I'm surprised there hasn't been a thread for this game yet. I got my copy for the PC on Saturday, and I've been playing it ever since, even though I've already beat it with both endings twice now.

I was also horribly disappointed when I read Gamespot's review for this game on the 360 last week. It looked like BS, it smelled like BS, and after spending a lot of time with the game, I can confirm that it IS total, Grade A BS. Reviewers have complained that the cover system is "broken", and that the aiming is horrible and so is hit-detection. All are falsehoods. The cover system is far from broken, and, though it is a tad clunky, it works very well once you get the hang of it. Aiming is not your typical consolish rail-gun/auto-aim extreme accuracy. It is far more realistic. If you shoot at somebody 100 meters or more away with a full-auto carbine, it may take a few short bursts before you finally bring him down, but as you see the bullets impact downrange, you can see that everything is as it should be, and the more realistic accuracy of the firearms present in the game makes the game feel less dumbed-down for the run-and-gun console types. That's not to say the game is horribly realistic, but the aiming IS, and it's also perfect the way it is. As for complaints about hit-detection, I've never experienced a problem with it. You can see each round you fire impact into both people and the environment, and I've never shot somebody without hurting them.

I feel sorry that I watched all the gameplay videos before I played it, because it took a bit of the "WOW" factor out of some of the more awesome/outrageous missions. Without giving anything away, this game simply has some of the COOLEST environments and missions in a video game, though, unfortunately, they seem to start to get less awesome after about half or 2/3 of the way through.

I haven't been able to play it much because the last couple of days NOBODY has been on the servers, but I did get in two or three games of the Fragile Alliance MP. The enemy AI in MP is pretty tough, and if you die, your teammates can't heal you like in SP, you just die. You also have a limited amount of time before the getaway vehicle makes it's last trip around. This means that in order to be successful, you have to work together as a team or you will ALL die very quickly. But, at the same time, you have to worry about one of your teammates backstabbing you, stealing your cash, and taking it all for himself. So, the fact that you have to work as a team in order to survive, but also think about betraying your team in order to get a better cut, makes for a very interesting and unique experience. And the game is cross-platform, so PC users will have the oppurtunity to prove the 13-year-old pre-pubescent console-loving fanboys that mouse+keyboard=WIN.

While this game has an excellent story, game mechanics, and MP, it does have it's flaws:

-The AI in SP can be rather stupid at times
-As most games are these days, this game's a little too short for my liking
-While the story is great, they could have made the game longer and gone into the backstory of each character a little more.
-Co-op appears to be very interesting, but has no LAN option. You have to play split screen

Those few points aside, the game's absolutely marvelous, and I recommend it to anyone who likes good shooting games and crime drama.

Except for the flaws you pointed out I enjoyed the game (I rented it for xbox though). The cover system was sorta poorly done too though. All around this game could've been so much better.

However, don't you have to pay a subscription to play online? Windows LIVE? That scared me away.

It depends. Some servers require Xbox LIVE Gold, some only require free Silver membership.

Maybe I'm strange or the Xbox controller just doesn't work with this game as well, but I stand by my position that the cover system works very well, though it does take a little getting used to.

Io Interactive kicks *** :)
I loved all of their games so far, being the Hitman series and Freedom Fighters :) Watching gameplay-vids, its kinda like FF, so it's very promising!

One question though, on PC, you dont have to play splitscreen in co-op do you?
Cause it sounded like you implied that, or i just didnt read that well :p

Oh I believe you do...which means either hooking up another mouse/keyboard or using a controller, I guess.

I dunno...I may pick it up in the future if the Fragile Alliance stays popular.

Can you play on the non-ranked free servers against xbox360 users, or just if you have LIVE?

I beat the game last night and for me Kane & Lynch is now one of my favorite games to come out this year. I loved the design of the characters and also the voice acting is the best I've heard since Manhunt. The storytelling(via dialog) constantly progresses throughout the action of game play which makes the levels that you are playing in actually makes sense. There are no puzzle solving or find the key to open the door. Its straight buisness that has somewhat an interesting variety of action game play.

The MP is a added bonus for me as I bought the game solely for the narrative and its characters. Its been a long time since bought a game just for that.

For the mp you need a live account. (gold or silver)

A silver account is free and you can play online via "Play List" which is basically a free play mode for FA. And yes I believe you can play against xbox players. At least you I think you can as see other 360 players in the lobby.

You need gold to play ranked or player matches.

Unfortunately, co-op is split-screen only. I was hoping for LAN on the PC version and then just use a LAN emulator like Hamachi to play online.

Really?
How did they think that would be great for the pc-version is beyond me lol...
Why not just have it online without the splitscreen? Those things allways gave me an headache, especially on tv's.

I'm not one to criticise IO that quickly, but having splitscreen in a pc-game makes it feel like a bad port to me, no matter how much ive anticipated the game.
Why couldnt they just make that online just like Fragile Alliance? What's the trouble there?

SiC, before I question IO, I have to wonder how much influence Microsoft had in that decision and in other decisions with online so it would fit into "LIVE".

BTW, does anybody here have a clue as to why IO would want to sign with Microsoft to make K&L a "Game for Windows"?

Also, I'm going to make a guess and say that it's possible for somebody to do an Online Co-op mod for this game? Or is that not possible?

P.S.: Graphics were just fine on my system DraKon.

Ahh...I've been wondering about this. When I first read the majority of reviews, I kinda looked at them and muttered, "Dude, did you expect your SG552 to be a ****in' railgun? Eh?" Really, take your controller and shove it up your arse, it doesn't fit as well as the Wii, but oh well. :p Lol. << >>

Ok, enough console bashing, but I would like to know: is this worth buying? I'd definitely get it for the MP, but is all the other crap (AI, Microsoft Live, etc) a big problem?

First of all, there's no such thing as "enough" console-bashing, LOL, secondly, the bad stuff isn't a big problem, certainly not enough to make someone not buy this game.

Out of interest, do Xbox users get the same free access to unranked servers? (connecting thru their ISP) or is there always a subscription charge for Xbox live on top of this? (irrespective of which game you play?)
Is this the same for PS2/3 and others?
Sorry, i'm in the dark as to how it works.

I'm not 100% sure, but I'm almost positive that you can't play online on a 360 without Gold. For any game.

As for PS2/3, online play is free, unless the game charges you a fee, which, with the exception of a couple of MMOs that came out on the PS2, they don't.

I've just started playing this game, there's plenty of good points. But unfortunately plenty of bad points too. Mostly technical ones that are probably due to stupid cross platform development.

Characters, voice acting, storyline, all good.

Playing through it now. Am at the part of protecting Jenny. The gameplay could be better, but the story is just so damn awesome.
It's like a good Crime movie.
