I am painfully aware of the performance issues, and I am working on a fix.
Long story short I'm "reporting" nearly all the geometry to fix the major culling issues, and modifying a large portion of the material shaders as well.
At the moment I'm about 65 – 70% complete. (so rest assured, I haven't given up on the map) :)
