I haven't played KF much since last year - The game used to run great but now the FPS stuffers. Issues as follows:

*Farm - White flashing sky texture when scoped very annoying.
*Mountain Pass, Abusement Park and Departed - Frame rates seem to have dropped, too bad Abusement is a rather new map and looks cool

Changing details or settings does not seem to make much of a difference - a moderate increase in FPS.

FPS overall seems to vary wildly from 15-75 FPS.
This leads to lag-like stuttering and freezing. It is not my internet connection.

In Lion and Snow Leopard the results are the same on a 2.8 Octocore Mac Pro with a 4870.

Has anyone noticed these issues?

Thank you,

dx

KF Performance Issues

I have been having the same problem
When I originally got the game over a year ago it ran very well, the frame rate never dropped below 35 with native resolution (1920x1080) but as the game was updated it slowly degraded in performance. This used to be one of my favourite games but now it is virtually unplayable.

Notable Drops in frame rate occur whenever foliage or lighting is on-screen.

Please Fix the performance issues with this game, it really is a great game...

i have the exact same problem on those maps, weirdly low fps (10-25 fps) and the weird white sky in farm when zooming. Changing the settings from extreme low to extreme high makes almost no difference (5 fps more on extreme low compared to extreme high)

very strange. this leads me to believe that kf is very cpu dependent, but not very gpu dependent

system: mid 2010 MacBookPro6,2; i5 520M 2.4GHz; 4GB ddr3 RAM@1066MHz, Nvidia Geforce GT 330m 256MB RAM running OSX Lion 10.7.2

One of the best things to do is to turn off the Motion Blur, it helps greatly with the wash-out and funky lighting flashes.

Poor Performance on various Macs

Poor Performance on various Macs

I have to add my observations to the mix.

I bought the game back in 2010 from Steam and it seemed ok performance wise. It was never silky smooth, but it certainly wasn't what it has become today. I am running the game on 3 different Macs...Mac Pro 8 Core 3.0Ghz Radeon 5870 10 GB ram, iMac 3.06 4670 8 GB Ram, and a Macbook 2.66 Nvidia 320 8Gb ram. Tested in both Snow Leopard and Lion. The Macbook with medium settings used to play the game in the mid 30' using the frame rate counter console cmd (stat fps). Granted I play the game very rarely on the book these days, it was mainly when i first got the game. The main machine that I play the game on is my very powerful Mac Pro. It is here that the performance is very poor along side the iMac so the poor performance applies to both. The worst maps being Departed, Abusement Park, Some areas of Mountain Pass, and some areas on Manor. The FPS drops hit the high teens. Adjusting rez and settings makes little difference. Wild fluctuations in FPS and general lag and choppiness. Other maps such as Biotics Labs, Filths Cross, etc play decently but all exhibit FPS drops when action gets hairy. This occurs both in MP and SP. I would say the game started showing these problems when the Potato mod was added in then thankfully removed. Needless to say, I am very upset with the performance of this game and would love to see it fixed. Its a great game, but right now the performance is putting me off playing it, along with others I play MP with. I also have the white flashing sky using the crossbow sight on the Farm level. Again turning off motion blur or shadows does next to nothing. I am playing at 1920 by 1200 native rez. Dropping the resolution will speed it up somewhat but it just raises the bottom FPS from the teens to the thirties. Hardly a solution.

the issue could be due to the fx effects. In general disabling motion blur can perhaps give an outcome to that.

Do you happen to have any anti aliasing functions enabled, in the sense of aliasing transparancy maps?

I have anti aliasing off and blur off. It is the game itself...I have messed with settings for hours. It isn't me just looking at the frame rate counter either, It becomes notably choppy and difficult when trying to shoot at heads. Again, there isn't a much more powerful Mac available to date that is faster than my rig and this mac handles every other game such as Dirt 2, Left 4 dead 2, COD 4, etc perfectly. So I know it isn't the Mac itself. Compounded by the fact that I have multiple machines that have the same sort of performance using reduced settings as per what those machines can comfortably handle.

Generally speaking the game has slowed down. I checked the config file for Apple VA and it is set to 1...so that isn't the problem. Perhaps Ryan Gordon can chime in on this? I just want this game to perform in the best possible way on Mac OS X...I love the game!

when chopping heads off and when sirens scream special effects occur. Perhaps send a pm to [TW]Yoshiro and ask him to reproduce the issue. Give a detailed report of what you do that for sure makes him experience the issue.

If TWI is able to replicate it then it could possible get fixed.
