Found out the reason why it can't run

Found out the reason why it can't run

Howdy everyone, i had the exaaaact same problem as all of you, and even went through all these stages to try to improve it, everything from changing .ini files to downloading updates etc.

But if you go into the UnrealEngine3 folder -> ROGame -> Logs you find a lot of .dmp and .log files (well, depends on how many times you've tried to start the game), open one of the log files and in there i found out the reason, at the bottom of all of these .log files, for each time i've tried to start the game, and it explained the reason, in my case;
"This game requires at least Shader Model 3.0" = i need to get a new graphic card.

This may not be the same reason why your game won't start, but you might find out why it isnt starting in there.

I'm in the same situation as many others. Yesteday I could run the beta just fine, after the update nothing works. I get the splash screen, then the 'ROgame.exe has stopped working" error. I've gone through all the steps quoted below, and in addition I've refreshed all my Steam files. I even deleted local content and reinstalled. Nothing worked. I tried to validate my Steam cache, and it failed. It said that one file didn't validate (there was only one being checked) and that it would reacquire...only it hasn't for some reason.

Looking at the log, I see something going one with Core.u:

I hope someone can help...what I saw for an hour or two really makes me want more RO2...

My specs:
W7 64 bit pro SP1, i7 920 at @2.67, EVGA x58 MB, 12GB RAM, EVGA GTX-460SE 1GB

1. First thing to try is to run the UE3 redist:

steam\steamapps\common\redorchestra2beta\binaries\windows

install both the punkbuster package & ue3redist

2. after installing that try if the game gets into the menu if it doesn't

go to

steam\steamapps\common\redorchestra2beta\binaries\win32\ROGame.exe

run that exe, and check if a error pops up that you're missing some file. If you are missing anything either post it here, or simply google the file yourself and try to get it. You should get a message that steam is not running that is normal ;).

3. try to launch the game with a -nosound tag, it could be that your soundcard is borking things up.

For instance installing the latest version of directx from microsoft can fix stuff.

Those of you with W7, do you have SP1 installed?

In "my" thread someone said that a friend of his has/had the same problem without SP1

Omg found a solution how I can at least run the game:

Started the game under Win95 compability mode and viola I'm in the main menu Oo.

/edit Can even play the game, but it's very slow and lags all the time.

Yep, compabilty mode works for me aswell, with the aforementioned performance issues.

*EDIT* the "best" you can get is Windows 98/ME

Isn't there anyone with at least a bit of an idea what might cause these troubles?
I ran the game in Win98/Me Mode and it kinda worked, but it's way too laggy to play it. Though I liked what I saw.

There must be some essential part I'm missing here. Gonna try and reinstall Win7 right now, hope that solves the problem. Back in a few hours.

Oh and by the way, my apologies to all the Austrian RO players as our national team will win tonight :) .

Helmchen, did you have to completely uninstall windows or did you run a repair.
I've only just installed W7 on this machine, and that seems strange to me that I'd have to start over.

Hey guys.
Got a problem, I have the Deluxe edition of RO2 but I cannot get this thing to start for the life of me. At first when i first tried it nothing happened, then I fixed a bunch of errors that i found using the program i have system mechanic, from that point all i got was the splash screen.

Heres what I have done:

Defragged my hd
defrag Ro2
verified integrity of game
updated my graphics drivers
deleted the client registry blob
tried the -nosound command on startup
installed both the files in the binaries
reinstalled the entire game
and nothing, nothing works!

When i click on the shortcut, the game loads, in a few sec or so I get the splash screen and the thing on the task bar about unreal engine 3, thats it, its stops there. I go to task manager and it says ROgame is not responding.

IDK but i followed this thread

Nothing works.
I guess I'll have to wait til they actually release the game, and Im not the only one with this problem. Funny thing is i can play any game.

Heres my computer specs:

OS -Winxp 32bit Home edition
CPU - AMD Single core
icon_rolleyes.gif
2.6 ya I know its slow but Im maxed out for my motherboard.
GPU- Nvidia Geforce GTX 285
2 gigs of ramm
PSU-750watt
Directx 9c

recently I had updated my graphics drivers, and still nothing, checked the logs in ROgame under docs and settings, that dont tell me nothing, unless you guys would like to look at it here it is below:
Code:

Lastly tried running as adminstrator, that dont do nothing, and even tried a compatability version mode using all of the options, still nothing.

Basically game gets to splash screen and stops,a nd then when i check the taskmanager it says ROgame is not responding.

Dont know what else to do.

Many others have the same/similar problem, so I hope the coders are working on this. As of yet, no certain fix yet.

Yes I did, I even rechecked, I ran it in 98/ME at first(It loaded like twice as long), now tried 95, steam froze and refuses to launch the game. 2k and NT gave no difference at all.( compared to no compatibility mode )
