The reviewer to me does not seem to be a very skilled gamer. This review is only realistic from an FPS beginner's perspective. Some of his complaints seem entirely counter to what the game is to me. I don't think the controls are clunky or "too complicated", if anything it might be a little too easy to move and shoot for the sake of immersion. I also don't think the animation is jerky at all, I think it is some of the best I've ever seen in a multiplayer game. Maybe it is newbie speak for "choppy frame rate"?

At first I thought I had read this review earlier but this is actually a new one where the reviewer claims to be familiar with realistic games and mentions Day of Defeat as an example...

I agree. I think RO2 has its share of problems but this review is obviously written by a 10 year old. Too many position possibilities? Is he really complaining about the ability to go prone? To be able to take cover? Idiotic.

The more possibilities there are, the more control you have, and the more realistic a game is. And fun, in my opinion.

And WTF is he talking about Day of Defeat being realistic???

Because of this reviewers obvious preference for the standard RnG arcade shooter, he wouldn't have like HOS even if it ran perfectly out of the box. And, to top it off, he didn't play it long enough to figure out how to play it effectively. He's pretty much the guy who plays if for an hour and "OMG! This isn't what I'm used to, I'm getting pwnd! This sux!" Really, if TDM was his favorite gamestyle and it's honestly a fail on HOS, then he really doesn't get it.

I can partially see where he's coming from here.

Not that they are necessarily "too complicated" but they do take a little time to learn.

I've played 35 hours, and I's still haven't gotten a single melee kill, as I hesitate too long when enemies get close and try to rebolt and shoot instead (and usually die)

My biggest complaint - however - is when you are surprised by someone who is shooting at you, so you try to drop to the ground behind something, hitting the prone button. to which you are greeted by "can not prone here" messages.

Sure, there is a brick or log or something on the ground that would not be comfortable to lay on, but hey, it's better than bullets. I'd throw myself on that crap in a hearbeat.

Then you die.

Another annoyance with the controls.

You run across the dangerous empty space that is being sniped by the enemy and finally get to the position in the cap zone you want to shoot from. You have gone prone in a space you like. It's protected and tough to see. The enemies come running, but there is something blocking your view, so you push the sideways button to move a little to get a better shot.

All of a sudden your character stands up to move, completely gives away your position, as well as leaving you unprotected. You get shot and die.

There are any number of these kind of issues with the controls that can make them frustrating. I hope these are the kind of things that TWI are working on tweaking and fixing, but I can definitely understand why a reviewer would call the controls clunky.

Another thing that can make the controls feel clunky to someone who is not used to the game is the amount of time it takes from a running position to bring your weapon up to eye level and take aim over the iron sights. This could have a CoD or BF moron feeling very handicapped. IMHO this is the way it should be - however - as it is more realistic. These people need to learn to change their playing styles if they want to be good at RO2.

I'm not normally one to jump on the "all reviews are BS and all reviewers are paid off cod noobs" train, mostly because its not really true.

HOWEVER, there are a few rules which automatically disqualify a review. One of them is so blatant it shouldn't even have to be mentioned - anytime a reviewer ADMITS IN THE REVIEW ITSELF that because he was bored with the game he resorted to trolling and/or griefing in the game itself, that signifies you are not dealing with an even moderately mature person, much less a true professional.

It reminds me of the G4 tv reviews of world war 2 online and red orchestra 1. In the world war 2 online review literally about half the footage is the reviewer shooting people ON HIS SIDE. The red orchestra review features him "accidentally" shooting friendlies, but uh, yeah, it wasn't an accident.

This game has a steeper learning curve than other shooters, you can't expect to jump in and rack up a ton of kills like in call of duty and battlefield, this turns off alot of players from RO, including the reviewer.

Can't even start to take the review seriously when he didn't even do his homework. Delayed kill notifications are a bug? Someone gave it two hours and decided they're going to call themselves an authority on it.

I never heard an official statement about this, but I always assumed they were intentionally delayed to make it more realistic, so you wouldn't instantly know if you got someone or not, and then just switch your focus.

Yeah, this reviewer seems like a 12 year old boy with ADHD who just wants to play CoD. I recommend he does just that, and leaves our game alone.

That was the point of Nenjin's comment... they aren't a bug, and the best servers don't even have kill notifications.

Didn't even bother reading the thread. Came across this review before. It is a terrible review. Anyone who can't see that needs their eyes checked.

This review is actually what convinced me to try this game out though; if you read between the lines, you can clearly tell that it is a well designed game burdened with numerous but minor bugs, being reviewed by an idiot who should stick to CoD.

From Ramm-"1) Death messages. Currently we have 3 death message settings, normal, delayed, and off. We'll probably add a couple more before release such as your own kills only, etc."

I was just thinking about the DOD comment in that 'review', and surely it had to be a joke. How in any way is DOD an "ultra-realistic military shooter"?

when he lists day of defeat as an ultra realistic shooter his credibility just went down the toilet.
