The maximum amount of zeds on map for 4-6 players isn't enough to make the smaller zeds a challenge in my experience. They often die before they can reach the players because their hp isn't significantly increased by player amount and the head hp stays the same.

Max should be raised and spawn groups made bigger so they attack players with increased numbers. FPs or scrakes shouldn't be the only reason for defeat.

The reason there's a spawn limit is performance, not gameplay.
Not everyone has a powerful modern gaming rig.

I'm not asking for much of an increase necessarily and the game has been around for a while now. I don't think a slight or even moderate increase would make the game slow down for most.

I only play on suicidal and I often don't use the ss unless absolutely necessary. I suppose your team often has trouble with small zeds then?

Chances are your team mates use the overpowered weapons though.

Either way, wait until the balance update until you decide whether it's tough or not. As it is I don't think small zeds are supposed to be amazingly dangerous, but together one slip up can cost you the game.

Perhaps having an additional 12/24/36 specimens as a server-side option then?
That could work. Still just increasing it for 4-6 players should work fine as well.

Btw the reason I'm posting this thread is because there could be a chance something like this could be included in the new version. It's easy to do, just changing some values is enough. If you like this idea and are a beta tester suggest this on the beta forum.

Not really. As 9_6 said, it could make the lower-end PCs struggle with KF.

The idea behind having it a server-side option was so that people can make it harder for those that can handle it, without making the PCs that can only run KF as it is now unable to play at all.

Tbh it could just be 32 is a nice balance. If you start upping it to 48 or 72 then waves are going to be over pretty quickly and realistically the only way to win against that number of specimens is to use perks focused more on killing large numbers of specimens. You'd just turn everyone into Firebug Flamethrower sweepers or AA12 Support Specs with maybe 1 SS and Zerker for Scrakes and FPs.

Isn't it possible to do this using Sandbox mode anyway? Can't you fire up a server with that if you and your friends want a challenge? I can only assume you wouldn't be interested in perk progression.

Of course if the increase is substantial it can happen but the increase doesn't have to be that great. Testing would be done to figure out a good amount. If even a small amount causes the game to become unplayable for someone it was already almost unplayable. But as I said server side probably works too.

You are right that sweepers become too important if you increase the amount a lot but we don't need to go that far. Though when you really think about it most perks are good at sweeping. One of the best being ss ironically enough.

You can indeed try it in sandbox and I have done so. It worked very well for the group I play with. I believe it would work well for normal servers too. We don't use sandbox often though because most of us want to level perks.

If too many ZEDs are allowed to spawn at once perk farming will be THROUGH THE ROOF on a certain map.

I agree. The game was released well over a year ago and the technology it is using is older as well. It isn't a mod of Crysis afterall. Don't get me wrong, I'm perfectly happy with the graphics. Adding additional specimens would do quite a bit to increase difficulty without dropping framerates to the low teens.
