I also called an end at 10 hrs 15 min 04 seconds.
The distance from Kearth at this time was 109,173 Kilometers, or 109,173,000 Meters and increasing. Velocity had been constant at 2,963.6m/s for the last hour so I think they have definitely broken out of Kearth's gravitational pull.
We salute our brave Kerbalnauts as they venture forth into the unknown :IS2:
Here is the craft that took them there, the mighty Sword of the Stars MkII. It is actually very basic, there is a large powerful first stage comprising all the solid fuel engines goverened by 3 SAS modules. The second stage is the three liquid engines with four fuel cells each also governed by 3 SAS modules. The final stage is a single liquid fuel engine with a single cell of fuel and SAS module.
Interesting tidbit, this craft is completely hands free, if you have SAS active it takes off in a perfect upward thrust every time. This is the craft I will attempt an orbit with as the final stage comes into play at the very upper atmosphere and I could easily use it to manover and get an orbit done before re-entering.
