Having played the game a good 3 hours now I can pass my real verdict.

Overall its a pretty fun game and i can see myself spending a good deal of time playing it. However, movement and animation definitely need to be sorted out, open sighted recoil need to be toned down slightly and most importantly, the maps need to be much bigger.

my first experiences:

meh. you can't see where the 4 years of developement have gone into.
It plays somewhat like CS with a few hints of RO, definately not the RO killer Jeremy wanted it to be.

Things I noticed: No spawn protection whatsoever and easily accessible spawn zones = bad.
The red-dot sight has magnification... guess to show off that theay have the cool RO-like 3D scopes.
As mentioned already, the 3rd and 1st person are off.
Animations are clunky at best, not really an imrpovement over the trailer.
Insurgents talking american english with fake arabian accents.
Everyone yelling "reloading", making ambushing quite hard.
There seems to be a way to crash servers. Happened in the first half hour. someone joined, announced crashing it andit was gone.
You can't even walk in ironsight mode with some weapons.
Freeaim is rediculously small.
For a 4 year old engine, it runs pretty bad. I could run HL2 and all mods up to date without any stutter. Not this one.
With hitscan bullets sniping is way too easy.
The assault rifles have a rediculously large cone of fire when ironsighted.

what I like:
well, unlike americas army, you can play the opfor.
No strafing while sprinting. Feels a little clumsy at first but makes sense.
The atmosphere is great.

In conclusion: definately going to play it some more, but it turned out as I predicted: been there, done that. there are practically features that haven't been done somewhere else. SO it is not the "one tactical shooter to end them all".

CQB is ruined by the iron sights being too close to the eye's. You can't see **** inside when you've got them up.

Change the mouse sensivity in options?

I installed it this morning and set up a LAN server just to move around. Going to test it online when I get back home.

Took me roughly 3 hours of playing to figure out what the hell was going on. Who the hell came up with the idea of no map??? Sure they give you a very rough and low detail map once you finish loading, but that's only for a few seconds... and half the time its the wrong map in the first place. Apparently they thought that everybody is just fine and dandy with having to memorize each map as they play it? Of course they (devs and testers) know the ups and downs of every single map, but people who just start the game are completely and utterly lost.

The only thing a player has to rely on for the slightest idea of what to do is his commander, and the sad thing is that 9 times outta 10 the commander doesn't know what the **** is going on either. Only twice out of my whole day of playing have I had a commander who knew what to do (set waypoints, give objective orders) and I gotta say it was really fun. So far my only big time gripe with this game is no map

Download finished this morning.

First impressions: Reminds me of the first time i played RO or at least how i felt about the game. Seems fairly polished overall. Few bugs and annoyances, the thing that annoys me most is clipping the tops of the walls when you fire over them. I dont think the iron sights are lined up correctly or something. The game is quite hungry regarding graphics and CPU cycles. I have a fairly capable system and it chugs down to about 25fps (but i play on high @ 1680x1050). The sounds are good but i hate the way the sound echo in the usual source fashion. Does not sound natural. The movement of the player models are terrible too. Anyway on to the good things. The weapon models are truly excellent, the maps are large and detailed with plenty of opportunity for some good firefights and lots of room for some good teamwork. Might be easier to organize a squad in clan play due to the tightness of the maps. I dunno how the squad system works but ive not attempted to test it yet. The interface is fairly polished as is the splash screen and very excellent music (you will turn it off as it plays in game). Also it only takes 1 or 2 shots to kill someone.

Overall its well worth a download and its going to get better with future releases but don't expect too much from it and you wont be disappointed. I remember all the hype about RO 2.0 and when i played it i was slightly disappointed, i forgot that it was only a mod. I gave it a little time and now i have been playing it religiously for over 3 years.

After the hail of feedback they receive from people playing it I'm sure that changes will be made to improve the mod. So yeah, give it time.

First time I log into a server....game is unplayable because some idiot on our team is sitting in the spawn TKing.

Second time I log onto a server...it crashes.

Not a good start :/

Third time, I log into a server and play for a bit, but FPS is so low in the main area of the fight, its unplayable. Then the server died. When it comes back up, I start off, capture an objective, and the first time I fire at the enemy, the game crashes so hard I have to use the reset button.

Also, Ive died numerous times, but not seen anyone, and have been cheated kills by the enourmous amount of sway. So far it's been an exercise in frustration, but I shall persevere.

Im gonna go find another server.

It seems that this game is currently unplayable. Why? Team killing. It's rampant on all servers Ive been on. You spend more time worry about whose going to shoot you in your back.

I had to listen to some prat on voice actually saying he was just TKing because he was bored. Someone told him to go do it in CS and he said "No, I respect CS". What a complete prick.

Whilst most aspects of the mod are nice I cant beleive they spent about 3 years on this mod only to miss out some fundamental features to help alleviate teamkilling.

tk's and the fact that everybody wants to be a US marine :(

just did a few rounds, teams were like 16 vs 6 but still they couldn't win ;)

I like the atmosphere, gameplay seems allright, don't have any problems with fps, maybe it was just this server but I hope other servers are well adminned and have some teambalance, if anyone can reccomend a good server please do ;)

Tried this online for the first time and it was horrible. Some US marines were spawn camping, we spawned again and again just to get killed by a proning marine behind us.

+Runs fine one my comp with full settings on 1680x1050
+Weapon models look great
-No sway in ironsights at all when moving
-Hipshooting recoil etc., RO has much better free-aim
-Prone movement speed

This mod looks good but is infested with tk'ers and lack of teamplay.
