the il2 4.08m hack appearantly allows to add new planes and cockpits too. i had a look ealier this week. i suppose they are using the Mk.V cockpit as an ad-hoc solution.
i flew the Bf110B-4 and it seemed like they actually made a new reargunner "cockpit" ;o

my question is, am i able to fly on any online server with the new planes or do I have to find a server that allows them?

skies of valor allows it afaik, the other server prolly too: http://www.skiesoffire.org/index.php

its rather acade though with external view and icons and pretty short distances to fly.

its great fun though if you are looking for some quick kills :) i am usually flying as "Imp" btw

ok flyboys, I have been searching for a newer (post 2005) WWII flight sim/combat game for the PC. I know the Il-2 is what this thread is foucused on but I want more of an "arcade-style" dogfight game that you don't need a pilot's license to actually be decent at the game.

I own Il-2 and played for a few months but found it too difficult and time consuming with a retardedly steep learning curve.

Pacific theatre or Europe, I don't care. Everything I have found seems to be so old. Any suggestions???

An older game, a bit more arcady is Crimson Skies. Not WWII, more based on the fact that the US split up during the great depression and there are all kinds of cool aircraft and aircraft carrying zepplins.

That, and IL-2 are the only two aircraft games I have had installed on my PC. Can't really tell you about anything new, I don't know.

I actually find IL2 flying easier than say BF2 or FH2 flying - Of course thats once I've learned how to fly IL2 - but, its just so much easier.

There is Secret Weapons over Normandy. It's like Crimson Skies with historical planes and in WW2. It got quiet acceptable scores back when it came out (2003) but personally, it's way to arcade for my taste. Maybe you should try the demo.

i cant comment on either bf2 or fh2 but arma is alot harder to fly in than lomac, for me anyway. not the basic flying nessesarily but strafing runs and precise ordianance deployment are alot less accurate :/

and I use mouselook because I have a small budget. for a while my Cyborg Evo's hat switch would stay in the position I moved it to, which was very handy, but since a recent reformat it's stopped doing that and has become useless. :(

F9? Some F button keeps it where you want it - I think.

92 Squadron, May 1940, over Dunkirk. GR-P is (possibly) the plane in which Robert Stanford Tuck got 5 kills in 24 hours, including his first kill. 3 were fighters (110's, I think) and 2 were bombers (Do17's iirc).
