this is this a post to get some talk about how a medic class could be implemented.

my ideas are,

spawns with a pistol, 5 medkits, 5 spare bandages.

medkits can be used to save people in slow death it wouls leave them with half health and some sort of physical movement or aiming difficulty.
this may not work in all cases of slow death sometime they may be to far gone.

Spare bandages can be given to other players to replace used ones (medics would be the only class that could takes unused bandages from the dead)

Now i know that this may not work but its just an idea, its not the most realistic thing but it would make team Co op payoff more.

THINGS TO NOTE: for bandage resupplying to be of much use i think the bandges would need to restore 25%(?) health

so lets say you get shot, you are bleeding out you bandage so you only lose 25% of your health, you then use the other one to get back to full. A medic could then give you another bandage(max use of 3 per life).

it would also be good if 25% health was the most you could get back. so if you are ssaved in slow death and them given a kit you could get back to 75% at most.

Also slow death would need to work abit different so you have time to run aup and save them.

i think that you would have 6 medics on a 64 player sever, so 3 per team.

Plese dont bash this i want to here what you guys think, how would you do it, would you even want it.

Agian its not super realistic but i think it would increase team work.

Implementing medics will just not happen. At least I have understood so from Wilsonams post in some earlier thread. So this kind of discussion is -no offence - just waste of time.

Okay lets hear it.
my ideas are,

LETS HEAR IT!

spawns with a pistol, 5 medkits, 5 spare bandages.

Real life medics back then wanted to look as little like medics as possible, so a pistol is possible but maybe a rifle or SMG, like the engineer class.

medkits can be used to save people in slow death it wouls leave them with half health and some sort of physical movement or aiming difficulty.

Sounds pretty good to me :IS2:

Spare bandages can be given to other players to replace used ones (medics would be the only class that could takes unused bandages from the dead)

Good idea but anybody should be able to take bandages from dead guys, I mean seriously you don't have to be a doctor to rouse someones pockets.

Now i know that this may not work but its just an idea, its not the most realistic thing but it would make team Co op payoff more.

Maybe....

THINGS TO NOTE: for bandage resupplying to be of much use i think the bandges would need to restore 25%(?) health

It would depend on where its applied.

so lets say you get shot, you are bleeding out you bandage so you only lose 25% of your health, you then use the other one to get back to full. A medic could then give you another bandage(max use of 3 per life).

There shouldn't be a "limit", it should just have to do with how much blood you've lost.

it would also be good if 25% health was the most you could get back. so if you are ssaved in slow death and them given a kit you could get back to 75% at most.

That makes sense.

Also slow death would need to work abit different so you have time to run aup and save them.

I like this idea.

No it should be 1 or 2 per team.

Plese dont bash this i want to here what you guys think, how would you do it, would you even want it.

GO :IS2: YOURSELF THIS IDEA SUKZ!

Agian its not super realistic but i think it would increase team work.

Well with my suggestions it is a bit realistic.

In that game-mode where you have only one life a medic would make sence.

But a medic shouldnt heal you completly, just a litle bit, the aiming should be still shaking.

i still would say spawn with a pistol, grab another gun later.
the reason i would have them being the only one that can take bandages is to give them more to do. as for a limit i think would would be dead before you needed more than 3, i guess you could make it that the need to be replaced or they lose affect.

but thanks for the serious imput, :)

Very true, ive heard medics where one of the first designated targets behind officers & artillery observers in Stalingrad. In this case most medics, both German and Russian removed their geneva convention Red Arm Bands and helmet decals so as to not stand out. As such no aesthetic differences need to be made to the standard soldier only new pouches and such to make a medic model feasable.

If its any consolation I always enjoyed playing as the Medic in BF2, BF Bad company, same sort of satisfaction from resupplying an Mg gunner in RO or AT Gunner in RO: Darkest Hour.

Also another thing I forgot to mention is when you say give them "5 medpacks", I think in real life a medic would just carry one big kit of stuff that they need to heal people, some of the contents of that medpack are reusable like scalpels, some things would run out like bandages or morphine.

Honestly I think there should be different kinds of healing, like bandages stop bleeding, but morphine makes your arm/leg reusable again. Even if they don't implement medics in this game they should have morphine for the different effect.

Also I don't think they should carry pistols
like jalex said, they should carry a rifle or SMG to look as much like a regular soldier as possible, and the oly thing that should set them apart visually is their medkit. Maybe they'll get less ammo to compensate.

i only use medpacks as another way of saying limited supply. i like your idea, so using things would be abit more like am3? so you pick what to use or it auto selects what is needed?

