When I first joined the RO2 beta I got a feeling that something was off and didn't feel right.
As it turns out I didn't quite remember what RO1 really felt like because when I just now played it a bit, I was wowed.

In short, RO2 has nothing on RO1.

RO1 just feels so much more logical, more realistic. Better.
Just from the top of my head:

  • The time to iron sights is just perfect, it seems realistic and makes close encounters more about hip shooting or melee instead of ultra fast stop, ultra fast IS with no sway and fire.

  • Recoil is easy to control when prone and with support, when standing it is much more difficult. This is realistic and makes careful positioning more effective than running and gunning.
  • Sway feels natural and is also dependant on position.
  • No zoom, it just feels right without zoom and it also makes concealment work.
  • Ragdolls are much better in RO1, actually the best I've ever seen.
Sure, there are some details that RO2 does better and some new features that are welcome, but when it comes to the core gameplay RO2 really feels more like a BF game than a true successor to Red Orchestra.

It's really a shame :(
Maybe I should not have played RO1 again, it really kills RO2 for me...

Recoil is insane no matter what you do. I've shot a RK62 standing, it wasn't that hard. Sway should be increased in RO2, I agree

Close encounters in real life... er, you do use ironsights. That's how it was taught in the army. We'd hold guns shouldered and ready to use the sights at a moment's notice. You don't spray from the hip or charge into melee unless it's your last option.

Zoom and ease of movement are the best things in RO2. If you prefer slow and clumsy, that's just like, your opinion man. Keep playing RO1.

Ragdolls are better? Er, Ro2 has mix of ragdolls and death animations that works better usually, sometimes results in funny glitches.

You can prefer RO1 but please don't call it more logical and more realistic, because it isn't.

This, some of the reasons you listed OP are very stupid.

Yes Tripwire please make the recoil like RO1 I want my PPSH to shoot the sky instead of enemys thanks.

Just because it takes time and is more difficult does not mean it is more realistic.

and have great atmosphere!

i dont know if more "realistic" but i think RO1 had super gameplay. Im lost in Red Orchestra 2, all maps are same and game is too chaotic for me.

Sometimes less is more :/

I don't want RO1 recoil per se, but the difference in control between different positions. It's still controllable when you stand, it's just that you need more skill to control the recoil when standing than when you're prone, and as such it takes longer between accurate shots when you stand than when you're prone. Quite realistic.

Close encounters in real life... er, you do use ironsights. That's how it was taught in the army. We'd hold guns shouldered and ready to use the sights at a moment's notice. You don't spray from the hip or charge into melee unless it's your last option.
If you already hold your weapon to the shoulder yes, and you can move like that in the game.
It's the other times I'm talking about, when you sprint and suddenly come face to face with an enemy, in RO2 you go to IS in 0.1 seconds from sprinting and holding the weapon in one hand and that is not realistic.
In RO1 you're better off to plan ahead and move with sights, otherwise you need to hipshoot or get shot, in RO2 you can run in and if you meet someone you can nearly instantly go to IS...

Zoom and ease of movement are the best things in RO2. If you prefer slow and clumsy, that's just like, your opinion man. Keep playing RO1.
Ease of movement, yes.
Zoom, no, that destroys concealment and in many ways kills the sniper and MG role.

Absolutely not in my experience, the RO2 ragdolls are way too stiff.

If you says so...

Check the video in my sig, that video will show you how fast ADS is killing the game. Fast ADS,fast reloading, auto reloading, what were you thinking tripwire! The twitch shooter fans are loving the fast aiming down the sight. What is the point of having a freeaim system when you can ADS so fast you'll never have to use it?

I played Ro1 at friends place, its good game, but saying that it is better then Ro2 is crazy. So lets comapre it with Ro2, I will not talk about graphics, becaue i'm not graphic freak, but graphic in Ro2 is much much superior. In ro1, gameplay is robot like, shooting mg is like shooting some kind of futuristic weapon, recoil is just ridiculous on mg or smg, yea its not hard it is ridiculous! Just increase mouse sensitivity and it is easy, but you will use hard (at least me) Snipers or Bolt ones, unless you have mouse with on the fly thing.
And much much more.

Only thing which bothers me a little bit in Ro2 is too much semi-automatic or automatic weapons...

Unlike Ro1 it is not robotic, its fluid like human is, animations are superb, sound is superb, gameplay is superb...game is awesome.
So please stop making funny threads how Ro2 is not improvement.

Exactly.
