From what I heard, the kick is so bad it may aswell be an excuse for assault class to have an SVT-40 that can defend itself in 10m or less, which would kind of be realstic. Shortly after issuing the weapon the Russian authorities ordered their troops to fire it in single-fire only.

So, is there a point to using automatic fire? Or is it just a novelty?

Yeah, I hate that gun. I didn't know if you can fire it in single-shot, the middle mouse button just bashes for me.

Its handy for clearing rooms as long as you control your shots and not mindlessly spraying the whole room.
And you never know when you come into those panic situations where being able fire automatic is going to save your life.

the AVT40, when i tried was really good.. but I usually see ppl shooting semi auto with it until they get close and dirty.. then they turn auto and mow down ppl in close quarters.

Yeah just click 6 to change to the alternative fire mode,

The AVT40 is great when you are in close quarters and know how to control the firing properly

Well, it's a SVT with an optional full-auto function.

Can't complain about that, but when compared to the MKB, it's a bit pathetic.

I think it's gorgeous. It has more stopping power than an Mkb42, so one-shots at range are easy. It has an excellent sight picture, and it has the emergency full auto. As one of the earlier posts said, I use semi-auto on the approach and switch to full auto inside buildings (although you can fire quite rapidly on semi auto too).

My only gripe is that the game doesn't remember the weapon function between deaths, so I have to keep switching to semi auto when I respawn.

simple rule in-game: semi-auto outside/full-auto inside

The Springfield M-14 is a similar weapon as the AVT in design and intended use. Large caliber rifle with a heavy hit and kick. Full auto is selectable on the M-14 as well but hardly useful in most situations. My father was issued an M-14 at the begining of the vietnam conflict. He said they were told to never use full-auto and the selector switches were removed on many of them. It is understandable as to why.

I love the AVT, firing bursts, full auto, or semi. I think it is a good gun that people just haven't gotten used to yet. It is NOT an assault rifle, but rather it is a battle rifle. So it would only serve to annoy you if you expect it to handle like the MKb. The only real problem with the AVT is that it only has a 10 round magazine.

How can you say SVT 40 will be unusable in auto mode? Just like saying AK 47 will be unusable in auto mode? Both AK 47 andSVT 40 work on the same principle -exhaust gas moves a piston that reloads the next round. This is proved to be the most simple and reliable method of reloading an auto Rifle (assault rifle)
Both AK 47 and SVT 40 use same round 7.62 rounds in diamether the only think that is not the same is the overall lenght of the round and the lenght of the bullet itself making it more powerful, penetrating and accurate and adding some more kick.

left to right Ak 47 round, middle -NATO 7.62x39 round, last- 7.62x54R -the one used by SVT (and of course AVT)

There's a huge difference in power between those two caliber, you can not many any kind of comparisons of full auto firing between the AVT and the AK47.

As for the weapon itself, I found it utterly crap. It may be just me, but it felt the recoil was more than that of the SVT. Either way, I had a lot more success with just the SVT in any imagineable situation :D

It really is a good gun; it may have ridiculous recoil and a smaller clip, but each bullet has a ridiculous amount of power (On account of it being a converted semi auto rifle to full auto). If you meet an enemy in close quarters, the avt will take them out faster then anything they have. That is, as long as you've aimed on them correctly.

I don't know about everyone else but I've found the key to using the AVT (for me anyway) is to make sure the gun is rested as often as possible and then try to control your ammo usage by firing 2-3 shot bursts. If you go full-auto in close-quarters the rof & recoil on that gun is far too high to be of any use - either your first 3 bullets will kill the target or you're just shooting the ceiling after that anyway.

If the rof of the AVT was a little lower it would be a monster of a weapon. For now it feels more like the ppsh back in RO1.

Obviously, not as effective as the Mkb42 at close-medium range but more effective over long range and the full auto mode is useful when you get caught off guard at close range.

The avt40 is a very good weapon.

Basically you get an SVT40, no problem with that, accurate rifle. In addition, you can now shoot through most walls, making it plain deadly.
Been called a wallhacker at least once every two maps since i'm using this baby.

And the full auto is not to be underestimated. Any indoor setup with walls will pretty much be your playfield if you now what to do.
Station is a good exemple, in the frontline building you can go on a rampage as germans are pushing, pre shooting walls like crazy.

Just switch to full auto & shoot bursts of 3 bullets through walls, next to doors, wherever something "sticks out", wherever german chatter comes from.

Same goes for grain elevator. Just aim a bit lower than usual (belly) & get ready to counter the kick as soon as you fire.

A 3bullet burst through a wall is generally a kill, i gotta say after leveling that kar98k to 50 that this is my favorite weapon.
Hell you could divide the clip size by two & remove the full auto ability it would still be my favorite just because of the penetration power & the "zomg died through a wall gotta be a cheat" factor.