No healing. A medic's job isn't to return you to health, it is to stop you from dying long enough to get you to a hospital of some sort. There weren't really many medics on the eastern front anyway, and it would be unrealistic from a gameplay perspective as well.

I actually think a medic, and I mean 'A' as in one medic per team would be a nice addition. I love seeing soldiers scurrying about from cover to cover to resupply an Mg gunner in need, I would similarily like to see medics scurrying from cover to cover to resupply soldiers with more bandages / morphine? Maybe the medic could equipt a bandage whereby it would allow a soldier to approach him and press 'G' to take the bandage from him.

P.s Here's a quote from www.Germaniainternational.com

"Probably the most dangerous duty in the Wehrmacht, especially the infantry, was being a medical orderly, especially on the eastern front as the Russian snipers were delighted to have one of these people in their crosshairs because killing one of these brave men would ostensibly deprive wounded soldiers of any chance of combat survival"

Thus concludes, having medics in Ro2 is about as realisitic as having Snipers or Machine Gunners. What im saying is they, medics where clearly around on the eastern front so why is it "not" realistic to include them? I say include them no matter how hard it is to implement them. If a lowly game such as BF2 or Call of duty 3 can include Medics I dont see why an ultra-realisitic title such as Red Orchestra can't.

Further information on the German Sanitater:

Source - http://www.panzergrenadier.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=399&start=0

'Looking at some of the German military ideologies, I'd say that they were soldiers first, and medics second - this is certainly the case for other support branches of the Wehrmacht (pioneers, Feldgendarmerie, veterninary, pay, cooks etc.). One of the other curious ideologies is that medics were not there to save lives, they were to enable the injured soldier to become an effective fighter again (in the same way that concrete bunkers were not to protect the occupants, it was to allow the occupants to fight more effectively). However, I would suspect that there was a strong conflict between this ideology and the Hippocratic Oath taken by the tranined physicians and surgeons'

'Arming of medics is dependant on the theatre of operations (no pun intended) - I have seen plenty of pictures of armed Heer medics, but predominantly on the Eastern front.'

'Yes I agree, it certainly is dependant upon the theatre of operations, and I agree we see alot more armed Heer Medics on the eastern front.'

once you need a medic, youre out of action anyway..
Not at all, i.e a mere bullet wound of which is not critical (i.e artery) but could easily become infectious would need a medics attention in order to save the soldiers life but that dosent mean he's out of action. After attention hes back in action again, not all soldiers needed to be taken to a field station behind the front lines.

What say your under heavy attack with no possible chance of retreat, I think the priority there would be to fix you up so that you could continue fighting again, not matter what the severity of the soldiers injury i.e Leg blown off/ Arm.

very well put......and that is why this game will never have medics :)

This is how Medic should work

-

There needs to be a disadvantage. A thing that puts people off playing as a Medic. Why? Because the people who REALLY do well as a medic...that get the most enjoyment out of being a medic. Are the ones that really care about playing that role.

Disadvantages?

Less ammo?
Can't carry heavier weapons?

-

Before anyone says this is unfair or unbalanced. Medic is a team play role. Medics on both sides, russians a germans. will be equal. So it is balanced. Another reason NOT to have any sort of stat tracking though.

-

How it should work?

1) when you heal someone, a synched animation happens. Lasts about 5-10 seconds? could be anything but I suggest NOT making it an injection. Thats overdone. Just applying pressure or applying a bandage which sticks on the character would be best.

2) Why this way? it looks cool...and it requires you to be in cover and out of action.

3) A medic should only be able to stabilize you...or treat unusual injuries that "Debuff" your character. for example. If you've been shot in the leg you should limp or move slower =p A medic should be able to make you feel a little better...emphasis on "little".

Yes they wouldn't give some sort of unfair advantage, its like peoplesaying that a machine gunner will shred through dozens of enemies or an AT guy will obliterated any tank in sight....

yup, but its ONLY going to work if you don't have any sort of stat tracking.

Prepare for whining on forums when theres stat tracking. Because it means EVERYBODY loses at some point or other. Every death may be a "Bull-hit" death.

I don't agree with stats, the game is about realism, will giving cover mean reducing your accuracy score? What if there was a map where a team needed to assault will everyone hold back because of fear of dying?
