Is it possible?

I was wondering:

In theory, could I take a small, rectangular model and then hypothetically skin it with the "Dosh" texture and then for animations would it be possible to in theory just make something move forward (would something just gliding along the ground require an animation?)

I'm wondering, because I was thinking of doing a mod to get into the bussiness of handling the software and actually syncronizing everything together. The idea is simple, except for the coding: create a custom zed. Make it look like dosh, exactly. Make it only move when it is not being seen by the player (I know this can be done, as I know it applies to spawning and zed superspeed, no?). Then, if the player gets too close to try and pick it up, It plays "Shut Yo Mouf" from Loadsa Money, and then promptly explodes.

I was wondering: it is simple and crude when compared to the Brute, but how difficult would this relatively be? Could someone new to these things accomplish this?

I would really appreciate some feedback :D

That would piss me off so much, and make me laugh so hard. Can u give it eyes, like on the Geico commercials (u know what i'm talking about right?)?
Cool idea, much like. and a cheap model and texture would prolly work well for something like that, since no-one pays attention to it anyways :D

Hmmm....giving it eyes would be sort of a give away, but might make it even more funny. Maybe configurable between the two? :D

And that would also help me learn the configuration code. And really, the difference would be miniscule, so it wouldn't be too difficult (probably the hardest part would be making it an option, but you have to learn somehow, right?)

Of course, imagine this with the specimen-only mutator...O.O

it would be like the weeping angels. Just. Don't. Blink. :p

Of course, I don't know if the animations would work, and I also realized that it would be extremely difficult to understand if it was dead yet....I mean, the ragdoll dosh would just remain stationary. So you can never tell if its a dead one....or a waiting Doshsassin!

For it to work, i think it shouldn't be a zed at all. It should appear, with jingle noises like normal dosh, randomly next to any two players within a certain radius. Like, if player A is 5 meters or less from player B, dosh-zed appears. Dosh usually doesn't get thrown around during the wave, which is the thing that i would find annoying about this mutator. it wouldn't fool me much. but if it appeared at a time when someone else might give me dosh, then its much sneakier. Or, if it could be coded, it should appear within a few feet of any player who asks for money using the preset chats :p

yeah, I was planning on working on the spawning, if I make it. I mean, it could always spawn from crawler spots, but those are often guarded. All in all, the spawning would have to be carefully coded, especially since there is the fact that spawning during trader time stops the clock.

Perhaps a closer spawning would work, I just would want to make it so it doesn't stay in place if the team moves....perhaps it moves until it reaches a certain radius, and then it remains still?

It would not require an animation if you just wanted it to glide. Most of the time if I'm reading it correctly it would not be seen moving by players.

if the coding is right, it would never be seen moving...just an innocent, lonely quid looking for a home...

and thanks for the info :D

There could be a mutator that adds the money pickup to weapon spawns. Maybe have a chance of it spawning on a weapon spawn or maybe if players saw money around map as a pickup, they would let their guard down.

Ha! This would be funny. It'd also be funny to make a "wandering dosh" ZED. It appears randomly in the map and when you find it, it squeals and glides away. The only way to pick it up is to chase it down and corner it. >:3

Hmmm not a bad idea... Me and Benjamin dont have a purpose for the Shiver yet...a money zed or a zed that spawns 2 to 3 times in a complete game that give you a ton of cash when killed would be cool. Or just make it spawn in a random place and make it wonder arround the map during trader-time.

Dont know if will sacrifice the Shiver for it, but we might.. :)

You guys played monday night combat? You're reminding me of the Mascot round where a dude in a suit runs thru between waves and u have to shoot him to make him give u money :p

Hmmm....another interesting idea for the spawning. I certainly like it....it would certainly switch things up quite a lot, adding dosh to the weapon pickups and then having the Doshsassin lurking among them... >:)

Oh, hell yes! But there'd have to be a way to stop it getting into the trader room. But whoever gets it, gets the jackpot!

actually, that already exists: if you try summoning zeds during trader time via cheats, they will not enter the trader space unless shot at from inside the trader space. They will wait right outside.
