It just didnt click with me.

the urban maps are unlikely , most of the island fighting had no such buildings/shacks other than airfields

The lack of flamethrowers was also dissapointing. the game needs fire propagation too.

As far as the kits go i have rarely seen any marines carrying around packs on their back like that , in the pacific you walked very light. the only time you would have kit like that is during a landing and you dropped it the second you hit the beach.

I wasn't expecting a video and I didn't really see anything I didn't like so I'm not really disappointed. The maps looked nice and big. First person view shots would have been nice though, couldn't really see recoil or sight movement, sway, movement bob etc.

The mod is a long way away though so dunno if its worth thinking about it in much detail yet

I liked the music, I'm hoping it's going to get the same amount of love the main game's soundtrack did.

I was a little surprised at the village too, but I'm not counting rivets.

Meanwhile, I'm already having nightmares about the amount of bush wookies there are going to be.

I wouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth on this one.. at least not too hard ;)
As a trailer, I'd say it was a bit underwhelming, but as a media release I'd say it's a winner.

Artistic merits aside, I think you ought to be aware that this is the first of many trailers we are going to put out - it is certainly premature to make judgements about game content on the basis of introductions to the environments of four of our maps.

let's face it, if we had all the things you are expecting to see in place right now (Flamethrowers, changed gear loadouts depending on situation etc.) we would release tomorrow and not next year.

Not sure anybody is making (negative) judgments on that, so far from just about every corner I've been listening from people seem to be happy with what they've seen so far.

Out of curiosity, who directed the trailer?

Directed is probably a gross exaggeration of my role but, for a first effort, it didn't turn out too bad.

Of course, it would have turned out a lot worse if I hadn't had certain members of the dev team telling me a few home truths about my early efforts. ;)

Forgive Nestor, he's been a little edgy lately about the content of criticism posts :p

I think the video, in terms of a media presentation, was decent. The pacing felt a little off at times because it was constantly going from slow-motion to natural and it didn't necessarily feel clean. I felt like a few shots lingered when they didn't need to. The jungle stuff, for example.

On the level of mod presentations, it was really good. I'm sorta judging it against the quality of RO2's media, and I guess that's probably not fair :p

Still, it synced well with the music, and the score got the hairs on the back of my neck standing up, which is ALWAYS a good sign.

Well, Id say for something you're doing on the side it's quite good. Ive tried directing trailers before and it's hellish.

On the topic of future trailers, I'm in (limited..) contact with Robert Stoneman. All the stuff I've seen from him is brilliant and he seems to enjoy working on it, even in his own time.

While he works in his spare time on occasion (last I heard anyways) it may be a "you get what you pay for" situation since he does do it for a living, so I guess I cant promise anything... but if you'd like I could point him your way anyways.

Heres his site/contact if you just want to look into it http://www.robertstoneman.com/

Opening was great, fantastic voice work, music and art. The matinee scenes were good but felt a bit abrupt or odd choices in places.

Although in comparison to media from the RO community including the RO2 trailers it has the most professional feel of them all :)

There was certainly a major discrepancy between the animated map and the combat scenes in terms of quality, but for a first effort it could be worse. I agree that you need a media director if you want to make the kinds of trailers and advertising that will draw people in, if you need any help I'd be happy to work on trailers etc, I have experience in those fields.

Okinawa had a large civilian population in some urbanised areas, don't forget that the Pacific theatre extends beyond island hopping. One of the screenshots in the media section is entitled Nhpum Ga, which pretty much confirms one of the maps as a Burma setting. I also hope to see Singapore and other land based urban maps which are so often left out of games and media and forgotten.

honestly its never "too soon" to give feedback , and this is one of the problems i see on this forum is that people are hesitant to say what they think for fear of being moderated (which happens often)

I think its great what you guys are doing and im extremely excited to see this mod come to life. but in its current state its just not really presentable imo.

Especially if that is the vegetation you are going to use....

I's assuming that village map is Saipan? Can't imagine it would be Kwajalein, Nhpum Ga, or Betio...

It is really early days for this mod, isn't the release date sometime late next year? If the release date is then, and they've already got this level of work done, then this mod looks amazing for a trailer released so early!

So what exactly is wrong with the vegetation. They're using subsurface scattering, sway in the wind etc... so the tech in them must not be the problem :p
