The Flamethrower isn't needed anymore because of the Mac10 -.-
The MAC-10 is indeed a suitable primary option for the Firebug that has plenty of advantages, but the Flamethrower still has its place, despite what I originally thought.
While the MAC-10 can quickly ignite a lot of stuff when you -strafe- a crowd, and it will bust down a single hard-target on full-auto, it's not as effective as the Flamethrower in mass ZED blob destruction.
The MAC-10 doesn't pierce, has no splash either for impact or ignition and its clip size, while numerically large, is easily burned through when you need something dead fast. The two weapons compliment each other's weaknesses quite well. (One great benefit that this presents is the ability to let that Flamethrower rip more often than before, without fear of running completely dry of damage once it's out.)
The chainsaw is still too weak and why is the scar weaker? There are so little bullets with even less power then before... poor change.
While I personally prefer the Katana, the Chainsaw should, in fact, be comparable as far as general effectiveness is concerned. That said, due to its inability to take advantage of the Berzerker's top-notch speed (one of its shining attributes) I personally believe its damage needs to be the highest, perhaps DPS-wise by comparison to the Katana, which would be better burst.
If you're going to be penalized for carrying a larger weapon and have your speed nerfed into the ground, you need adequate compensation, and since there's no frontal-defense mechanic to the Chainsaw, the most logical step to take is increasing the damage potential.
Of course.. they COULD just say screw it and give us a Greatsword with a really slow swing, but which does area damage to either everything surrounding you, or those within your sight up to a couple extra feet away
Edit: And call me crazy, but I'm REALLY thinking there needs to be a change made to the "miscellaneous" melee weapons: the Machete, Fire Axe and, to a much lesser extent, the Combat Knife. Price and weight reductions for the two former mentions, and perhaps an option to dual wield Combat Knives instead of carrying a 9mm.. I dunno, something unique.
In general this game has far too many unused/underappreciated weapons.
-Sharpshooter: Dual 9mm, Lever Action Rifle
-Commando: Bullpup
-Berzerker: Machete/Fire Axe (Chainsaw!)
-Medic: Medic Gun primary fire (the MP7 is NOT a low-impact weapon, it's a PDW capable of armor piercing)
-Demolitionist: M79, LAW (inability to even carry Pipe Bombs is a HUGE detriment to the class)
-(Support Specialist weapon balance is great, also Firebug with the new addition)
