My question applies to the Unreal Tournament 2004 Killing Floor 2.5 mod version, so if this is not the proper place to discuss this please either redirect my post or help me to find a forum or place where I can discuss this and get some help. I can't find any active forums or discussions elsewhere where someone has even posted concerning this subject since one or two years ago.

My problem seems rather simple. I am a Mac user and I have gotten other Unreal Tournament mods to work simply by unzipping their contents, placing the resulting folder inside my Unreal Tournament directory by using "show package contents" and then using UT2004Mod Launcher. The zip file ended up unzipping as an .exe, so I used Virtual PC to install the executable and I got a folder which I then tried to launch using the aforementioned method. Killing Floor 2.5 shows up among my choices in the Launcher, so it's seeing the mod but when I try to launch it, I just get the standard game screen (not the custom Killing Floor screen) and then it just quits on my Dock. I can't understand why this doesn't work since the folder contents seem to be nearly identical to several other PC mods which I can launch with the UT2004 Mod Launcher. Please help.

I got the mod as a way to try out the game before I decided to commit to the retail version. At the moment I am running OS X 10.4.11 and plan to upgrade to a newer Mac with an install of Leopard or Snow Leopard in the near future. My current build of OS should've affect my ability to play this mod though since I have Unreal Tournament and other mods working just fine.

The original Killing Floor for UT2K4 can only be ran off PC, seeing as macs can't support Source Mods. The game, KF2K4 might be ported to Mac, but the mod isn't. Only the retail version of KF is playable off a Mac. Sorry.

It does work, here's how.

It does work, here's how.

Actually, that's not true. It works fine on OS X once you get past the installer being an EXE. I just downloaded, installed and ran the KillingFloor 2.52 mod on my Mac OS X 10.4.11 install of UT2004 (latest up-to-date) without any problems.

Here's how:
  1. Run the installer on a PC/Virtual PC and install to the default C:\UT2004\KFMod20
  2. On your Mac, right-clicked the UT2004 application and selected "Show Package Contents"
  3. Copy the KFMod20 folder from your PC directly into the UT2004 package contents window
  4. Use UTModLauncher to select and run the mod

The trick is to copy the KFMod20 folder itself into your UT2004 folder. DO NOT copy the individual files from the KF mod folders into the associated folders within UT2004. You should end up with a directory structure like this in your UT2004 application:

  • Animations
  • Benchmark
  • Contents
  • ForceFeedback
  • Help
  • KarmaData
  • KFMod20
    • Animations
    • Help
    • KarmaData
    • KF Map Editor.bat
    • KFServer.bat
    • Killing Floor Mod.exe
    • MappingGuide
    • Maps
    • Music
    • Play KF.bat
    • Readme.txt
    • Sounds
    • StaticMeshes
    • System
    • Textures
    • UT2K4Mod.ini
    • Wave Editor
  • Manual
  • Maps
  • Music
  • README-ut2004-mac-3369.html
  • Sounds
  • Speech
  • StaticMeshes
  • System
  • Textures
  • Web
Happy fragging!

Now I get a white screen...

Now I get a white screen...

Well, I went through the entire process of re-installing the Killing Floor mod with Virtual PC as I had done before and the resulting folder was named KFMod20. It then occurred to me the folder I had already in my Unreal Tournament 2004 directory from before was NOT named that. I simply changed the name of that folder to KFMod20 and it worked. I guess I had done everything properly before except my folder was misnamed. But now I have a new problem...

I can't find a way to start an offline single player game against bots, (I guess there isn't such an option?) so I joined a server and connected to one of the few that were available and everything went fine until after it loaded. I saw the map for a split second and then it went to a white screen. I can hear the zombies and myself moving and shooting but it's all behind a white screen. I then eventually die and it kicks me back to a black screen with a circle in the right hand corner saying 29 and then it displays a message saying something to the effect that all of my team died. After this the new map loads and again I start out with a white screen, making the game unplayable.

I did some googling and learned this is a common issue. The replies varied from unhelpful such as suggestions to turn down all the settings to thinking it was a CrossOver Games or WINE issue, but I'm playing the mod through Unreal Tournament 2004 and having the same problem, so it must be universal. The best answer explained that it was something to do with the SDK and the fix is to change the viewport settings, but either I don't have this or I don't know how to access it. What do you suggest I should do?

Nor is this a support forum for the mod. I believe the original mod forums would be your best bet for support on this.
