The A-10 didn't enter service until 1977. No other aircraft uses or used the GAU-8 either. A-4s, A-7s, A-6s (no guns), F-4s (typically only with external gun pods), A-1s, F-105s, and F-5s would be logical choices.
The F-4E, F-105 and A-7 used the M61 20mm. The A-4 and F-5 used the MK12 20mm. The A-1 used M2 machineguns. The F-4C/D used the SUU-23/A gun pod typically. I am sure the B/J did as well.
AH-1s used mini guns (7.62x51 machineguns). Some of the jets above had gun pods with this machinegun as well.
I am really looking forward to seeing what aircraft and weapons we will be attacked with, if any.

It didn't use a Gau-8, but what about 'Spooky'? (three 7.62mm General Electric miniguns) Might sound similar.

7.62x51 won't sound anything like 30x173.
An AC-47 would be an interesting choice though. Strafing runs would be ideal because aircraft bombs have a large kill radius. It won't be fun if half of the map is flattened in a single bombing run.
Perhaps the AC-130A would be a nice edition as well.

Also I always liked what Vietcong did with their music and the theme song 'Pseudo Hendrix' which is good if you don't have deep pockets like EA had with BC2:V

Vietcong soundtrack was awesome. The proof that you can pass the same feeling as the original songs of the time, without necessarily using them... If there's someone good musicians at your team, you should try "DIY"!
But, that's my opinion, plus, you wouldn't need to care about copyright or stuff like that.
There's something i'd like to ask: If you're thinking about adding choppers and stuff, are you planning also semi-mobile AAA (like the DShK and KPV)???
Plus, I can't recall any vietnam game that represented the extensive use of branches and leafs by the NVA in their guns, that's a cool effect in a game....

Any plans to add the M50 Ontos to this mod? It's one of the only tanks I thought was fiction before I knew it was really used, and apparently it worked well in anti-infantry.
