PC gaming will be dead within the next 5 years. There will still be games, but it will be a third rate platform like mobile phones.

RO: Heroes of Stalingrad is the only PC game I look forward to. And maybe HL2: Episode 3 if Valve ever decides to stop milking the L4D cow. By then I assume there will about 100 HL2 fans left, so that might never happen.

Don't forget that Valve promised that there will be a weapon more awesome than Gravity and Portal gun combined in Episode 3. That alone makes every Half Life fan drool.

What are you talking about? PC gaming is increasing at a steady rate.... I don't think it will be obsolete any time soon.

The point is, on its "own" engine = no more KF1 updates because KF2 dev starts yesterday. Modern engine development is incredibly time consuming and lengthly. "Time consuming" and "lengthly" being two of the biggest factors in burning through budgets.

Oh did you listen to those EA ****heads who try and justify their crappy rootkit copy protection with that?
Yeah right, your sales going down clearly has nothing to do with your ****ty mutilation of good games and your awesome reputation, clearly pc gaming is dying.
And thank you for ruining command and conquer for me you dicks. And dungeon keeper. And bioshock. And lands of lore.
And so many other good things. I like good things. **** you.
Thank you for taking your millions you got out of your crappy sports games and ruining so many great game franchises.
I'll look forward to the day you'll buy blizzard. Or maybe valve, they still make money, you wanna milk them too, no?
Or how about tripwire? You surely can milk the RO and KF franchises and squeeze a few bucks out of the loyal fanbase by screwing it all over the place.
I'll sure as hell not touch any game that has 'EA' written on it which is pretty hard cause that would be almost EVERY SINGLE PC GAME published nowadays.
But clearly, pc gaming is dying.

...where were we?

Mmmm... I see no reason why anyone would want a KF2 only a year after the release of KF1 ?

I dont know in what way the gameplay of KF could be changed to consider it 'KF2'
Or is all this just about the graphics ? Im cool with that.

Yeah, lets rush out a sequel. Because that made Left 4 Dead 2 so much more impressive and made it not feel rushed at all... I played the demo and it was worse than the first game. The "Humor" in it, with Frying pans as weapons and squeaking clown zombies, made me cringe. The first one was quirky, but at least TRIED to stay serious from time to time. I absolutely can't take the second one serious.

I played the full game and it was EXACTLY like the demo. It's pretty much the definitive example in my mind of why you shouldn't crank out a sequel because you can.

And it reeks, positively REEKS of EA meddling. I imagine they had no small part in the decision to rush it out so soon. The fanboys say that it was only published by EA, and that might be true, but it has that "EA GAMES!" crap plastered all over it and it kinda makes me sick inside.

Bottom line: I don't want this to happen to KF...

I have a list of games I keep pinned up on my desk that EA has raped. Yes, RAPED. I'll never forgive them. Command & Conquer is at the top of the list, but it's becoming a very, very long list...

Far Cry 2 wasn't from Crytek or even based on the CryEngine.

No, but it was better than the load of EA shovel-ware known as Crysis...

Getting back to the original post...you can't even compare left for dead/valve and KF/TWI. The money backing the former is probably 2000 times the money backing the latter. FFS, I saw a L4D2 commercial on the Steelers v. Broncos monday night football game. TWI would have problems buying 10 minutes at 4:45am on the local broadcast station. KF is what it is....a fun game with a 6 year old engine backed by a small company. TWI is slow because it doesn't have the financial backing to keep up with bigger gaming companies and with the KF gaming community peaking at 15k or so during a FREE weekend compared to l4d's 50k plus it will always stay slow, unless a miracle happens.

I'm not bashing KF or TWI but you can't compare the two companies at all because one is like a fortune 500 company and the other is like a mom and pop store.

honestly, i'll go out on a limb and say that there will never be a KF2.

ROHOS is the next game, and has been the main focus for the past 3+ years. KF was simply an easy way to get another title out there to get TW some more exposure, more funds and almost distract people from HOS so that they can keep working on it without being constantly nagged about it.

ROOST has lasted 4 years and will just now be getting a sequel. KF will be able to last just as long considering the amount of free content updates that TW does for their games and customers.

For those who say "the WWII market is closing" you've got no clue. people will always have an interest in WWII and you'll still be seeing games in 2050 based on WWII if you ask me. the whole modern warfare genre i think is too limited. after a while it's just the same stuff over and over again. until all out WWIII happens, WWII is still the most famous and engaging conflict to base a video game off of. there are so many aspects of the war that have not really been covered in any WWII fps game and that's the area that TW has and will continue to focus on.

As for other genres for TW to move into, i see them still making the focus on large and overlooked military conflicts. perhaps a korean war or vietnam war game in the future. TW's games are designed to be historically accurate and as realistic as possible. Why they decided on Killing Floor i am still a little lost. Did KF turn out to be a good game? Sure it did. I just don't believe that it's something that TW has any real interest in expanding on in the future.

That said, we'll see TW update KF for a long time, probably even years. The game will still be awesome and people will still love playing it. However the hopes for a KF2 are a little "too high in the sky" if you ask me, let alone already talking about a sequel only 7 months into the life of the game. So seriously play the game, give suggestions to IMPROVE the game and you'll see those free updates TW is known for......actually that's a good thing for the customer considering we won't have to spend another $$$$ for a brand new game

People have been saying that for ages.

Yes, but now it's happening for real. Consoles are more profitable platforms than PC. Console players are less demanding and easy to control. Microsoft has abandonned PC gaming to favor the Xbox. "Big" Games are now made primarily for consoles. Modern Warfare 2 and L4D are good example of this.
