ANYONE WHO CRASHES AFTER GEORGIA, PLEASE READ THIS MESSAGE

Finally, FINALLY, after all this time I was able to get in game. Played my first three rounds, and I'm able to start KF2 and join servers repeatedly, so this is not a fluke.

In this thread: http://forums.tripwireinteractive.com/showthread.php?t=107979 I used this tip to get into offline.

Since launch, I've been tweaking the game in every way I can think of to make it work. No such luck. But I do remember one thing from the few times I got into the menu - my avatar picture was distorted. At the time, I thought nothing of it, but then after I got the game running while offline, I began to think.

I checked my steam avatar - and sure enough, it was not of the dimensions Steam prefers (184x184 for a big avatar - mine was 184x160 or something). I modified my avatar to have uniform dimensions by adding a border, uploaded it and bam. Killing Floor 2 now works.

Give it a try! (Note: older video card users might still want to use the -dx10 command line option).

TRY THIS PEOPLE, SHOULD WORK (CREDITS ABOVE TO CaptainHeff):
1. Search on google for "184x184" and save any image of this size.
2. Change your avatar (steam image profile) to that 184x184 image.
3. Try lauching the game.

If that didn't worked, you probably be able to play offline doing this:

1. Start Steam Offline. (or turn off your internet with your Steam open)
2. Try start the game.

Sorry for my bad english, I'm brazilian (not joking...)

Man, you saved my life, JUST GO TO GOOGLE, TYPE 184x184, pick any image, go to your steam profile, change it and the game will run it perfectly!

I'm glad my weeks of tinkering got a few more people playing (myself included) :)

Tripwire you might want to wrap the steamworks calls in some kind of exception handler in v1008 :p

Thank you for this information. I've passed it along to our QA team to replicate and get fixed!

Hi there, would you happen to have your old avatar on hand? We could really use it for testing. :D

Hey guys i have tried the fixes suggested and the game is still not working. I am in the process of using dependency walker to find 'lost' DLL files. However i have error messages as seen in the picture provided.

First: Error- I have been unable to find the x64 versions of these two anywhere. However to bypass this it is suggested on the download site I put a copy of these DLL's in the sysWOW64 file. However this did not work.

Second: Warning - No idea but it is a warning so it may not be stopping the game from running.

Suggestions related to this or otherwise welcome :).

Sooo... It kind of fixed. I retried running the .exe redist files located in your SteamApps/common/killingfloor2/_CommonRedist location.

Just tryed to change resolution of my profile picture to 184x160 to see if that causes crashes on my machine too, and game launched perfectly. Maybe because I don't have same hardware as users reporting this?

I used .jpg file to test if it causes crash.

If you have done so, could any users who experienced the avatar-related crash please PM me the email address they used to file a BugSplat report? This would help us sort things out on our end. :D

Thanks!!

Confermed, used to have avatar JPEG 492x492 worked till today. after putting in -dx 10 and setting admin privileges, game still wont start but after changing avitar to JPEG 184x184 game will start. before all this ive deleted KF2 out of steam and from my games folder and reinstalled NV drivers. The only other 2 games ive played before jumping on to killing floor 2 was space Marine and Payday 2.

hope this helps in identifying triggers to this bug.

Any news on this? I'm still waiting to play, staring at it in my steam library like a lost pup.
