Is RO2 in danger of becoming the next Day of defeat?

I think I should just take a break from the forums for a few months, cuz man, I'm getting so sick of all this crap about Tripwire selling out, they ruined my game, they released a lemon, they took away this, they added that, my computer is crap but they didn't bend over backwards to fix my own problems, Red Orchestra has small maps, there's too many assault, there's not enough riflemen, I don't like zoom, I don't like bandaging, I don't like stats, I don't like unlocks, RO1 was so much better, I'm an RO1 vet, I'm a war expert, blah blah, frick'n blah...

RO1 sure as hell wasn't a spring chicken when it first came out, and RO:CA sure wasn't perfect when it first came out either.

But RO:CA became a monster of a mod/game. It got patched, vehicles were added over time, more weapons, more maps, more in-game features. I knew people who just bought UT2k4 just to play the mod.

Same thing with RO1. Tripwire continually patches, updates and adds piles to their games long after official release, making them far more than what they originally were.

RO2 has been out for how many days now?

6?

And here you all are ready to execute the prisoner before the trial, while trying to compare a freshly released game to its older counter-part that had years of work, patches and additions tossed into it to make it what it is today, while thinking Tripwire works the same way as other devs. (patch to fix bugs & then leave it after a year or so, and charge you for additional addons)

It's an unfair judgement.... and an ignorant one at that.

The game is 6-7 days old, and people are trying to predict the future of the game & Tripwire as a dev.

Come back in 6 months and predict something... not 6 days, cripes.

I played DOD for many years and I played DODS for many years.

Please explain how DODS is "arcadish".

if you ask me, they did a great job with DODS. I like it and it's the game I've been playing since it was released up until now.

RO2 has my gametime nowdays. Just hope they iron out quirks.

I just had to mention that I LOVED the earlier versions of the Day of Defeat mod. I did not fancy the overhead icons in the later versions, and DoD Source is just... I won't even comment on it ;).

The unlock and player progression system is the only thing I really really dislike in RO2.
(And the current lack of features for competitive play :D)

Do all these people moaning actually remember the first release of RO? I am really beginning to think that these so called RO vets, came to the party much later, met the totally updated and revamped version of it.

When it was first released it had chunky graphics (still does) was as buggy as hell and had small maps (in comparison to the later maps released)

And just because you love big sprawling tank maps, does not mean the rest of us do, I play RO2 for infantry combat, I hate tank maps, always have and always will. I don't mind a few tanks included in larger infantry maps such fallen fighters, but maps where you have to run 1km or try to find a transport to get to the battle are just boring to me, and MANY others

If you don't like it, don't play it, it is really that simple... the vast majority of infantry battles take place within 200 meters its just a simple fact, it is why the vast majority of modern infantry weapons (assault rifles) are ranged to 300 meters, it was not felt then needed to be ranged further for normal use. These were lessons learned from the battles of WW2, the Kar89 may of been accurate to 800 meters, but hardly was ever used at such a range

There is a reason why weapons changed after WW2, why the assault rifle became king, because most battles are fought close up and personal (within the previously stated 200 meters) that is why modern rifles are semi auto or fully auto with a range of 300 meters, with larger clips, because that is what made a soldier more efficient and was more suited to modern combat.

The game mechanics are not broken, they just need tweaking, so that stamina, suppression and wounding are more effective at hindering a player. Everyone that plays on our servers (we have two ranked servers, both very busy) never complain about the maps sizes, they complain about bugs (like sound cutting out still and having to leave the game) The complain about low FPS, they complain about high pings etc but map size is not an issue

Get over yourselves, you bought 1 copy of the game, like every other person and that is exactly how much your opinion is worth, just the same as mine. TWI designed the game how they wanted it, we either like it or lump it.

Personally I love it, and when the bugs are ironed out will be a great game and will be fully supported by our clan for a long time

Woot more DOD 3.1 fans. People still get upset about being 1 shotted with the Garand, haha. Most people play on the small maps but back in the day there were some HUGE maps (in terms of half life) that played great.

DOD:Source is meh... completely different game from from DOD in my opinion.

I hope RO2 does become another DOD though. That game had a massive modding community, huge competitions, and days of fun gameplay. I hope it does not become a DOD:Source!

Maybe if mappers put less details into the maps (furniture) they could increase the size of them?

Exactly. None of the "vets" seems to remember the release.
Remember how a lot of people couldn't even start the game for weeks?

I was one of em'

Sorry to say but what fun is there really all playing with rifles? I mean seriously ask yourself this question. We might as well all be playing in WW1 then. It is nice to be able to play a slower rifle game from time to time but this game for me would be dead if all there was, was just rifles with the odd once in a blue moon Mkb. Sorry that wasen't WW2 and it wasen't Stalingrad. Seriously, watch some documentarys on WW2, read some history books. You will see WW2 was about machine guns...it was about getting owned at every corner!

The guys that are complaining about weapons in this game should really just uninstall this game and wait for a WW1 rifle game...

Yes I remember. I remember the game full of bugs, crashes and issues. My first thought the very first time I loaded up RO1 the first month it was released was "omg, this looks brutal"...it not only look bad but played like @ss as well. It was work to play the game at first. Then after a few big patches the game was good to go...

im not so sure the maps thing is a fair comparison. Red october factory is probably 4 times the size of kransyi ocktabyr.

RO: I don't recall any issues for me day 1 and I got it day 1.

I must of been one of the lucky few, although this time around beta worked great for me, but now every update patch the number of crashes is getting worse not better.

I think you need to get over yourself actually. Just because someone wants bigger maps and more tanking, doesn't mean they should shut the **** up because you don't want that.

Alright, I can't stand this place anymore now. I'll be playing the game online from time to time, hopefully some patches come out, new content and stuff, but this place is too retarded.

I agree I think how fast people are dying is how there view on the maps are small. The accuracy has increased Red October map is huge. I think the accuracy of the weapons and ease of killing makes it feel smaller. I don't believe large maps would work.

I agree 100%

This is Stalingrad.

"The point of these observations is that the Soviets had no opportunity to grasp the nature of extended urban warfare or explore the inherent defensive potential of cities. Either cities were defended in their surrounding fortifications, as in Odessa, Sevastopol, Tula, and Leningrad, or they were taken relatively quickly as part of a larger campaign, as was Kiev. The closest the Soviets came to their later achievements at Stalingrad were the individual feats of courage and resistance in the face of certain annihilation that Soviet soldiers exhibited at the fortress of Brest-Litovsk on the Soviet western frontier, and in the fortifications around Sevastopol. Stalingrad thus represented something new for the Soviets

You bought the wrong game for tanks! Did you not even understand the game title? Staligrad is close and personal. Do you even know anything about this battle? I swear some of you guys have no clue what WW2, at all really...
