After an absence of about a year, I came back to RO about three months ago and started playing again.

I enjoy playing both sides. I usually prefer being on whatever side is assaulting. I find it much more interesting than just digging in.

I have a simple question. It may anger some, but I really want to know. I truly believe there is a pro-German bias in the game. It seems whenever I play the Russians I can expect one or more of several things to occur.

1. I will be killed at least once by a German at an incredible distance. It will the be the kind of shot that I will NEVER make with any Russian weapon. Not talking snipers either.

2. I will, over and over and over again, have a German dead in my sights, and no matter how many rounds I fire he'll be okay. I will then be shot and killed.

3. I will have at least once, but more than likely several times, have a German grenade drop in my lap. Not figuratively, literally. Not a problem, but it will be from a German who doesn't even know my character exists. Actually, I will have this happen over and over again. Happens every game.

4. I will be killed by a grenade while behind good cover, or at a distance it should NOT affect me. Most of the time it drops in my lap.

5. I will be shot from around a corner, through a door, or over the crest of a hill. Not from behind either.

6. A German and I will come face to face somehow. Despite my ripping off a shot, or many shots, at point-blank range, he'll win the draw and I will be killed.

I bring this up because these aren't isolated incidents. They happen with such frequency it's ridiculous. How does everyone else feel about this?
Remember, I play the Germans a lot also. And I find when I do I'm able to do these same things.

.

Remember that RO is decently aged.. on certain maps, you will always drop a grenade at a certain point because there is always someone there.
And that doesn't include things like random grenade tossing that often occurs too.

Also never underestimate team communication. If anyone on the other team spotted you, there's a possibility that the entire other team knows you are somewhere.

In general though, I don't know what to say about the issues you seem to be witnessing.. I can pretty confidently state that TWI wouldn't put in pro-Germany hacks that would permit things like you are describing ("german bullets shoot through stuff" etc).. I've lost just as many 'smg duels' against soviets in game as I have against germans in game.

That's most likely player skill. There are some really good riflemen out there.

2. I will, over and over and over again, have a German dead in my sights, and no matter how many rounds I fire he'll be okay. I will then be shot and killed.
Sounds like lag, or maybe you just missed. :p Remember, RO uses very accurate hitboxes that wrap around the limbs, so you can miss by shooting between his legs for example.

3. I will have at least once, but more than likely several times, have a German grenade drop in my lap. Not figuratively, literally. Not a problem, but it will be from a German who doesn't even know my character exists. Actually, I will have this happen over and over again. Happens every game.
Nadespam. Most people know where to throw grenades, and a lot of maps feature chokepoints where many people bunch up, Danzig for example.

4. I will be killed by a grenade while behind good cover, or at a distance it should NOT affect me. Most of the time it drops in my lap.
Even in Ostfront grenades are quite powerful. But getting killed by a grenade behind cover should not happen, it's not something I've seen before.

5. I will be shot from around a corner, through a door, or over the crest of a hill. Not from behind either.
Never seen this myself. Could be lag, or maybe you think you're hidden, while you're not.

6. A German and I will come face to face somehow. Despite my ripping off a shot, or many shots, at point-blank range, he'll win the draw and I will be killed.
Again, maybe you just missed him or simply gave him a slight flesh wound, or maybe it is lag.

You're right that there is a slight bias towards the German team in many cases, but this is mainly due to teamstacking. I mean, who in his right mind wants to play Odessa on the Russian side? :p

It may be lag...but I really don't think so. I'm on cable modem, I have a 2.4 processor, when we switch scenarios I'm usually the first one on the new map. My pc is good.

Everyone brings up good points, but I'm not convinced about the bias not being there. All of the points everyone makes are relevent, but I still can't understand ripping off a full clip from a Russian semi-auto at 20-30-40 feet and not hitting a thing. And I'm adjusting every shot to see where I should put the damn thing, the guy is directly in my sights, and yet it's like I'm shooting 50 feet over his head, left or right, or something.

It's frustrating and I usually quit the scenario right then and there.

You have some some valid reasons for a perceived bias...but all I can tell you is that there are waaaaaay too many times I'm sitting there thinking, "How in the EFFIN' Hell did I miss that shot??" And it's ALWAYS when I'm playing Russians.

Until that changes, in my mind the if anybody is REALLY good at this game, it's only when playing Russians. Germans have built in cheats.

As I was saying before, you bring up valid points. But I still don't believe there isn't a built-in bias against Russians. (Or Allies)

Two cases in point happened today:

Tobruk: I jump through a hole in a wall and just happen to stumble upon a German. He's got his back to me lying on the floor. From across the room (10') I shoot him in the back with my rifle. Once, twice, three damn times. I miss, one, two, three damn times. He finally turns and machine guns me.

Zhitomir: I run and leap into a bomb crater. There's German there. We surprise one another, but I got the jump on him. I'm in a better position to shoot. Point-freakin'-blank in the face I shoot him with a machine gun. He gets up and bayonets me.

No...you have a hard time convincing me that there isn't a bias in this game.

And I don't think its lag. I've got a 2.5 processor and I'm on cable. When we switch scenarios I'm one of the first ones there.

Apparently all my responses are being ignored. I believe its because I'm right. There are pro-German hacks in the game and they just don't want to have it discussed.

Better yet, go look at the code, the game is fully modable and you can see the guns all use the same base classes on both sides.

lol , i play this game since it's out with both sides , i can tell you there are not such things of bias ... with 100% certainty

What is biased is some maps , not properly balanced , but concerning the points you made , it can happen also if you play axis really , most of the time it's packet loss , innacurate aiming , bad ping , a "ritterkreuze player" who got you by experience etc..

If you compare the weapons , both bolt rifles are about equal , granted i prefer the Karabiner , but only because of the feel and sight , speaking of the sniper , the Russian sniper is better IMO (i do better with it in long shots ) , the Russian SVT40 is great (better than G43 and 41 for me , i find it more accurate and it kicks less but i didn't test it scientifically so it's subjective ) , the Pepeshka rules at close range and can be almost as accurate as MP40 at distance in the right hands , Russian grenades are more practical with the pin etc..

I do not want to contradict you because you may find it's legitimate to feel like this since it's what you experienced online , but one thing is sure , it is not a built in hack or anything like that , it depends the map , the teams against you are playing , the luck etc.. i'm sure that if you play axis more often , the same kind of things will happen

This may seem like a evil thing to say, but correct if im wrong. You bought RO off steam during the $5 dollar period? You may have played other games such as COD or DOD(S), The difference between these games and RO is IMMENSE. Maybe your just simple aiming your weapon at the wrong point. Im pretty sure most RO weapons, your sight must pretty much cover your target (if your a longrange shooter) you might be aiming your gun too low. My advice, go to a empty server, or better still one that runs the shooting range map, and just get to grips with the weapons. Im a heavy Russian player, i have no problem with my trusty Mosin Nagant picking out that hitlerite panzercommander out his turret.
