3D & Animation Isu-152 Isu-100 Isu-122

Sure its not that hard to compensate less polys with good textures. The cables at the side of the vanillaRO Tiger come to mind. ;)

i
ts blatant to say that 8000 triangles is way more than the limits actually in the game, and that it will take more resources than the stock game?

No its not...sorry kinda little misunderstanding on my side. But add a bigger map to it....anyway i just say its way to early to state Dh whould be unplayable on low power machines....thats all...

The fact of the matter here is that we're not dealing with a next gen engine, we're dealing with UT2K4. Things like aerials and tow cables look great but are a huge waste of polies on most models on this engine.

I would say that game artists always have to walk a fine line between believability and performance. Err too far on one hand and the model doesn't look much like the actual thing, err too far on the other and performance suffers and no one gets to see your fine model anyway. There will always be tension in that decision.

On the other hand, anyone who doesn't think you can compensate for low polie models with textures should go take a look at Captain Obvious's Stug. 4500 polies worth of believable tank.
Yeah I'm no expert but I know basic optimization concept (even if I don't know how to model). Things that are nearly 2d like bolts, hinges, cables etc should all be textures. Once you are further than 20 feet away from it in game you would be hard pressed to notice the difference between using polys VS textures. And once you are even further away you really can't tell. Hyper detailed stuff is only noticable when you are right next to the tank performing a detailed inspection of it. Anyway those are insanely good tankman. I thank you SO MUCH for making some deadly equipment for the Russians. Which they sorely need. But I have one question: Is it possible to also make the SU-152? The SU- 152 was made in time for Kursk battles and REALLY REALLY could be used. Maybe with some slight modifications to the ISU-152 you could make it? If not it's totally OK, those 3 beasts will be awesome to have nontheless.

Oh well, if I must buy more ram and video card just to play DH.. I think I'll stick to vanilla RO/more system friendly mods.

Anyways, those SU's looks really great. And if they will appear in the game, many people will really apreciate your work. And it will be possible to give Russians more punch on Orel and the like.
well bolt what pc do you have

I am a little alarmed if game artists start saying they don't have to respect limits and think about performance. I'm surprised it requires discussion, tbh.

After all, I could make just about everything in game look better if I used 4096x4096 texture maps, assuming the engine supported it.

Read PC Gamer at the weekend. One of their guys was trying out Crysis and broke 3 PCs doing it. Broke as they wouldn't boot to the OS again. One of them was hanging just after loading the POST.

I think the Crysis engine has a way to go before it people can use it. Like 5 years into the future ;)

Ok guys i dont know what this whole settlement is about Like i said I will do my best to lower ever content i make for Red Orchestra. I know for sure the Su-100 is around 7400 triish Same for the 122 Mu ISU-152 is around 8k tris i know i have to lower it which i will. But there comes to a point i cannot lower it anymore thus doing the model more harm the good for example the sherman tank for DH is 7300 tris around there. if i try chunking off more of the body i will distor the modle thus doing it good, so i really dont know what to do ..

It should be noted that the ISU-152 was not a true tank destroyer; it had a very low rate of fire compared with specialised tank destroyers such as the German Jagdpanther or the Soviet SU-100, which could manage 5-8 shots per minute. However, attention to camouflage, quick changing of the firing positions and using the ISU-152 in groups of 4-5 vehicles reduced the disadvantage of the low fire rate.:)

in other words; if you miss your first shot you are dead meat! :D

your Correct :D they only have 2 shots every min this is what they say about the su100 The SU-100 was a Soviet Union Tank destroyer. It was used extensively during the last year of World War II and saw service for many years afterwards with the armies of Soviet allies around the world. It was developed in 1944 as an improvement to the SU-85, built on the same chassis as the T-34-85 tank with a long 100mm gun developed from high velocity naval gun. The SU-100 quickly proved itself to be among the best self-propelled anti-tank guns of World War II, able to penetrate 125 mm of vertical armor from a range of 2,000 meters. This was quite capable of defeating any German tank in service. ohh but not a king tiger tank :p not the front no

Hey Tankman. what you really have there are the ISU-152 the SU-100 and the SU-122. Which is awesome and fine by me since at least one of them is deployable on Kursk maps. Also you can make another model with very little problem hopefully. Take the ISU-152 and simply make a version with a 122mm gun, now you will have a ISU-122 also, presto 2 different models. To avoid future confusion the letters "I" and "J" are often interchanged but they are referring to the same model (ISU-122 = JSU-122). You could also take the ball mount of the SU-100 and attach an IS2 122mm maingun to it and mount it on the ISU-152 chassis and you'd have an ISU-122(S).
