well i know what you mean, slavek.
i tested this and announced RO2 on a 50 ppl server twice.
there were feedbacks, but not a single negative.
apparentyl many ppl dont know that there will be a sequel

someone said that RO has 100 - 200 players who play regularly.
when i look at the steam statistics there is an other amount of players.
ok, the best time is over - but RO (DH too, about 300 each day) with around 700 is still popular.

i can just repeat when i say: RO is the first and only game that still grabs my attention. in a certain way its unique, fack teh rest :D

Why so much hate for one another? Especially since RO and DH are essentially the same game? RO forumites think of DH players what DH forumites think of RO players.

It's not entirely limited to DH community, but it's also odd side-effect I've noted (it may or may not reflect current situation) in the past that DH tends to gravitate more of those 'odd types' which are comparable to re-enactors who take their impression bit too seriously.

I don't really think there is genuine hate in real sense of the word in both communities, but as with that one "Why play RO when we have DH?" thread in RO:Ost forums discussing the whole subject is also problematic. Whether the persons were trolling is one question, but even poor troll can once in a while generate some lulz.

It's a little bit of both I guess. But like mentioned, people just don't have the interest to read the forums. It's a shame that people would still believe that there is no thing as RO:HOS but that's their loss.

Doesn't always have to be ignorance, it's just that they are uninformed since they just do not have the interest to check out the forums. Like mentioned several times in the thread. But I must agree that it is a shame that they do not know or want to know. But that's their loss.

It's reality nothing else. This count for more games. Players who join a game community forum are active players who follow the game and its sequels. How many users are active at the RO and HOS forums ? 100? 200 ?

As i read they sold 400.000 copies of RO there is a chance you bump into someone who doesn't know anything about a new game or mods or whatever. They simply want to play a game and thats it. They don't care about which side the headlight has to be on a T34. And they don't have want to know if the IS2 was the best tank of WW2. They never visits forums and just want to play the game........ Its not ignorance they just don't care and have other interests.

While playing RO i have seen so many playernames which i never seen on these boards.
This shows there is a huge market and world of players next to these boards.

That is completely different from each individual, i know plenty of fans of simulators such as IL2 sturmovik , DCS. They don't hang much online at all, not involved in the community, but oh boy do they care about realism and authenticity.

What you just said is more true of the Cod , Bf community which are mainstream games.

Yeah so lots of these individuals who play RO,IL2 do care about realism and don't get involved in a community. While another maybe even larger amount of people play the same game and don't care at all. Otherwise i can't have an explanation for these 400.000 sold copies and the size of this community.
Same I can reply on Fedorov. The fact he doesn't play with his forum name
won't tell me all others do....
All i wanted to explain is that there is al large amount of players who don't care or maybe they do but not enough to make them heard outside this community.

And yes we know by now that the IS2 is the best WW2 tank....

Well, on the other hand I suppose there are some people like me who rarely post anything but keep on checking the forums 3-4 times a day (those small orange boxes have become an obsession :p ).

When HEROES does release, it'll be one happy family again.....the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Hey, remember Aunt Janie, she's got one-finger and a wart you can't miss, and she never seems to either. :p

The real reason he probably doesn't participate here is because many people would probably make comments about his affiliation with an SS realism unit, and in particular the 12.SS, which has been known to be a little too into their portrayal. The RO realism unit rules describe that a disclaimer be provided if your unit is controversial, instead they try to ignore it or blame it on "disinformation".

This is rather interesting:

Unfortunately our RO brothers have sold out to the COD4 style game play. I believe DHers are the true bearers of the flame.

Why would we want to HELP a game (the competition persay), so that its able to compete with DH?

I hope they screw up, and keep the tanks out, keeping DH THE main tank game in town.

Wow..posting that on the DH forums...tisk tisk...disrespectful

You know, I never liked DH. It was unpolished and rather boring. I appreciate the work the modders put into it though, they're to be commended for sticking around long enough to complete their vision. And yet, the community that's attached itself to DH is simply an astounding mix of arrogance and anger. I never actually looked upon DH with hatred nor did I see RO in some kind of competition with DH. I'm frankly surprised at the vehemence and hatred there is for this forum and RO.

Especially when considering tanks. Tanks are of course going to be in RO:HoS. No one ever said they absolutely hated tanks. I love combined arms maps. And I hope that there will be more great CA maps in RO:HoS. But tanking for its own sake is rather dull (despite my love of tanks) in RO. The fact that DH, or at least its fanbase, sees itself as a "tanking game" is rather disconcerting to say the least. They must not have very high standards if DH is "the tanking game in town." At least in RO, Soviet and German tanks are of comparable power rather than the King Tiger vs. Sherman M4A1 that DH tends to be. DH is the tanking game of choice for the Waffen SS clans.

That being said, RO started as an infantry game and that's what it is at its core. Those of us that followed the mod from its beginning to its retail release are the ones carrying "the flame" not the hangers on of a mod about a cliched and tired theater of the war.

As a regular DH player, I can tell you that the DH forum does not represent the majority of the DH fanbase. I can also tell you that, as with all types of communities, there are always a few bad apples. The post Chang quoted was pretty stupid, I agree. But there are many intelligent discussions to be found on the DH forums as well.

And not in an attempt to instigate anything, but in my own experience in game, DH players tend to provide a much more enjoyable gaming experience for me than RO players. I rarely play RO anymore simply for the reason that many players are either griefers, don't know how to play the game, or are completely uncooperative in any aspect of the game.

This only serves to show that generalizing the type of people that play RO and DH is pointless, because everyone individual has their own differing view.

On an unrelated note, NEW TANK SMILEY! :IS2:

I hope they screw up, and keep the tanks out, keeping DH THE main tank game in town.

the prime example of ignorance......erm, yeah how exactly is a mod competing against its "mother" game? in order to install DH, people still had to BUY RO. therefore, when DH "gains" RO gains just as equally.

i think the point being made regarding many DH players being ignorant of anything that has to do with ROHOS, is the result of them buying ROOST just to play DH in the first place. many never even played a minute of RO, never visited the game's forums, and worst of all never even attempted to get connected with the main community. they instead got sucked into just one small sub-community and are for the most part completely aloof to any real RO news regarding the future of the franchise game.

like others have noted, from my "experiments" of mentioning ROHOS info in DH servers and seeing the complete ignorance in the majority of the replies i've received, as well as just observing the the DH forums/community, i'd venture to say the large majority of currently active players fall into the previously described category of players. this imo confirms the previously stated generalization that a large portion of active DH players are completely ignorant of anything that's happening regarding ROHOS.

in a similar note, (and just to confirm this thread has officially been invaded) DH could NEVER be the main tank game in town due to the fact that it's lacking one essential component.....

the GREATEST tank of WWII :IS2:
