KF and why it needs a "LFG" System

Just want to share some thoughts here.

One problem I have with KF is the traditional drop-in style of servers. This works well for casual perk-leveling but if you want to get something done, then this system becomes cumbersome.

For starters, people joining half-way through the game can mess things up. More zeds will spawn due to their presence and sometimes the team will now lack firepower and gets overrun.

Next, on large maps, it can be difficult to find the team if you spawn far away. It can also become difficult to distribute and buy weapons in time, leading to the first problem.

I know there are steam groups and friend lists as well as passworded servers, but regardless it can be difficult to get 5 people together whom you know at a certain time. The KF lobby isn't perfect, either; if one person clicks "ready" before anyone joins, he will start the game - if he dies, it changes maps! If 4 out of 5 people ready up, the timer starts and you may get an idle player. I find people just aren't patient enough to wait for a lobby to fill up before starting.

So I wish there was a nice system that acts similar to an MMO's "Looking For Group" (LFG) system. You know, have some sort of public chat where you can advertise your availability and experience, in hopes of forming a team to perform some common task. I think an IRC channel that you can join from KF's main menu would work nicely; Steam groups would be even better, especially if everyone joins it by default when they start - it would allow you to mess around solo until someone in the Steam group invites you or responds.

Maybe servers in the server list can get a new icon representing if the server is in a lobby state and has not started; or if the server is currently "Looking For More", where players in that server are currently just messing around and once they vote unanimously that they're ready, the server restarts on the same level at the voted difficulty and such.

What can I say? I'm tired of joining a suicidal server and we're doing well until a level 3 firebug joins. I'm tired of sitting around in an empty KF Steam Group, hoping to find some people willing to play when I can. I don't want scheduled events, I want to play when I want; I wouldn't mind a little wait to put together a good team. There are players out there playing at the moment, but there's simply no easy way to reach them.

OK rant's over. I hope you guys got something out of this. Share your thoughts!

At the very least a player joining late should remain a spectator and have the option to ready up during the trader window, so if there is say only 7 seconds left, he has the option to opt out and not spawn an extra 60 specimens.

Might also help to add that minimum perk level to the servers thing we suggested a while back.

Might find it a little hard to manage showing the servers status, since once the list updates it quickly falls out of date, and a server that says lobby 10 seconds ago will more often than not actually be in game when you join. Only thing I can think of is an automatic refresh on any server you click on, so it refreshes that one server in the list. Other than that I got nothing.

I'd like to see something like this, but I think getting it to work will be really difficult indeed.

why would you have perk limited rooms

the only possible use of those specific rooms would be if you had a map without traders or weapons :/

a level 0 sharpshooter with a crossbow can still take down a flesh pound :p

Or you could just give free money to late joiners. I'm sure it'd be exploited by people who would reconnect a bunch of times for money but I think it's worth it. It would be less annoying than these ******s who stand around and heal each other for 10 minutes at the end of wave one so they can buy tier 3 weapons off the bat (really, I would like to see them all banned from every server).

Thats a whole new issue which will hopefully be fixed soon.

Its been like that for a year. "Soon...." HAHA.
by the way a support at level 0 can still cause some amount of damage too clots and gorefasts/stalkers/crawlers. which is good enough. Every game has at least one crossbower or M14'er :D so i expect the sharpshooters to fail instead of the actual support whose level 0 i guess its not exactly the perk level but the team it self.

Just saying i keep spare crossbows for late joiners half the time im healing over time because my team plays with gorefasts and husks :D

I didn't specifically suggest a perk limited room, and I agree that they shouldn't be made. If a good friend of yours wants to play with you on suicidal, even though he has a level 2 perk at most, he should be able to. In KF, if a player is good, he can still contribute and pull his weight.

The problem is that forming a group of good, competent players is difficult. A crappy player can easily "drop in" to your otherwise peachy game and ruin it, especially in later waves.

This.

Am I the only one who noticed that but thought "Neh, they'll figure it out"?

As for the idea, I'm against IRC's and chat rooms. It would seem nice but I can already see this:

"SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE I NEED COMMANDO LEVELING!11!!"
"SELLING STEAM ACCOUNT WITH LEVEL 6 KF PERKS MESSAGE ME!!11"

Among other things.
