the Console Versions.

As far as i know, PC versions have more eye-candy and therefore are more heavy, but if the PC version is good, it will allow you to lower the settings to the Console level and have the same FPS.

When a game is ported from a Console to PC, this is another story.

But KF does not currently have a Console Version.
