Jaw on the Floor

I have to say since Battlefield 3 was announced, it had been the game I had been so eagerly anticipating. Sick of COD since it went to consoles, still weeping over Medal of Honor's last attempt to do something even resembling the freshness of Allied Assault a decade ago, and not even considering clone trash of these franchises, I felt the closest Id ever come to the original RO..would have to be found in Battlefield 3.
Then I read IGN's latest article just about an RO2 3 days ago...and my Jaw hit the floor.
How in the world I missed that this was being developed ( considering the time I spend..daily..pretty much on Gamespy and IGN) I cant figure out.
Its been prolly 5 yrs since I played RO ( a digital download on a PC that died sometime ago..I cant remember where I downloaded it) and must say it is the most enjoyable shooter I have ever played..so to hear of ALL the features,ballistics , modeling etc, that will be present for me in 6 short weeks ( and mabey beta access too :)!!!!!)

P.S I tried to share all this with my Wife ( sporting a full faced toothy grin and childlike gleam in my eye).
She just rolled her eyes, turned and walked away, and put the twilight saga on the tube.
Her loss!

I think you answered your own question there. Spend less time on console oriented gaming sites like Gamespy and IGN and more time on PC oriented gaming sites like PC Gamer for example. :)

PC gamer is balls, I get all my news from Escapist, don't really miss anything. Plus it covers non video game geekdom, so it will expand your horizons.

Oh and by the way, my own experience: I heard about ROOST, and I actually looked at the wiki and videos several times, but I thought it was made my Eastern dev (Russia etc) and I tend to have bias against them for making low budget games. When RO2 started making rounds I watched a video of the team talking about the game. And my Jaw also hit the floor. I was shocked that a dev team actually was doing things that always should of been in games (bipods on objects/ground, realistic scopes and guns)

Even though I really wanted RO2, it wasn't until I bought RO1 that I actually started wanting RO2 badly. RO1 is an amazing game, that turns FPS games on their head. RO2 will be simply amazing.

I don't look at any game magazines/reviewer. They are too bias and 97% of the time they are too busy stating the painfully obvious instead of giving me details like "This game has 32 players max" or "This game has a network code which does this which is very clever because of that". Or "What makes this game different to the other is how they have done this feature or this feature is fairly new compared to that".

Instead it's like "This is a world war 2 game. It is amazing if you have had enough of CoD". Oh....why...thank you.

Forums are a great way to get information as things get spread by word of mouth. That and real people on the real internet are a bit more real than some guy being paid to say stuff.

You really thought a battlefield can come close to a red orchestra ?

Battlefield 3 is modern warfare with tanks and heli's.

Hp based tanks the and everything.

EA can make nice trailers but thats it

Not in what I wanted from a game like RO2, but at least some ballistics and realsitic movment and sounds, Bad Company 2 had that and is by far superior to COD and MoH. Ill expect better from BF3...
As I said though, my eyes are now on RO2. This is my type of game.
Just crossing my fingers for DX11 implementation!

G4, IGN, GameSpot, GameSpy, etc. are terrible in every single way.
GT is okay. ScrewAttack is the by far the best and it's actually very good.
By the :IS2: Trophy Holder is PCGamer, those bros know their games.
I suggest you watch G4's review of RO Ostfront wich is yet another example of Americans doing it wrong in every single way.
The moral behind this? Life, like RO, isn't easy but it can be fun.

Disregard BF3 (not even talking about MW3) because some recent news made me realize DICE is not gonna make a sequel do BF2 but a crap FPS.

RO2 has been described time and again as a "thinking man's FPS" and it is that way because TripWire is a small 20 man company that originated from a sucessfull mod team and is under the radar wich allows it to have a good, cancer free community that helps with development.
Also TWI is made of gun nuts that actually shoot the guns that are in their games.

I usually just go on metacritic, read some of the bigger, well known reviewers, then go to my favorites like Yahtzee at ZP, or Angry Joe, and then draw my own conclusions.

I love how there is pretty much a consensus around here that ro1 is the best fps of all time. It caused a total paradigm shift in my view of games. Akin to a religious experience. I had seen the truth and the truth had set me free. I truly feel sorry for my friend who is excited about mw3... he's gonna run in circles around a tiny square map .... with no objectives.... hip shooting with 100% accuracy.... across the map....into the spawn.... with a grenade launcher.... checking his k/d ...and hell get pissed off and not even enjoy it.
