Whilst installing the game, I decided to read up on this forum to see what people made of the multi-player and I thought I'd bought another ww2 fps dud. I've been disappointed countless times as nothing has come close to online Call of duty United offensive. I played ro2 for a couple of hours last night and I had a few problems with connection but other than that I loved it. Finally a game where you can be a rifleman and not feel at a disadvantage. Just curious as there are alot of comments on bugs, did the same apply when ro came out?

We're on a rising slope and if you like the game now you will only like it more moving forward.

DLC, mods, mutators, more vehicles & etc are still to come.

When RO1 was release I could not play it. Soon after everything was fine. So many games have issues on release.

Glad you are enjoying it - my pc is kaput at the moment so need to fix it before I join you on the battlefield

Welcome aboard :) There are certainly issues at the moment, but I'm quite confident in TWI's ability to sort these out. They need a little more time due to their small team size, but they do some pretty sweet work it has to be said :) If you really like what RO2 offers, I have to say that it isn't really possible to find this package anywhere else. You could certainly play RO1 instead, and some people do currently prefer that - but again, once the SDK is released and people start producing mods that are closer to RO1 gameplay, those people will also be well catered for.

See you on the battlefield, comrade :)

There are a lot of kneejerk posts around here, mate. No one comes to the forums to say how great a game is. ;)

Glad you're enjoying it. PC gaming has a long and proud history of buggy launches. The difference between those and RO2 is that TWI has a long and proud history of sticking with their games and debugging them till the cows come home. It's only going to get better from here!

Trust in the community, but most of all, have faith in TWI.

RO1 didn't run the first 2-3 weeks (partially my own fault, BIOS/PC settings), but the real bugs were ironed out pretty quickly.

Plus all the extra (free) content we got in past 5 years (yes I played the mod, but I really started playing RO1 when I got myself a boxed version).
Some breaks from the game, yeah. But I kept coming back for more.

And support towards mappers/modders was awesome (no personal experience there, but I read the mods forums, looking for new AfterHourz battlefields etc.).

The old community does not trust TWI anymore, trust me.

I am sorry to have to point it out, Verluste, but I am going to politely ask you to speak for your part of the old community, then. Cheers.

No, YOU and a select group of folks here on the forums don't trust TWI anymore. Most of us still have plenty of faith in them, because they've done it before. They'll do it again, too. Don't speak for everyone.

Call of Duty United Offensive was brilliant, I've played it for years. Don't know how you felt disadvantaged as a rifleman. There were enough maps for rifles in CoD:UO. Of course, on the smaller ones: Carentan, Neuville was hard as a rifleman, but there were plenty on which rifles were the best.

If you really want to get a good feel for what the game is truly about invest in a copy of Red Orchestra Ostfront for yourself. I don't know if its the type of game that would be suited to your personal taste, but I played for a few years myself and absolutely loved it over anything else. Its the only game in the history of my gaming career that I can say I didn't care about getting my *** handed to me time and time again.

I think they did a great job in RO2 ironing out some things that held RO1 back(overly high recoil, some sloppy movements ect..,) RO2 of course being on a newer engine has much smoother animations and movements ect.., however they have strayed too far for my taste from the core gameplay that RO1 had. I guess that tried to appease to the masses too much(COD/BF fans). Witch I don't understand why they would even want anybody from that market in the first place. Their place is in Tactical Realism based shooter, no need to try to appease a player base witch is just going to stick to their big name titles anyways.

At any rate RO2 is still great fun, I just hope that later development sees it stray away from the over simplification of the game mechanics and get closer to its true heart.

And why exactly should I trust you, random internet person number 2,304,556?

Despite what you think, no one gave you the authority to speak for the "old" community. Please don't presume to try. Speak for yourself and be happy that you can.

Some people who played the mod version of Red Orchestra disliked Ostfront intently and never played it again after trying it.

The same is true for some who played Ostrfont religiously who now feel they are not getting what they expected/wanted and are miffed at Tripwire.

I am happy to say I am not included in either group

You're absolutely right. Why would a business try to acquire new customers to help fund their multi-million dollar project.

Seriously, think before typing. They are a business. They have bills to pay, and beyond that if they want to make another title as an indie they NEED a bigger audience paying for the game than what they had with the previous title. Otherwise, they either give up on making a large scale game next time, or go begging to a publisher for money.

Not exactly what I meant. Of course they want as many people to buy it as possible. What I am saying is, they still stick to their own style instead of trying to morph in these COD/BF'ish type features into the game. Its really not going to help anyways, because the game isn't going to be a COD/BF title at any rate. They should just keep to what they started with and I think it would be just as successful.

You seem to know an awful lot about Tripwire's business plans and financial situation, would you care to share your source? I hope it's not mindless speculation, because that would be rather silly.
