If you had no interest you wouldn't jump in every thread that is about them. And I am not the one who's fighting the windmill war against the evil consoles who take away games that should be on pc.

no we are fighting the war against consoles that take good games and make them utter crap. And the part where you said most of the features aren't even used? I bet I use more buttons before take off than the console IL2 will even include. Flaps, radiator, engine start, engine speed, prop pitch (check it sometimes), WEP, lock tail wheel, open canopy (if I can, Zeroes are literally flying crab traps to look out of), apply brakes, apply rudder where necessary. I don't understand what isn't used that IL2 has buttons for? Is it your mixture, landing lights, nav lights, interior lights, mirrors, fire extinguisher? Cause I use them all

I'll probably get it for my Xbox, regardless of how dumbed down it may be, if it's anything as good as IL2 for PC, it'll be great fun on my 37" TV.:D

Anyone get the demo? It's amazing! Graphics are beautiful, and the gameplay is flawless and doesn't stray from IL-2's past.

Three difficulty modes: Arcade (which is NOT arcadey, just less realism, enemy planes go down pretty easily though), Realistic (a good balance between arcade and full simulation), and Simulation, which has you controlling Flaps and other things that I don't care for, and stalls abound due to the accelleration of the 360's analog sticks. Ouch!

Three views are available: First person in-cockpit (the cockpits are modeled beautifully), Virtual Cockpit (basically regular cockpit with all the physical parts of it removed so it's like you're flying a glass plane), and Third Person.

First person mode can look all around by clicking the right stick and moving it.

My only gripe is that the controls are ****ing idiotic. Obviously it's meant to be played with a flight stick, but come on. I'll be getting the Ace Combat flight stick for this game, since it's compatible, but they've got the pitch and turn mapped to the LEFT analog stick, and Yaw and throttle mapped to the right stick. It's ridiculous why they would do this. If you're right handed, good luck making fine maneuvers to get that target in your sights. It's *** backwards from every other game, so I find myself moving the right stick to turn and then find myself plummeting because I've backed my throttle off all the way. So aggravating.

What's worse? You can't change it in the options. You have one option to change controls to "simulation" mode, but all that does is make X your Flaps, and B....something else. You cannot reverse the sticks. Also, good luck if you need to yaw your way back in-line with a target, because if you're zooming/leaning in with X, and shooting with the right trigger, you've got to move your left hand off the left stick and over to the right stick to be able to work the yaw. *forehead slap* This cripples the game, if you ask me. Hopefully in the full game you can adjust that. But, like I said, I'll be getting a flight stick so it won't be an issue.

Demo comes with three training missions, and three varied campaign missions. One takes place at the White Cliffs of Dover, flying a Spitfire and shooting down German bombers and Stuka's. The second has you flying a P-51 Mustang in the Battle of the Bulge bombing artillery targets and tanks. The third...well I haven't gotten to it yet because the demo does not save your progress so each time you load it up you have to start at the first campaign mission and beat it, then the second, etc. Kind of a pain.

Anyway, game looks and plays awesome. It's going to be a day one purchase for me. Bring on September!

Well I'm not exactly a console expert but don't you always control the movement with the left stick. Like in any racing, sports or whatever game? Would be kind of annoying to most to change that, but yes, it should be in the options for you to map.

Really annoying that this seems to make it to release within what feels like a year since the initial announcment yet no SoW anywhere on the horizon.

You could also get the Ace Combat flight stick that has a separate throttle and is really nice.

It is already on PC with much more content in the form on IL-2 1946...
Wrong....How many times do people need to be told this? Birds of Prey is an entirely NEW Console only IL-2 game from Maddox. It's not content from IL-2 1946 ported. It's brand new and won't be coming to PC.

Either way, it won't do anything that 1946 doesn't aside from having more updated graphics. I doubt they redid everything from scratch to.

I personally think it is cool that consoles are getting another flight game. I don't own any consoles aside from a PS2 and dead N64, but I bought all flight combat games for the PS2 aside from Lethal Skies 2 (might pick it up one of these days) and the Energy Airforce series (wasn't released in the USA).

It might not be as detailed as the PC version, but it is better than nothing.

So far, the only combat games for the current consoles were Ace Combat 6, HAWX, and Over G Fighters.

Technically, there was Blazing Angels 1/2, but that was so bad I hardly count it.

I just wish Ace Combat 6 would come out for PC. :( I don't feel like spending $350 or so and then $50 to play online just for one game. I am a huge Ace Combat 4/5/Z fan, and I really want 6.

As much as I've understood Birds of Prey is not made by Maddox. Gaijin entertainment is responsible for PS3 and Xbox versions while PSP and DS versions are made by diffrent companies aswell.

Pretty much explains several rants I've heard about the demo even with simulation difficulty (airframes not breaking after exceeding 1000km\h+ speeds and redouts were impossible to replicate) from few persons I know.

Still would be great if there was a PC port. We are starving over here. Even if it was a straight port, for 40 bucks or so I'd buy it.

While I have not played Birds of Prey demo myself (I don't own 360), based on few persons I know and I even gave the other guy a list of things to try out on simulation difficulty and here's what I got as an answer:

1. Redouts and blackouts were almost impossible to replicate or even the borderline effects before they occur regardless how much one tried.
2. You could dive with Spitfire to speeds exceeding 1000km\h+ and nothing really happened, no signs of breaking airframe\parts getting ripped off before hitting the ground.
3. You could almost climb 90 degrees vertically in air for quite a time before you actually stalled.

Considering that it's not made by Maddox games itself, I have a guess it's just plain arcade shootout for consoles riding with the name and 'success' of IL-2 Sturmovik. Alternatively the demo's simulation difficulty is just unfinished or buggy.

If someone else has more accurate info that can be actually confirmed properly, feel free to correct those statements but since I got same confirmation from three persons it doesn't really sound that promising.

In the flight sim area, we've recently had DCS: Blackshark released, Rise of Flight (WWI), and Strike Fighters 2/Wings Over Europe 2 released. And FSX is pretty recent as well.

As for arcadey games, we've had HAWX.

While we aren't flooded with flight sims, we do have a decent variety.

But yes, I wouldn't mind if BoP was released, even if it was arcadey. I still need 1946 though. 1946 comes with Pacific Fighters, correct?

I like how all the people saying the game isn't realistic enough or that it sucks because your plane doesn't break apart haven't even played it! ROFL

I don't recall claiming directly not realistic enough or that it sucks. Sure I have not played it myself but I still won't judge the game by it's own merits (which would be impossible also).

However, if one hears from three persons (two of which owns IL-2 1946 on PC) complainments about this and that on simulation difficulty and lack of some of the most obvious features (or inability to notice them), where does that leave us?

Sure it would be far more contributing if I would have access to the demo and try it out myself than just say out things that you've heard yourself. After all, the game could be (note the evil word 'could') the best game evar.
