What do you want to do? Try it in Crysis? It's currently not implemented in RO2.

For Crysis, I would suggest to use "r_width 3360" and "r_height 2100" in the console and see how your computer handles the load.

Today I was fiddling around with the "UpscaleScreenPercentage" and "ScreenPercentage" settings to see if I could achieve Downsampling with them. In short, you can't, "ScreenPercentage" won't go above 100.

Also, I found that "UpscaleScreenPercentage=True" is totally broken.
"UpscaleScreenPercentage=True" & "Screenpercentage=50.000000" resulted in this:

"UpscaleScreenPercentage=False" & "Screenpercentage=50.000000" works as intended:

I did this with the "tiledshot" console command to visualise what downsampling could bring to RO2.

That does look good, but did you really have to TRIPLE the resolution? You should try and get some results with 1.5x res or so, for players who don't have super-rigs but want some better aliasing.

Edit: so this isn't actually a success, just a demo. I see.

Yes, it was just a example of what downsampling could look like, maybe I will add some comparison shots with lower factors and also some shots with FXAA/MLAA.

New to this! I have a Alienware laptop with 2 video cards. They are GTX 675's and I have an I7-2860 processor with 16GB of ram. What and how in detail can I set up my video drivers in Ro2 to the max? Thanks for the help in advance! Jeff

I'm bringing this back up again, I think Rising Storm with all its vegetation would greatly benfit from SSAA to calm the picture. PostprocessAA like FXAA or MLAA does nothing in that regard.

Riddick: SSAA vs MSAA

Check out this video of to see what SSAA can do in regard to flickering opposed to MSAA, let alone FX- or MLAA which are tentimes worse then MSAA.

Please use 1080p and fullscreen, look at the roof on the top left and the runway in the middle.

Dishonored SSAA vs MLAA

Here's a comparison between MLAA and SSAA in Dishonored, skip to 6m45s for a side by side comparison. Check the stairs and the gate in the background. Again, 1080p + fullscreen, you don't play your games in a tiny window and with 640*480, do you?

I'm having an issue where

UpScaleScreenPercentage=True

and

ScreenPercentage=100.000000

If I set ScreenPercentage=50.000000 it just sets 1/4 of the image showing only in the bottom right of the screen.

Other Unreal Engine games scale the full image at 50% of "Ultra Low" so I get 30fps+ on my HD 4250...

How can I get it to properly scale 50.000000 to the whole screen?

THANKS

I came back for a few rounds of RO2 and had to notice that RO2 still doesn't feature downsampling as a AA solution besides the blurring PostAA implementations.

Pleeeaaasee TWI, look into implementing it ;)

P.S. I know there are now tools like Gedosato and NVidia & AMD provide their DSR (Dynamic Super Resolution)/VSR (Virtual Super Resolution) features in their drivers for some cards..
BUT I don't want to use Gedosato because of Punkbuster/VAC, I don't own a NVidia card and my AMD card doesn't support VSR. :(

Downsampling? Thats basically lowering your resolution............

Not really. In case of downsampling the point of start is an image with an X times higher resolution than the final target resolution. Thus the startpoint is actually an oversampled image of the final target.

So then its basically a compresssed oversampled image?
Meh

Nope. Because the engine will create an image of X times the target resolution. Then the downsampling will process it to fit the final targets resolution. That downsampling is not the same as compressing. Compressing would mean leaving out pixels, while downsampling looks at a cluster of pixels and decide what the best way would be to reduce the resolution with as less as possible loss in detail and sharpness and without creating edged lines.
